I got a imbel that was a ban era. Got it for 800.

I don't know if this is relevant for US imports, but civilian ownership of self loading centre fire rifles was banned in the UK in 1987 (Hungerford massacre), also fun fact, there is a factory Lithgow single shot version of the L1A1 that has no mag well, by memory less than 200 ever made, and and even rarer factory Lithgow straight pull bolt action magazine fed version, less than 10 made - I have held both examples

Bought one of these from Simpson's. It's built on an early Entreprise forged receiver with an all-British parts kit, including the barrel.

Cool beans. Who was the original mfgr?

Reminds me of the Lithgow FAL's. They were the holy grail of imports back in the day.
@misha567027 күн бұрын
Yep, sure were; especially the true 100% factory Lithgow complete rifles marked L1A1A. Only thing? the wood on those was always a bit too commercial for my tastes. I like the earlier more military looking stuff. The L1A1A wood is too good looking for me lol.

I bought a surplus Australian army version over here in the late 80s for less than $1000

Years ago, there was a gentleman on youtube that reviewed his Australian L1A1 i believe. It had beautiful reddish brown wood. Similar to the FAL sniper that Robski had on vintage rifle shooters club. Beautiful rifle. Aussie is my favorite variant
@misha567027 күн бұрын
Lithgow had a few different wood colours and patterns. I've had Aussies before, and while I dstill have the HBAR L2A1, one day I wouldn't mind getting another Lithgow L1A1 to. Really though, Canadian C1A1 is what I want again. One of the few guns I actually regret having to sell but back then, there was a pressing need for cash and priorities ya know?

@@misha5670 I don't believe so. Remember what Dave's S/N started with? Mine is G5XX.

I have an Israeli Fn FALO Hvy Barrel metric rifle built on an EMBEL(Brazil) upper receiver w/Israeli(hebrew) lower assembly that I bought in 2011! Since then, I have replaced all non-Israeli parts with genuine ZAHAL Israeli parts minus the receiver and the DSA "fire control group"! She's nearly all "IZZY" now finally! It's been a learning experience, a history lesson and a "labor of love"! Another fine example of the "Right Arm of the Free World"! Support the "Second Amendment"!!!

Mish every time I clear a gun in low light or not I prefer to put my pinky over the hole (lol) to make sure it’s clear. I got it from you cheers

Its kind of my only option and its a good one. I mean which is worse? Having an AD/ND go off? or getting your finger mashed by a bolt unexpectedly snapping forward? I know which risk I am willing to live with, which I am out, cheers.

Were does one find replacement part's for the FAL?

DSA Arms or Apex or Arizona Response.
@misha567027 күн бұрын
@@ajw7469 Yep, if you need anything metric, DSA is a very good best bet. If you need inch pattern, ARS is probably a better go-to. When I needed a carry handle for an Aussie build, he had several variants on offer. He's also the one who educated me on black vs green vs brown coloured inch handles. That was 20+ years ago and I listened and still remember.

IMO, a FAL collection at least needs a solid inch pattern, as well as an Israeli and some type of metric like say Imbel or FMAP.
