I'm a huge fan of Bergens! I've had one for several years that is used as a long range patrol pack. I use my med Alice for shorter times out. Good video!

i hadda pair of Altima jungle boots & one day i jumped the last 4 feet out of my treestand & started walking,,, BUT something didn't feel right,, i looked down & the WHOLE sole had come COMPLETELY off my right boot,, That duk tape that i carried in my pack & the orange flag tape sure came in handy that day. 👍🤣🙃😂😉👍

They are a great bag. I have the long back one. Its the same capacity(120 ltr) as far as I know, yours is just a bit shorter and wider. Also if you have a look online, they make a yoke so you can zip off the side pouches and attach them to the yoke to make a 20ltr day sack. Regards JB.

You cant beat the PLCE bergen. I was issued the OD and DPM ones, ive been out since 2001 and just purchased the MTP one. Il be using all three for different camp outs.

Nice find there Austin.you got hold off the one with the ditch buckle same as the alice pack.so you can dump the Bergan if you get into a contact..was only a limited amount of them made..

You will be suprised if you do a long long distance tab with the kidney strap done up you will notice how it eases the weight off your sholders.

Good video. I have never run with the British Bergen but I do use a Snugpac Rocket pack that is very similar and I have used it working out. It is also my get home bag. In the winter I can just zip the two large side pockets on with extra winter gear.

Speaking of boots i brought a pair of Rocky C4T trainers a few year's back & they lasted almost 5 years with zero problems, next pair started coming apart in less than a year,, last pair came apart in less than 2 weeks,, all 3 pair were made in the Dominican Republic..

The Bergens are nice. I have the DPM one and just picked up an OD green Dutch Lowe one too. Needed it for the same reason, my smaller ruck could not hold a winter bag.

Hi mate we tend to just tape the Weber bit of the belt to the padded bit of the waist belt👍

The webbing loops on the back, just above the waist belt, are for threading the waist belt through to keep it out of the way. British bergens don't have quick release buckles on the ends of the shoulder straps, just normal ladderlocks, so your pack has been modified. Your ruck is in DPM which puts it before 2010 after which the British army changed to MTP camo. Although the same design, the newer ones aren't quite such good quality apparently. Sorry about your boots, that's one of the problems with DMS soles, they can't be stuck back on. Probably got a PU mid sole which is subject to perishing. A lot of military gear made these days is just crap.

Hi. There are a number of variations on the Bergan and the QR strap buckles are just a short lived one. If yoy don't like the hip belt follow Ivarr's advice. Stay safe. ATB. Nigel

Take the hip belt and buckle it around the handle on the bottom of the ruck. It will be out of your way. Just be sure to twist it away from your body.. or just cut it off at the base of the padding where it meets the rucksack.. and WTF is with that shoulder strap buckle? There are no quick release buckles on British Rucksack... send me a close up pic at the forum and ill tell you whats up..

I chose Dutch Stinger pack over Bergen because it seemed more narrow without rocket pockets, hence hunting capabilities. But like all surplus packs, noisy for hunting. It replaced German ruck that has shiddy straps, flimsy cotton whatever webbing. That same webbing failed on a bread bag and broke at the sew point. The Stinger a good bushcraft pack but has spray on camo that rubs off particularly on the bottom. Maybe I should reconsider the Bergen shorty.

The bergen without the rocket pockets is pretty narrow for moving through the woods. I often use it without the side pockets and its still plenty of room

HJi. Again. How old were the boots? Not how long have you owned then but how long were they in storage? Some of the components can degrade in a couple of years if not stored propertly or perhaps you just got a 'Friday afternoon' pair of lemons. Hope your next pair of boots last longer. ATB. Nigel

QD buckles on a Bergen??? I never knew they made them with DQ straps, That or someone modded this before you. The waist belt issue is a quick fix, Bergmann touched on it in his comment. Aside from a sternum strap which is already there I left mine as it was. It’ll last you a good bit. Just don’t make the mistake of loaning it to a shibag like I did because it’ll inevitably never find its way back to you.

ive heard bad comments regarding the load lifters in the back above the shoulders,how has been your experience with those?

I ended up selling the pack. I could use it with a light load but anything heavy and it didn't seem to carry the load well for me
