Back to March 1993 and we see a couple of 47s shunting on Stratford TMD. Plus some views in C Shed of class 31s and more 47s. This whole site is now under the Westfield Shopping City, and you would never know that the largest shed in the country had ever existed! If you liked the video please subscribe to my channel, there are lots more transport & quirky vids to upload!

Having been an old "Cockney Sparra" at 30A, what we saw was called P&D (Preparation and Disposal). Loco comes on shed, gets fuelled and watered, checked for any issues in the fault book, if all is okay then loco is parked where we were told to put it. You can even see the Foreman's office and mess room at the crossing (just after loco's sound their horns). Great video..Thanks for posting....got to go nuther loco just came on shed

Lol......i'm pleased you approve! I never went to the traincrew forman to look round, a mate of my Dad's was a foreman on the engineering side so looking round when he was on was always easy.....as was access to the TOPS computer, very handy for looking up locos! I did end up working locos on here when at Acton, even did a bit of P&D one night when i got collered by ex SF foreman Freddy F to take an engine over......happy days!

@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus Your look at 30A shed is the best I have seen on KZbin, thanks for that. With a lot of hindsight all those years ago, maybe I could have made movies and taken photos to look back on Life on the Footplate and all the places I went to during my Railway Career, I would go back to those halcyon times in a flash, so now All that's left of those fine days, are memories on which for me to graze.. Thanks again, Regards, Chris

@@chriscork Hi Chris, the size of camera's these days makes that easy, my one was quite large, took E180 tapes and sat on my shoulder! And the batteries weighed a ton! I had 4 of them in order to go around and film all day. Have you seen my other YT upload of SF?....see it here kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZy9dnh6eKyoqck

Had a good couple of visits to Stratford and they were so welcoming that's the good thing. Great videos bringing back some memories.

Yes, they used to be quite good most times. A family friend worked in here on the engineering side, so if he was on getting round was easy....even the DRS at a weekend when it was closed! Sadly i never filmed that......

Top shed ! , I remember the workers tunnel that you could gain access from the station before it was modernized.

Yes, that used to be the main way in from the Station although in later years there was some steps from platform 12 thet led to the path at the depot end of the tunnel....

You can always have a pint of real ale in the Tap East bar and reminisce.....where the bar is now i think is where the outlet cabin once stood......

Shame it was only 4 minutes long.Stratford was always one of my favourite depots to visit.Unfortunatly closure was inevitable even back in the 70s it was semi-derelict.

There wasn't a lot happening unlike the 1970s. I used to visit when my Dad's friend was on duty, he was foremam on the engineering side, so it was pot luke what i caught on film. There's still some more from other visits to upload.

Plenty did, it was always full of locos ticking over....even on Christmas day i've known 47s ticking over on shed. I'm told it kept them hot and sealed any leaks in their water system.
