"We're getting there" What an inspiring slogan for a company...

It was felt to be realistic for public consumption at a time when we were doing our best, but all was far from perfect.
@paullondon66253 жыл бұрын
Indeed. It's also the British humour. That's why Carlsberg only used the slogan "probably the best larger in the world" here, not in other countries

And literally true, that was after all their job.

Yes, it's weird they used that. Really opened it up jokes and parody.

Quite moving in a funny sort of way - presumably not shot directly , but off the cuff - illustrating the many little courtesies of the much maligned public railway.

The privatised railway is a massive con job. Gone are those wonderful rail combined attraction entrance deals that BR used to do
@MannyAntipovАй бұрын
@@booth2710 there are some attraction that TOCs offer in their "2-for-1" deal, but they're not well marketed...

When I was a kid, I got ribbed about this mercilessly by my uncle: he made out that he was convinced that I was the young boy in the grey jacket with the black holdall, that went up to the British Rail porter to ask for help (accompanying music: "Every Breath You Take" - The Police). Even my dad joined in! It drove me absolutely mad!

notice how the passenger at 1:05 seems to take the news that the train is cancelled/broken down/delayed by the signals at Slough with a smile???!!!

brilliant advert.......staff are now attending a customer service school ??? as if it wasnt a given ??? ha ha ha :-) that said , this is pretty much whats going on with the NHS now ? under investment so it gives the Tories an excuse to sell it off ?

Is the door slighty open on the train departing 1 minute into the video?
@videonut19882 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think (they still had the old cars with manual doors)
@onlinefriend38892 жыл бұрын
I'd think it was arriving, as most passengers opened the door slightly, ready to jump off as the train came to a stop. If it opened while departing, that's a whole another story!
@booth27102 жыл бұрын
probably slam door stock. When I used to commute from Croydon into London many years ago - we used to roll into Victoria station and you could tell who was late for work because they used to open the doors - whilst the training was still doing about 5 mph and take 'dive-roll' onto the station platform

Seems the BR marketing team didn’t listen too closely to the lyrics of “Every Breath You Take”…
