British Rail Network SouthEast-Redhill January 1988

Another blast from the past now, Redhill on a cold winters day in January 1988. Passenger, parcels & freight trains in action with class 33, 47, 73, DMU & EMUs, the highlight of which is a pair of 73s on top of a failed 47 on a Yeoman loaded stone working. Even on electric power they struggle to get the train moving! The DMUs are Western Region ones working across from Reading to Redhill and then onwards to Tonbridge and a Crompton works a parcels train-happy days! Nice sound the original class 73s it never knew that duffs could works with class 73s i've never seen a class 73 on a freight train so far!!! Cool video from the better days of traction!!!

This was the year l started flying! So much easier taking train to LGW than car. All The BR. staff at REDHILL were all soo lovely. Thankyou so much for taking time to post this for a dose of nostalgia.

47 378 is still working, but I think she must have slipped to a stand on wet rails, and 73 114 + 73 116 were sent to provide assistance. I note the DMU that came in the platform and reversed, was running forward whilst displaying red lamps, contrary to the Rule Book !

Brings back memories. Went on holiday (long story!) to Redhill in the summer 1988. Felt like a different world to the north west of England, particularly the EDs.

101s and 119s got as far into Southern territory as Tonbridge but rarely any further ie Paddock Wood which was a cold sparse hellhole in winter.
