Those Met-Cams really were indestructibly weren't they. Apparently they even remained in service past 2000. Some interesting manouverings at Bangor there; so 37 415 came into that platform, then shunted out and backed into the back platform, then must have run round, shunted out again, and back into the other platform. All to make way for Daisy, who as we all know doesn't give way for anyone.

The Met-Cams were solid workhorses which is why they survived until the very end of first gen DMU operation. At this time some of the loco hauled services terminated at Bangor and would stable in the back platform (no longer available, there is direct foot access to a new car park, just a short stub of a siding left for Tampers ect) to keep out of the way. Most times the loco would run round first and shunt back into the tunnel, both to access the siding and again when coming back out to go Up Road. On this day they shunted the train out of the way first and did the run round back on the main nearer the time it was due back Up Road, a move which i didn't film this day.

I love the sound of the DMUs and 37s.
@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus4 жыл бұрын
Yes, 37s are always good for thrash.....and the first generation DMU's were great to see and ride on.....although i'm sure steam loco enthusiasts back innthe late 1950s and 60 would not have felt the same way!

Crewe is in Cheshire in the north west England 🏴. Major railway 🚃 station 🚉. It is a junction that goes up ⬆️, down, left and right to places. Plenty of railway tracks because plenty of trains 🚊 run to, from and via Crewe everyday and public holidays except Christmas 🎄 Day and Boxing 🥊 Day. 😎
@waltertownsend38214 жыл бұрын
What struck me about the Intercity services in Crewe was how little 1st class carriages there were; 1 1st class for 6 standard. It’s a different story these days with a 40/60 split on some services in the WCML and forcing standard class passengers to stand where 1st class is deserted frequently
@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus4 жыл бұрын
The cross country service never needed that many. By the early 90s BR was standardising on 7 coach foramtions on them. The West (& East) Coast services had several 1st Class coaches though.
@hexagon78954 жыл бұрын
The XC services had a 26-seat First Class/micro-buffet car. The main WCML workings had usually 2.5 or 3.5 First Class coaches (2 or 3 full Firsts plus a First Class/kitchen-buffet car).
@AndreiTupolev4 жыл бұрын
That would be a CrossCountry formation, whose standard formation was RFO - 5 x TSO - BSO; the West Coast formations had up to 4 firsts.

Today's railways offer better services, but less variety and not as much character either
@tintintb19804 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. That was part of my comment on another video where I said (I could be paraphrasing a little bit here) "Trains from the 80/90s just have some much more charm and are full of character."... But I also wasn't sure if it was just me looking at old trains through my rose tinted spectacles :)
@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus4 жыл бұрын
Today's railways have better services because now, unlike under BR, there is an endless amount of money poured into the railway industry. Plus of course with mass immergration, passenger numbers rise, especially as so many more people live in cities and connurbations.
