I agree with every point. Also, there are no vocal gymnastics. Every note serves the (beautiful) song. So it's less exciting than many other pieces, but contained in a gorgeous song. I am happy with both approaches by Dimash as he is a brilliant singer either way, but this is just so very beautiful.

Even though Dimash performed this song in the studio, it was live-streamed at the 20th Tokyo Jazz Festival on November 28, 2021.The song "Ikanaide" (Please, don't go) was composed in 1989 by Japanese singer-songwriter Koji Tamaki, with lyrics written by Goro Matsui. It tells the true story of Yoshiko Yamaguchi, who was born in China in 1920 to Japanese parents and became a celebrated singer and actress under the Chinese name Li Xianglan. When after WWII her Japanese origin became known, she was accused of espionage and was deported to Japan, never to return to China again. The song speaks of the anguish, heartbreak, and final acceptance of this parting as the ones who love her have no choice but to let her go. There is a Chinese version of this melody that Dimash performed at The Singer competition called "Autumn Strong," but the lyrics are different.

This is the same melody as Autumn Strong which is in mandarin and has slightly different lyrics, which Dimash has sung many times and won awards for. At his Dubai concert, which I went to, Dimash sang the first half as Autumn Strong, in mandarin and the second half as Ikenaide, in Japanese, which was perfect, as it’s hard to choose which version is best.

Dimash is beyond all doubt, the best singer I have ever heard in my 73 years on this earth! Admittedly I have loved other singers, but Dimash has an all-consuming fire that I have not seen in others. I know you as yet, haven't watched a lot Dimash yet, and a lot of Dears like reactors to start at the beginning and work their way u[ to the latest songs. I love his rendition of this beautiful song. I learned the lyrics & can now sing along (only when I'm alone as it's nowhere near as beautiful as Dimash's!) This gorgeous song is based on a true story of a Japanese woman who became famous in China as an actress during the last World War (I believe). She did not disclose her true nationality & after the war it became known & she was banished from China. The song is her loved one begging her not to leave China as he would only have memories of her and didn't want to lose her. I believe Ikanaide means please don't go. I have seen footage of the original sung by Koji Tamaki and it is such a sad story. Of course Dimash relays all of the emotion in his beautiful cover of this song, as he always does. Ikanaide, is the Japanese version of Autumn Strong which he now has sung in many different versions….all exceptionally beautiful. He first sang it in the I Am Singer comp in China in 2017. Gloria Wu, I think, has the English/Mandarin to it. Also, not to be missed in Ukraine in the red suit, Arnau World Tour, in March of 2020, and in that same concert, Vocalese (Know), and Marigolds, for Mother’s Day with his mum up front in the audience. These songs will stir you … pleasantly.

Dimash performed the Chinese version of this song - "late Autumn" aka "Autumn Strong," which has completely different lyrics - in episode 4 of the 2017 Singer Competition where he made his name. He complemented it in episode 6 with his performance of Lara Fabien's song "Adagio" (which is in English). Your reaction to that performance would be nice to see after this one. Adagio is the other side of the coin to Ikanaide. The subject matter is the same - loss - but the approach is opposite. Whereas he is ultra-sensitive and vulnerable here, his performance of Adagio is at full-blast and of incredible power. An added bonus is that he plays the piano.
