The Easybeats were huge in England in the 60s. The 2 guitarist George Young and Harry Vanda wrote all the songs for the Easybeats and then for the lead singer Stevie Wright after the broke up. Vanda and Young were the most influential songwriters and producers in Australian music in the 70's and 80's. With smash hits like Stevie Wright Blackeyed Bruiser, Guitar Band and the epic Evie i, ii and iii now there is a song. They also produced a lot of Australia's big bands, including George's little brother's band AC/DC. Vanders and Young were also mentioned in Dire Straits song Sultans of Swing they are the guitar George, and Harry doesn't mind. They also had a band that apparently was big in the UK in the late 70's Flash in the Pan. George also played base for AC/DC at the start. If your looking for a song it would have to be Evie i,ii and iii. About a man who meets a girl they fall it love and she dies in child birth. The Australian rock song.

I included Evie 1, 2 and 3 on a video jukebox when I was with Nightlife music and had to remove it because that was all that was being played. 1 coin got 3 songs, so the publicans complained. The fact that on most sites we were taking the coins for a free jukebox seemed to be lost on most of the publicans. The fact that everyone in the pub bought more beer to hear it being played seemed to be lost on my business partner. That was how we sold the juke box. People stayed longer in the pub to hear their song being played.

Certainly not Top songs of all time, more like top rock songs of recent years plus Friday on my Mind. Australia has a long history of international hits starting with Botany Bay which became popular in the UK as well as Sydney in the early 1790's. Dame Nellie Melba (whom the dessert Peach Melba is named after,) became the first gramophone recording star to have a hit record simultaneously in Australia, UK, and USA, in the late 1890's. It is a long rich musical history, and to dismiss it as "no Waltzing Matilda's" is an insult to Australian culture and music. How can a top list not include Helen Reddy? Ignore Gurrumul? Forget Daddy Cool? Not feature Russel Morris, Bee Gees, Billy Thorpe, The Delltones, Col Joye, Marcia Hines, Johnny O'Keefe, Master's Apprentices, Twilights, Mixtures, Little River Band, Skyhooks, Sherbet, Olivia Newton John, Split Enz, Jon English, etc, etc, etc

This is a small list from one radio station and has ignored many great songs and singers from Australian music history. Very little from the seventies and eighties. Even the songs chosen for some of the singers weren't their best. Ask twenty different people and you will get twenty different lists. Ask 5 different age groups and you will get totally different lists. There are hundreds of great Australian singers and groups and you will never get a list that everyone will agree on but at least it does start a conversation and enlightens non-Australians as to just how much talent there is in Australia.

"My Babe" - Aussie written song - by Cold Chisel, has to be in this list! One of their few not sung by Jimmie Barnes.

Goyte's real name is Wally DeBacker. He was born in the Netherlands and migrated with his family as a child. He recorded the some in his parents barn on their property in South Australia. Kimbra, the female singer, was a last minute stand in as the original female singer, Missy Higgins, had a scheduling conflict. DeBacker refused to put ads on his KZbin channel and "Somebody That I Used to Know" has racked up over 1.3 billion views and was the number 1 song in over 50 countries. Half of the royalties from the song go to the artist he sampled. DeBacker plays with the band he formed in the early 2000s, the Basics, and has said there will be no new Goyte music.

The two songs for me that were missing from this list that you reviewed were: 1."I was only 19" by Redgum (John Shuman) This song has become an anthem across Australia and in particular to the service personal in the Australian Defence Force, both past and present. 2. "I am Australian" by The Seekers. This song should be our National Anthem. It is more relevant to our multicultural society that our current Anthem as Australia has one of the most successful integrations of cultures within the world without sacrificing the heritage of these who have gone before us, whether we arrived in AUS 6 years ago, or 60 years ago, or 200 years ago (like my ancestors), or 60,000 years ago as the first nations did.

I don't get why some people have to resort to bleating and beating up different generations and their tastes in music. I don't care who starts it or who adds to the sad arguments, it's petty. Just be grateful for everything that your favourite music has to offer you and enjoy your own music tastes. For everyone else and whatever they like, who cares if it's not your cup of tea. Live and let live.

John Farnham suffered oral cancer and had to have massive jaw surgery. Sadly he has not been able to perform since, but is cancer free. He will always be a national treasure to us, and you DEFINITELY need to check out "You're The Voice". Incredible musically and the message hits hard.

James Reyne had a habit of undulating his voice as he sang, which made the lyrics very difficult to pick up, but I didn’t mind that because I would just sing what I heard, even if it was wrong. It was half the fun of his music! Look for Hammerhead and have a listen to the lyrics! I actually own the album but refuse to look at the lyrics so I can sing the wrong words and just have fun with it. LOL! Have you watched Peter Kay’s Misheard Lyrics stand-up routine? It’s on YT!

Very much a personal thing. When you consider Sia and Tones and I are also missing. Depends on if you are targeting Just Australians or Generally hits overseas. Because some of these would have had very limited airplay. As someone pointed out The seekers being missing. The Bee Gees.

All good songs, but there were some massive omissions in this list - artists with significant international careers eg Savage Garden, Bee Gees, Delta Goodrem, Air Supply, LRB, Empire of the Sun and Wolfmother for starters!

Australia lost its soul sometimes around the late 2000s. Fun fact, Australian Crawl is actually the technical name for frestyle swimming. But I think they had pub crawl connotations there. There is a lot of good Powderfinger songs to explore.
