What always strikes me about our SAS guys is how humble and down to earth they are and Melvyn is a perfect example of that .

Super humble, like Bob Poras. These legit guys don't need to act it up. Got nothing to prove.

Im glad Melvyn was / is on our side. To think, when i was growing up safe at home , this guy and many more like him is why i had the childhood and security we take for granted. 🇬🇧

I was with 222 Fd Amb RAMC. 7th armoured were training before they moved out for active service in the Gulf. This was at Sennelager. I have photos of all the guys getting their warriors ready. The munition for attacking runways mentioned was the JP233 dropped by Tornados. I think Melvyn and I are the same age. I have the greatest respect for this Stokey. I spent 38 years as a nurse.

I was one of the 2 rebro stations (207 Sig Sqn) supporting the Staffords in the Gulf (Granby), good Regiment! I remember the poor lad getting hit by the RPG and the Basra road, like Mad Max on that route, surreal! !Melvyn's memories are very similar to my own. Also on Grapple 3 (Bosnia) just before Melvyn's tour and used to drive the JCOs Colonel around at times with a guy called 'Goose'. 4 SAS lads used to visit us regularly to use our inmarsat at a place called Jablanica, theyd have a brew with us and chat like normal blokes (although we were a bit starstruck!). One of them was killed on that tour sadly

Not many ethnic faces there when I grew up or patrolled those streets. In some ways, the world was safer and at the same time we had criminal gangs blowing people up!

When I went to the recruiting office I had an interview with this Guards officer. I won't say the word he used describing black people, but in no uncertain terms they didn't want them in their regiment. This was mid 80s.

This is an old school soldier. As a medically retired RUC officer of 30 years in various specialist units, the Regiment did some excellent, heroic work in Northern Ireland 🇬🇧. I was proud to work alongside side a couple of them. The most unassuming and humble blokes. Unfortunately like a lot of English soldiers, he has a very basic grasp of Northern Irish history and politics, but he gets the major points across well. One point, it was a minority of Roman Catholic who supported the IRA. A violent minority and there were a violent minority of Protestant thugs as well. Salutation’s from Belfast Northern Ireland 🇬🇧 P.S we are still part of the United Kingdom and the majority do not want to be part of the 3rd world country, The Republic of Ireland. It is only held together by the EU and is full of immigrants and drug traffickers. The IRA was militarily crushed. 1 in 4 active terrorists were informing. It was beaten, but our leaders were weak and would t finish the job. Unfortunately we now have their political wing in government due to the cowardice and the gerrymandering of the various british governments and our local idiot politicians on the Protestant side.
