Had one years ago in Germany, great for German winters. Never found a hood for it. Very heavy, great for on stag in trench,or manning a R Signals Rebroadcast station on some hill in cold weather. Never understood why the hood was separate,but many surplus parkas are like this. The fish tails flap could be buttoned around the legs for extra warmth.

I did my basic training at DQD Bassingbourn Barracks between Nov 84 and April 85. The guardroom had number of very gopping examples of the parka for recruits to use when prowling whilst on barrack guard. Honking but very warm. I later acquired one of the DPM parkas when I was a in the Recce Plt equipped with CVR(W) FOX.

If at all possible ( sizes permitting ) it would be very useful and interesting to see you wearing the various clothing and webbing etc to see how everything works and how things fasten and operate. This could be done after the initial talk with the manakin perhaps.

ive sold a few of these, generally condition of these tends to be pretty poor, its great to see one in such a good condition,

I picked one up for £10 a few years back named to a WO. It's been modified by having the fish tail cut off and repurposed as a collar. It's been professionally done and in my opinion makes it a more practical garment.

Had these in the guard room in the mid 80s for cold stags on the gate. Very warm.

Why is it referred to as a "Middle Parka"?

In the original design of the clothing system there was to be an outer parka as well (I’m not sure if these were ever produced). Therefore, the middle parka would been worn between the combat smock and outer parka - in the middle!

Looks nearly mint. Must have been expensive to produce and man-hour intensive. Not like the garbage since the '00's.
