I remember my Dad having one like this, he served in Korea with the Kings Regiment. He said although issued with a sleeping bag they was not allowed to get in it only throw it over them, so his Parka was his sleeping bag. It was a Regimental thing has a patrol from his Regiment found a Platoon of Americans all dead in sleeping bags, unable to get out.

From my collection there's a few other variations I have a first and second pattern as described here, then I've one labelled as a 1952 pattern in gaberdine but with the detachable hood, then the 3rd pattern in sateen as described here. Then I have some with a 1970's label with the A/CLO/78 contract labels and NSN's, one with a white pile liner instead of the green encountered in almost all the middle parkas I've seen. Using the NSN I was able to get the design and sizing specifications from an FOI request to DE&S. So I could ascertain what wire to use for some hood repairs myself and to find out what the sizes translated to on my post 50's ones were as the labels don't state the height/chest measurements like the Korean period ones.

I seem to remember that American sleeping bags changed to a continuous loop on sleeping bags so when you undid one loop the rest fell off and you were out. There was so much kit from earlier issues available in early 80's. The very early stuff was available. Some of the so called para flaps were to help keep heat in with the draw cord as on the fishtail parkas, copied I believe from German para smock, but no real proof of that.

Yes the Airborne Denison was based on the Fallshirmjager bone bag smock. The original green version was a direct copy.
