British Tourists: Why are Prostitutes in Croatia So Ugly?

Travel is a wonderful thing, and it certainly does broaden the mind.
It also provides plenty of opportunity for misinterpretation.
One such example was a few years ago on the island of Hvar in what was probably the funniest story I have heard in my 20 years in Croatia.
A friend rented an apartment to two British guys for a week in Hvar Town. He came to collect the keys at the end of the week and asked them how they had enjoyed their holiday.
As expected, they had nothing but superlatives about the beaches, the nightlife, the women, th food, the wine, the nature, the... well pretty much everything.
Except one thing...
"The thing we couldn't understand all week is that, while the women here are so gorgeous, why is it that the local prostitutes are so ugly?"
WTF?!? thought my friend. However did they come to that conclusion?

What I have also noticed are the striking similarities between some german and slavic words example : "Soba" or room un Croatian is "stube" in german and there are other examples... I think there is a link between proto-baltoslavic and proto-germanic languages.

There is. Linguists theorize there was a language called Proto-Indo-European.

There isn't. What happens is that since Croatia was part of Austria-Hungary for many many years, they acquired many German words. (BTW soba and stube come from different roots). Stube in croatian actually means stairs. Hence, you will find German words in Croatian, but not in most other Slavic languages.

@@Kamadev888 there are still many German words in the Slovenian language, especially in Stajerska and region. They even use the old Styrian dialect for some words ... was quite funny when I discovered that :)

@@ChristoferB I speak my opinion because I am an educated, Canadian born Croatian, and I have been observing over the years…. and it is my opinion, of which I am entitled to… but let’s look at Mr. Bradbury’s title for this piece alone shall we? “British Tourists: Why are Prostitutes in Croatia so ugly?” A) The word prostitutes should not be capitalized B) Could a more sensationalist title be used? C) Mr. Bradbury, despite having married a Croat, still caters to and behaves as, an highly arrogant elitist Brit, snobbily dumping all over everyone and Croatia in order to prop themselves up… expecting everyone to wait on them hand and foot… whom also by the way, on average, are not the biggest prize themselves. I have read numerous articles and viewed enough video clips by Mr. Bradbury to have formed my opinion. I have watched his interactions with his wife, her family and other Croatians and have noticed particular rudenesses, entitlements, and a sense of unjustified superiority over the Croatian peoples. If you wish to discuss this further Sir, I’ll give you a ring the next time I am in Croatia.
