Y'all the difference is regional dialect. Just because they speak the same language, English, doesn't mean they use the same terminology. Language is effected by where it is located geographically, because through time events that happen within a community can manipulate the language of the area. That's why, even in the USA, you see differences in the language just a mere city away for some.

American terms need to broken up into Southern, Midwestern and Northeast. Also White American and Black American are pretty different. Black American is covered more in Southern though so the regions are enough . But Americans say gym shoes , sneakers and tennis shoes They say washcloth, rag and washrag They say Soda, pop and Coke (for all sodas).I think UK uses soda too and fizzy drink. Lightning bug vs fireflies Water fountain vs drinking fountain vs bubbler Garbage can vs trash can So many. I think Mitch is from small town in Northeast state so Khat, 'River' and 'Trevor' would've produced different results

Where is the allegedly American guy from? Wash rag? I’d say wash cloth. Shoes? I’d probably say tennis shoes or running shoes. And when he said some people call a sweat shirt a sweater, I was really puzzled. And there’s nothing wrong with the word trousers. Perhaps the worst was when he said “in English we say....”. English has multiple dialects as does any major language. You can only speak for your own dialect of the language.

@LarissaFay
@LarissaFay 3 жыл бұрын
The general English language across the UK, the words are just more fun to say and sounds expressive. It is confusing because there are so many words for one thing, British slang words too. 😂 USA | UK diapers = nappies trash can = rubbish bin side walk = pavement bangs = fringe candy = sweets chips = crisps drugstore = chemist eggplant = aubergine mailbox = postbox take out = takeaway zucchini = courgette pacifier = dummy liquor store = off-licence counter clockwise = anti-clockwise cookie = biscuit truck = lorry cell phone = mobile phone fanny pack = bum bag ☝️😂 language is interesting.

Trousers do mean the same thing in American English, we just don't use that word often, cause we favor words like pants, slacks, jeans etc.
