Y'all the difference is regional dialect. Just because they speak the same language, English, doesn't mean they use the same terminology. Language is effected by where it is located geographically, because through time events that happen within a community can manipulate the language of the area. That's why, even in the USA, you see differences in the language just a mere city away for some.

American terms need to broken up into Southern, Midwestern and Northeast. Also White American and Black American are pretty different. Black American is covered more in Southern though so the regions are enough . But Americans say gym shoes , sneakers and tennis shoes They say washcloth, rag and washrag They say Soda, pop and Coke (for all sodas).I think UK uses soda too and fizzy drink.
