I loved that fillum back in the day. The thing was, and I am pretty sure it's true, that the irony (intentional or otherwise - forgive me, I'm a Philistine) was that at the time when the film was set, Brezhnev was not the the leader of the USSR and Elaine wrote to a leader of the USSR who had been been dead for a while - the leader was either Yuri Andropov (died 1984) or Konstantin Chernenko (died 1985) who both only lasted about a year. Brezhnev died in 1982 and the film was made in 1985. Either way, it was a cracking film set in cracking times. Love Margi Clarke and what ever became of Alexandra Pigg (so beautiful)?

From the very first time I saw it back in 80th, I keep wondering, what are those funny white DUMPLINGS that they put on the head of poor Russian seamen? These are NOT Russian seamen hats, please google to see what Russian Navy hats (beskozurkas) look like since the time of Peter The Great. It's nothing like these pathetic US/UK dumplings, that they made them to wear in the movie))
