There was one lowes location in the charlotte-ish area that had an auntie anne's pretzel stand for a while which was strange to see but awesome at the same time. power tools and cinnamon pretzels are a surprisingly good combo. and yes, before we had ikea, we had lowes kitchens to explore.

Y’all should definitely go visit Charleston Sc, it’s a 3 hour drive from Charlotte but it’s so worth it. It was a British colonial port city before the revolutionary war, now it’s like a huge walking district full of historic architecture, parks, restaurants, and shops.

Many Americans fly the US flag from their front porch, by the front or garage doors, especially on holidays such as Memorial Day (last Monday in May), 4th of July, Labor Day, Veterans Day and of course daily. Since Memorial Day is coming soon, that’s why Lowe’s has them on display near the entrances.

It always makes sense to me to have flags in a home store because that's where you'd find the hardware to fly one outdoors. In Cincinnati we have a flag store, but for most people a Lowe's store is much nearer.

I noticed the presence of flags of the different branches of the US military among the Stars and Stripes . Many US veterans like to fly the banner of the branch they served under . US Marine Corps vets tend to fly their flag more than vets of the the other branches .

USA Flags are on sale because Memorial Day is on Monday and July 4th is coming. People like to put their flags on display especially if they have family that served. Also gardening is no joke. What you are referring to is "annuals" and you absolutely have to replant every year. It's a thing.

About the seed packets: if they are labeled annuals, you have to plant them yearly. If they are labeled perennial, they’ll come up every year.

Yes, and sometimes the difference between "annual" and "perennial" is pretty blurry. In some warmer climates, a plant might come up every year; in colder areas, it dies during the winter. A lot of garden vegetables are annuals ... but many of them produce their own seeds, if you're diligent about saving some over.

root plants will not die entirely over winter. many a re bi-annuals and don't produce seeds the first year. if you leave some in the ground they will com back and finish their life cycle the following year. and they will self plant so if you are a gardener and want to be a bit lazy you plant root crops (carrots, radish, turnips, potatoes, parsnips rooted parsley etc) and let them over winter. of course they don't plant themselves in tidy little rows though. so another option is asparagus. it does not die. every spring it will produce new edible shoots. you need about ten asparagus plants per person you intend to feed. there are feral asparagus plots in England that have been alive for 300 years and are still producing lots of edible shoots. another good bet for a lazy gardener are blue black and raspberries plus other berries or even hazelnut trees. (erm; filberts for you UK type peoples.) you may find walnuts, black walnuts, pecans, chestnuts, hickory nuts, heart nuts or butternut trees none of which of course have to be planted yearly. plus lots of fruit trees. even strawberries usually last more than one year. in fact many sources say not to let them produce their first year.

Omg this is so cool, I’m an Aussie who lived in that part of Charlotte for 3&1/2 years. That was my local Lowes, it is an addiction I was obsessed with going there and buying plants. After leaving Charlotte (having been in Chicago for 3&1/2 years before that) we moved to London and everything just seemed so much SMALLER 🤣! I had in lived in London in my early 20’s but maybe it wasn’t such a shock coming from Sydney? I feel like Australia has elements of US and UK!

Here in the States, we have several holidays that we typically put out our flags. Memorial Day (the 30th) is almost a bigger day for the flag than actual Flag Day and the 4th of July. We also have flag etiquette -- if a flag is torn, dirty, or faded should not be displayed. So that is the reason why you saw so many flags. On Memorial Day there will be parades, ceremonies, and cemeteries will be decked out with flags and white crosses for veterans.

The second, non-Americans who probably don't know that when they use it their tone is usually of condescension as they say it with a stereotypical Southern accent. And the third are patriotic Americans who use it in a loving manner.

It’s really interesting, I think we Americans often take for granted how many options we have to buy things, but it really puts it into perspective when you guys comment on what you don’t have in the UK. I’m an American who’s been living in the UK for a while. At B&Q or Wickes you can pretty much get everything a Lowe’s or HD would have. My local B&Q is in the town centre so a bit small - there’s not that much variety, but all the staples are there. Head further out to the garden centres or the industrial estate Wickes we have and there are plenty of more options. The UK also has shops like Screwfix or Toolstation which are small in footprint but have tons of random everything in stock. You go to the counter / order online and their staff goes and collects your order. I’d wager to say the average one has as much hardware as a big box store, but without customers browsing the aisles they’re able to be compressed into small buildings.

Lowes and Home Depot sell over-priced, low-grade junk to rubes who believe they are 'middle class'. The size of these places is impressive but they don't really have much selection at all. It's the same product with ten different brand names on it. Except for bulk commodity type building materials I'm now forced to buy most things I need online.

8:44 I've used this machine it's really cool. I even got a sky blue key that says "home" on it. You stick your key in the keyhole, just like a lock, choose your blank on the screen, pay, then you can watch it cut the key through the window. It spits the new key out and you're done.

After I got divorced I worked at Lowe's. They wanted me to work a register but the manager of the outdoor lawn and garden needed help so I picked working in that section. I was the one who would be standing there watering the plants. I enjoyed working there. Customers would look for me so I could help them. And they were so mad when I was laid off.

Lowe's is the same as Home Depot. Those are decorative Arborvitae shrubs, not Xmas trees, at (00:41), gardens (2:12), unless you have perennials, have to be replanted. Those are meat smokers (at 3:15), not regular barbeque grills.

Lia, there are two types of plants: perennials(which die down in the winter but come back in the spring) and annuals (which you have to plant every year if you want them. What gardeners (at least in the northern states) do in the winter is dream, plan and buy seeds for the spring time. Usually too many seeds

The American flags are for patriotic holidays. We are extremely patriotic here. We display our flag a lot. It used to be mostly kept to holidays, but after the terrorist attacks of September 11th, it really caught on year round, as a way of banding together through hard times, and to send a message to the world- specifically terrorists- "We are NOT going to take this lying down! Don't even think about it!"

Hello from Arizona. As a homeowner, I am going to Lowes at minimum once a week. My wife tells everyone who wants to give her gift cards, please make it Lowes. She does not like the ones for candle and lotions. Nope she wants Lowes.

I had to laugh. Joel had his hands on my exact grill as he said it was far too large and I did buy it at Lowe's. LOL It would quite large for most homes in the UK unless one lived in the country and had a nice covered area to use it even during cool or rainy weather. I live in a suburb of Dallas, Texas where I can literally use that grill for 50 weeks per year. The right side of that grill is for charcoal. The left side uses propane, and with the addition of some batteries it's electronic start. There's a single gas burner on the far left for warming sauce or BBQ beans so that one doesn't need to run back and forth to the indoor kitchen as often. Many Texans have an area set up as an outdoor kitchen because we can enjoy our outdoor areas for so much of the year grilling or sitting around a fire pit. My current house doesn't have the covered outdoor kitchen with a built-in grill and a fridge, but I looked at many houses that did have such outdoor entertaining areas. Instead, I let my father buy me that huge dual fuel grill that can easily be wheeled from the garage to outside. The gas side is instantly ready if one wishes to grill for dinner after a day at work. The charcoal side is great for having a nice weekend with family and friends as it has two levels and can cook large amounts even two full racks of pork ribs or veggies above the meat. It's a Texas thing!

I bought this grill for my husband’s birthday a couple of summers ago. We have 5 children, their other half’s and our grandkids. Everyone was having a debate on which was better. Some liked charcoal and some liked propane. So when I saw this grill at Lowes I bought it. So now everyone is is happy. 😂

I live in Wisconsin (up Nort we say- no h whereas you-all live down Sout---no h) and I use my gas grill 52 weeks a year. All depends on what I am in the mood for. Have a Weber charcoal grill also if i want that charred flavor but usually use wood chips with that for the smokiness. And yes I do that year-round too. I've smoked a Beef Brisket for the Super Bowl in deep snow for hours checking here and there as well. I eat ice cream (better yet frozen custard) outside in the wintry snow too. You just get used to the cold, I guess. Never let it stop you.

As a kid both Lowe’s and Home Depot were two of my favorite stores to go to with my dad. LOL He’s a contractor and needs to go there pretty often for materials either for customers he’s working for or sometimes for jobs at home. I love the way it smells in hardware stores like that, it smells like my dad‘s shop and is a super familiar smell to me; my brother and I both grew up always going to the shop with my dad. ❇️☺️💜🌟❤️

I used to go into the more traditional small town hardware stores as well as some parts places with my dad as he was an a/c repairman and electrician. The smells also bring up memories for me. It felt so special to take part a bit in my dad's work.

Top loaders are actually hard to find these days in the US. Especially if all you want is the simple dials like they were in the old days. The Wife and I finally found one and it holds a shitload of clothes or sheets and blankets. You can wash three sets of king sheets without issue.

I bought a new washer/dryer set last fall, but did lots of looking around first. There were 3 or 4 different top loaders with the old school click click dials available at pretty much every place I looked. The washer I got is a digital large capacity top loader with soft close lid, has a main central dial to select load type and some very straightforward touch screen buttons for customized settings (the set are top rated energy star for electricity and water, I LOVE them!). Yes most are digital now, but there are tons of top loaders. More accurate statement would have been something like "large capacity non digital top loaders with basic manual dials are hard to find in the area I live in". With that said, I'm glad you finally found one you liked. Appliance shopping is an expensive stressful pain in the ass.

Did you folks know about the massive fire (arson!) which completely destroyed a Home Depot in San Jose last month? Especially scary is the fact that the fire alarms AND fire sprinklers were BROKEN at that store! The fire was started at around 5:00 on a Saturday, when the store was full of people, so it really is a miracle that nobody was injured or killed!

Lowes has certain set ups for holidays and so right now we'll have the flags near the entrance. We also decorate one of our veteran parking spots for Memorial Day as well. That one you can't park in for the day.

FYI they sell indoor gardens for the year round (especially good in apartments). These are like barrels with little cups on the sides that you can plant seeds and in the center is a place where you water and put fertilizer. One barrel is like several square feet of outside garden.

The Christmas Trees were Arbor Vitae, which are used to create privacy screens in the US. Put a row of them close enough to grow together, they create a tall hedgerow.

Many of this type stores offer classes. For example seasonal planting. Where they teach you about the type of plants for the season and climate. For my area tomato plants and melons. The real question is when will it be to late to plant. As you want your fruit and vegetables before it get cold again.

"Look, there are rugs next to the plants." My local grocery store did a remodel and the aisle was shortened where the bread was kept. Unfortunately, they hadn't cut back on the inventory yet so the bread went around the corner into the next aisle. Usually they had a small section of peanut butter and jelly at the end of the bread aisle for a quick grab and go but this time it ended up around the corner with the peanut butter ending up right next to baby diapers.

Walmart's computer data system evaluations pioneered the odd placement of goods many years ago. They found people came into the store to buy x items together even though they seemed to be unrelated items. Fly swatters in the frozen aisle next to packages of ribs, say. Lowes employee here. Little late. You might not be as happy as you'd think to work in the Outside Lawn & Garden department. I never was assigned but I did help, and normally the flower watering is automated with sprinklers at night with a little help during the day, from a 3rd party team. The actually responsibilities of the OSLG team were regarding cleaning (imaging trying to sweep dirt from your garden) and lifting hundred of heavy stuff, including large stone blocks, hundreds of bags of dirt, mulch, or also fertilizer. Then you have to be fairly knowledgeable about plants. You'll get any question out there. I knew an employee that left for a different store, who taught me how certain plants drastically change color when introduced to certain toxins. Not everyone is that good, especially newer employees, but long terms workers are amazing. But yes, it's a lot of memory and a lot of physical strength required to work there. Actually, the same can be said for most departments, if I'm honest. Edit: the Thank You board. Generally, the one you can see is for the Front End department, which includes Cashiers, Loaders, and Customer Service employees. I won't speak for other stores, but in mine, I am under the impression that most day to day recognition is done by managers in each department, through emails. There is also another board for general acknowledgement in the back of the store, near our break room. This one focuses more on safety and ethics acknowledgements.

Gardening kind of makes sense when you understand your specific crops and environment. I’m in Florida for example, we can’t grow apples but Florida oranges are the best because they grow here. Have you ever have key lime pie? They grow in the Florida keys.

In my part of Texas, we have two growing seasons. Big Country Texas, only has 2 to 3 months of hard winter, 0c to -2.2c. We grow heat tolerate cops in spring/summer, and cooler crops in fall.

Unusually Florida doesn’t ever get cold enough. No frozen ground. It means that everyone plants all year long. Just add or subtract acid or base and you’re fine. I’ve got plants from 10 years ago that still produce well despite being through hurricanes and cold snaps.

Yes, many of us plant gardens every year. I plant beans ,carrots , peas , lettuce , spinach , tomatoes , cucumbers , plus many herbs. Mine are small gardens, 8x20 ft each. Seeds are about $1.50 per packet and we eat pretty much free all summer and most of fall.

you can preserve the veggies in various ways to extend that through winter. canning, dehydrating, freezing and lacto-bacillus fermentation and brine pickling. in pioneer times in cold root cellars many vegetables were hung or buried layered in wet sand in layers in trays.

I agree about top loader washing machines. At 75, I don’t enjoy stooping to toss in my laundry and remove it. However, the front loaders use less water and I’m all in to help the environment. Btw, that was our Lowe’s when we lived in Charlotte. Enjoyed seeing it again.

Home Base was bought by Home Depot back in the 90s. Home Depot and Lowe's are the two biggest hardware chain stores in the US. Lowe's corporate is headquartered in Charlotte and Home Depot in Atlanta. The key copy machine is in every large store in the US, even in supermarkets, and there are still physical locksmith shops that people go to and or call for a locksmith to come out Nest caneras and the like come in handy when it comes to people catching porch pirates, ie thieves who go up on people's porches and take mail and or packages from Amazon. I have a few neighbors both current and former who installed combination locks with codes on their front doors in the condo building I live in over the years. I like going into Home Depot and looking at the washing machines and dryers. I don't have a washer and dryer but my building does have a laundry room on each of the two floors and two of my neighbors have W&Ds in their units but my building was built in the 60s as an apt building and converted to a condo building by 40 years ago and it costs to aloy of money to get washer and dryer hook ups installed properly , it's easier to just use the laundry room.

I didn't work for Lowes but a main grocery store and we had lots of perks getting our name on the board. We got $100 cash prices and gift cards several times a month. It keeps workers motivated and happy to strive to do better.
