Every place in America has its own natural disaster problem. I was born and raised in NY and while living there I lived through about 10 hurricane and Superstorm Sandy. In fact, I could have died from Sandy because it blew down a huge tree in my yard. Luckily it fell away from my home because if it had hit my house, it would have landed in my living room where I was sitting watching the news about the storm. Now I reside in Florida and over the last 5 years I have been here, I have lived through 5 or six hurricanes and hundreds of tornadoes and tornado warnings. If you do move here to the States, listen to the local people in your area. They know what to do. If the locals tell you to leave, leave. If not, you should be ok. Now that I have lived through every disaster on this list, I know how to act and when.

Just plan your visits around the natural disaster seasons. Every state has it's natural disasters, the East gets a lot of flooding, hurricanes and tornados, the West gets wildfires and earthquakes. I live in Arizona and felt the aftershock of an earthquake once in my 40 years, it lasted maybe 8 seconds. Also only witnessed 1 wildfire, (though, we have many, mostly in unpopulated areas)

Hi Kai. Don't be put off by these kinds of videos. Texas is one of the most moved to states and most people live out their lives without ever experiencing a life changing natural disaster. Perhaps because you come from a country with nearly no natural disasters you are easily deterred. However, you guys must experience flooding or the occasional windstorm or snowstorm in Britain right? Those events come and go, wreak a little havoc with the traffic, perhaps topple some trees and generally cause a little misery. You move on, Bob's your uncle! Its literally like that here too. The places that take a direct hit by a hurricane or tornado are different. They do require time and money to recover, but we are used to the disasters that happen here and we know how to respond and resume life. If you want to live somewhere like Tennessee, Texas or Louisiana, I personally would never let the treat of a natural disaster dissuade me. If it were really that dangerous, people would have abandoned those states long ago. If you ever wanted to relocate to the states, you could find a comfortable and a safe place to live an any state. People are free to move anywhere they want. I live in state of Washington. You'd certainly fit somewhere here. Western Washington has much the same climate as England. lol.........♥ Missed Alice's lovely smile. Hope she feels better soon. ♥

Don't let any of this stop you from visiting these places, just follow the weather and see what's going on there before you visit. Chances are you will never see any of this on your visit. Thery don't happen every day or every week.

I know you are used to talking to each other to get your thoughts out, but you did a great job talking to us. This was a great reaction. The natural disasters that scare me are the ones that can't be fought against and must be survived. I would never live in Tornado Ally, Texas, Loisianna or Florida. Tsunamis scare me even more than Tornados. At least with Tornados you can shelter in a storm cellar. With a tsunami i think you just evacuate. My state California has earthquakes and forrest fires, but our buildings are built to withstand the earthquakes and we have wonderful firemen and forrest service working to minimize and stop the fires (which are mostly preventable). A few have been caused by lightening, but mostly ours are caused by people. I was surprised that we weren't on the list but i guess it makes sense because ours rarely cause a state of emergency. Thank you for a great reaction!

That's encouraging to hear, It's quite scary coming from a place where nothing can really harm you outside of a small hail stone bumping you on the noggin on the very rare occasion. I guess it makes sense that you guys would have procedures in place for the various different types.

When hurricane Milton hit Florida a month ago, there were 170 tornadoes in the county in which I reside. That was in less than 10 hours.

That's crazy! Heavy wind here is likely to knock my garbage bin over and that's about the extent of it.

In California you have to have a separate home owner's insurance for Earthquakes that can only be bought from the state itself...

Having lived in Tennessee, and now having lived in Texas (DFW) 20+ years, I can safely say you will be totally fine and safe visiting/living in either of these states! I've personally never experienced any of these things - they're not as common as this guy makes it seem - I promise!

The way he makes it sound, it's like you'll be lucky not encounter some form of disaster frequently. As someone mentioned previously in the comments though, if it was that bad then the states would be abandoned so I guess it's not so bad. :)

Part two when he breaks it down by the number of natural disasters per state that's like Comparing how many fleas you can get on a Chihuahua versus a great dane. For him two The fair. He should compare natural diyesterday's per square mile.Reasonable system of Measurement measurement

We were hit hard by superstorm Sandy . We live on a small barrier beach island just off the south shore of Long Island , NY About 50,000 people live here . Sandy came with a 17 foot high storm surge and hit us at dead high tide . The highest point on our island is maybe 10 feet above sea level , so our entire island was under water. The heavy clean-up here lasted for almost a year and homes were still being repaired and/or rebuilt 5 years later .Insurance covered only about $ 30,000 of the more than $150,000 damage to our house . Of course local government ( unfortunately we were run by democrats ) did its part to help , when people rebuilt or repaired their homes the city re-assessed their value and increased their property taxes . A neighbor 3 houses down from us had her property tax increased from about $7,000 per year to about $13,000 per year .We later voted the democrats out of power here , which the country as a whole and many states and cities just did in the last election.

Come to West Virginia. The only natural disaster we have to worry about is a flood, and if you live on a hill, you don't even have to worry about that.

Insurance covers all disasters except flooding. That one was spun off years ago since it was costing the insurance companies too much. You would need normal home insurance with a flood rider. It could be the same for commercial insurance too. There are some tornados that give little warning. You normally wouldn't evac for tornado. Leave only for hurricanes if you can do it early. New Orleans & Mississippi still haven't recovered fully since 2005. You are thinking about this wrong. Visit New Orleans & have fun. I probably wouldn't live there either. I do live in Texas & you don't have to worry about disasters. It is the heat you should worry about. And the critters. In my area sometimes the cold. Natural disasters will rarely touch you in any of these. People live all their lives never had one. Some people have had more than one. You are thinking wildfires effect the whole state. Too funny!!

You are worrying too much. You could live in Texas for years and never need to rebuild your home. I have never rebuilt my home and I have lived through everything on this list more than once.

Oh please I ve lived in Joplin mo and Florida many years and been through some hurricanes but never lost a home the major damage from a hurricane is the water if you live close to or on the water you can experience damage n flooding but that’s a problem with most coastal areas this guy is just putting fear into everything

I think Europeans like yourself see videos like this and hugely over-rate the individual risk , because of the vast land area and massive population of the US. The percentage of people who lost their homes or their lives in a natural disaster is tiny . It's similar to the wildly overblown hysteria over gun deaths here . If you aren't a black or hispanic gang member the chances of being killed by gunfire are roughly equal to the chance of being struck by lightning while fornicating with a creature from outer space .

I think it's also because we don't have any real disasters here so any amount sounds scary and these figures likely make it sound worse than it actually is. :)

OK, this guy is a fear monger. He seeks to find the bad and everything. I have lived most of my life in Texas, Central Texas and along the Southeast coast of Texas. I also have lived in Oklahoma Tulsa. Northeast oklahomaand I have lived in California. I have experienced tornadoes in Oklahoma and in Texas. I'll take texas any day of the week all night long. End of part one
