Daz is spot on with how sports leagues are slowly boxing out the everyday fans. Just in the last few years, the sponsorships of other companies seem to be more prevalent now then it was maybe a decade ago. Especially around the stadium itself.

No he's not, infact, the "average fan" doesn't go to games regularly. And if there's more money coming in to the point they can ya more, that means business are getting their money's worth on advertisements. Meaning people are watching games more and more... "average fans"...

Usually the best player in the league is not the MVP because then LeBron and MJ would have 8 MVPs each

Yea it’s usually just the best player on one of the top seeded teams or someone who just has an insane statistical season. Really depends a lot on media narrative too

One thing that Jimmy didn’t mention in this convo is that player’s contracts are dependent on the mid and postseason awards like All-Star and All-NBA teams etc. That is a contentious point because that essentially determines if a player can get Max contracts and Super Max contracts. Which also affects their decision to stay with organizations long term. It’s a double edged sword but I think the rule can be a net positive. I’d personally lower the amount of games to 60 though.

I was gonna say this as well, I was pretty shocked when he didn’t even mention it in the vid considering Halliburton talked about that point specifically

The thing that has really changed the narrative of players resting to avoid injury and to prolong their careers, is the science. It has now recently been proven that load management not only doesn't work but could actually be worse for the player. Now, I won't act like I can fully explain why, but the information is out there. That's why it was easier for them to persuade this 65-game rule. Even though it was for sure so they could secure TV contracts. But the science just isn't there to justify it being a part of the game. The type of workout they do now also affects the risk of injury. The only different thing is players back then used to play injured, so of course that shortened their careers, but no one is asking today's players to play injured. And the more you sit out, the less your body is used to taking the wear and tear of a game. So when you do play your body isn't used to it and not only are you more likely to get injured, but the injury is more likely to be more severe. Load management seemed like a logical thing when it first started, but since they have done many studies on it, it has proven to be the opposite, while also being bad for the paying fan.

Daz is right about foreigners taking in American sports games. More and more British vloggers of the Orlando theme parks take in NFL and NBA games during their visits to Orlando, NYC and LA, as they are followers. One couple doesn’t go to the parks on the weekends so they can attend Florida Gator football games on Saturday - Gainesville is about two hours from Orlando, and stay in on Sunday to watch NFL games all day. For some reason, the majority of British vloggers of the Orlando parks are from Manchester, or the immediate area.

100% correct on the corporate seats taking over the everyday fan. Unless you making great money you can’t go to the big games. There will always be those cheap tickets but it’s not the same. Football is the most expensive here in the states. You can get soccer, baseball and nascar tickets for about $150 a piece and have great seats. That’s what i have near me.

What is missing in this discussion are other methods to rest players. Instead of resting players by how many games they play in, you can rest them by how many minutes they play. Instead of playing 36 minutes in a 48 minute game, they play 30 minutes or even less. Few players, if any, play all 48 minutes in any game. You can rest them by having longer breaks in a game, or if you don’t want to risk muscles tightened up, more shorter breaks in a game. Reaching the minimum number of games played for post season rewards, and per their contract bonuses more money, should not be a problem without a serious year ending injury.

I quit watching NBA when the league started marketing the players instead of the teams. Maybe it was the players proactively marketing themselves. Either way, just not for me. To each his/her own. And the officiating is awful.

The everyday Joe who wants to go see a game or six just can't do it anymore. There are not 75 players in the league that are worth 20 million dollars a year in my opinion. Daz is dead on with his assessment about how the everyday fan is being priced out of the games and those ridiculous salaries are a leading role in that fact. Cheers! Scott L Ritchie

For the fan, it's hard to justify putting out hundreds of dollars to take the family to a game just to see the guy making more for that game while sitting the bench than your family makes in a year. Put your head down and go to work like the rest of us. The guy in the mine doesn't get to sit it out because he's a little tired and they're working a dangerous section. Earn your millions, play the game and have respect for the people paying your salary. This is why old heads have more love for the old players. Bird, Jordan, etc. went out every game and did their best for their team and their fans.

basketball professionally never interested me.. when i was in late teens/20 I saw that rules I was taught was how to play the game were just ignored.. and then over the years seeing the money these players were receiving for not playing the way the game rules state.. and it is ignored by the NBA because it helps with fans watching.. thats just wrong.. baseball at least started to get on the "steroid" players at the same time this was starting to happen in the NBA. NFL actually changes the rules and such to make the game more enjoyable to watch.. NBA just lets the rules be ignored by these under acheiving athletes.. so many say Michael Jordan could not compete today, because he was following the rules of the game!
