Fort Worth recently petitioned the NFL to get a professional football team. The NFL said no, because then Dallas would want one.

Of course more people watch an event that's televised more. China shows the World Cup, they dont show the Super Bowl.

The Paris Opening ceremony screwed the pooch with, e.g., the trans Last Supper. The Closing with the Tom Cruise hand-off for LA 2028 was cool.

Most countries dont even show the SB so it's not really a fair comparison

I'm 51 yrs old and love sports but have never watched a single soccer game in my life. Just wasn't a sport that anyone I knew played as a kid in the US. Plus, we didn't have any pro teams that I'm aware of.

The World Cup is the biggest sporting event in the world. Super bowl is only popular in the US but to the rest of the world nobody really cares. When your Superbowl is being talk about more because of the concert in the halftime instead of the game itself, this should never be a comparison in the first place.

The superbowl is a yearly eventt and although it is massive and the promotion and hype are unprecedented across the US it has limited global appeal. But the WORLD CUP is a global event that represents natins and regions across the world. It belongs to everyone and draws interest from every corner of the world. I imagine African countries supporting other African countries and Asian and possibly European countries doing the same. Simply because their region of the world is represented. The world cup wins hands down!! ♥

Lots watch on illegal streams cause they dont pay for cable. Plus who do you think makes the pizzas and food? Part of the 10% not watching cause theyre at work. Plus other regular jobs not just food. So basically 100% of the "available" population is watching.

It's 90% of the people WATCHING TV's at the time.... not 90% of people. The 20204 Superbowl had 123 million viewers (there are 330 million people in this country), eyeballs on screens. That number includes the people interested in the actual game, those only interested in the cultural event (parties included), and those that watch it for the stupid commercials and halftime show. That number also doesn't include how long people watched for, or when they tuned in.

@brockelley099 күн бұрын
It would probably be a better comparison to use the Super Bowl and the WC final. Or you could use the entire NFL playoffs vs the WC knock out stage. This video is ass.
@TheSwordOfTheJedi-u2p5 күн бұрын
That one stat was 90% of people watching TV watched the superbowl not 90% of people (so many dummies in chat)... but who was watching TV on a Sunday night but old people and sports fans. And a good % of the people who watch the superbowl don't actually even care about the game, they're watching for the commercials and the shared experience. Sports fans are the only ones who watch actual TV now anyway. The popularity of sports (in the US for sure) in the modern day is in no small part to sports betting. I haven't watched a full game of any kind in 20 years, and over the last 10 years I've only ever seen highlights, and that's only if one of "my" teams is doing well. Why would I want to watch sports when I could be watching a movie, binging a show, playing a video game or reading. Omg this one group of people scored more points/goals/whatever than this other group of people.... there's 2-4 hours of my life I won't get back. Also, rooting for a team is an inherently silly thing to do. Basing your self worth or pride on how well your local teams are doing is also very weird. The Superbowl is undoubtedly huge, especially when you consider the fan base is overwhelmingly from a single country. But as I stated earlier, it also gets a very large amount of viewers that don't actually care about the sport or even the game itself, but are instead watching for other reasons (they're at a party, watching because of a spouse, like the commercials and half time, have a bet with co-workers etc). While the world cup is literally the final of the most popular sport in the world.

I'm a huge sports guy, during the season I'd watch 2-3 NBA games a day. However i understand where you're coming from in that sports is weird for somebody who doesn't enjoy it. You're watching a repetitive motion, get highly emotional for a certain team, and adults(fans) wearing a jersey of another adults name on their back is something i always thought as weird. It's harder to connect to somebody when you don't understand why they're interested or not interested about something. I have a friend who doesn't like or listen to music at all. I never knew that was possible and i still cant figure out why he doesn't lol

World Cup is bigger because way more people watch and play it. It's the world game. Football is an American sport that's just starting to get traction around the world, but other countries really don't play it. I don't believe the 10% quote. I think the number of tvs not tuned into SB is higher than 10%. Not everyone is a football fan

I noticed that some of you guys in the UK are always interested in what’s bigger,better or more of this one or that one. It tends to influence you guys participation level and it seems to mean some how that you are doing the “right” thing because it’s the biggest. Yes,Soccer is bigger and that’s fine. Call us Americans self centered but we like and enjoy what we prefer we like having a good time! We don’t care if soccer is the biggest and it wins. lol We don’t follow we do our own thing and more power to those that do their own thing.

The 10% not watching it are people in hospitals having emergency medical episodes, homeless people, street walkers, and people who don't own tv's. 5 years ago I cut the cable cord and have been using an antenna for my tv, unfortunately with an antenna you can't watch tv unless the weather is perfect outside, even just the slightest breeze will pixilate and freeze the picture.

Have not watched it yet but it has to be world cup final va superbowl. Otherwise its comparing apples to oranges. If they are going to compare the whole tournament than you better compare it to every NFL playoff game leading up to and including the SuperBowl.

If you want numbers: Super Bowl versus the World Cup final in Qatar. The Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles set a domestic viewership record with 115.1 million viewers and another 56 million outside the U.S. Now 1.5 billion viewers watched for Lionel Messi and Argentina’s defeat of defending champions France in the 2022 World Cup final. FIFA World Cup (2018): Across the entire tournament, over 3.57 billion people (more than half the global population aged four and over) watched at least some part of the World Cup. This includes all the group stage and knockout stage matches, leading up to the final. Super Bowl: While the Super Bowl is a single event, including all NFL playoff games leading up to the Super Bowl, viewership still doesn't come close to the World Cup. The entire NFL season and playoffs typically draw roughly 200-300 million unique viewers in total, primarily from the U.S.

The difference between U.S. half times and U.K. is UK use half times to go to the Bar, because if I am not mistaken you cannot have drinks and food at your seats. In the US, not only can you bring food and drinks to your seats, they have vendors walking the steps selling beer, hot dogs, etc. Daz correct me if I am wrong
