Country gravy is basically the same thing as the sausage gravy minus the sausage. They are both made with pan drippings/grease or fat, flour, milk, salt and pepper.

Yeah and we used to pile into our local Denny’s at 2 AM after the Bars closed ! Had to have somewhere to go sober up and Denny’s was a little better class of people than Waffle House late at night. Waffle House had all the trouble makers and Denny’s had all the happy drunks who wanted to be lovers not fighters after leaving the Bars 😂🤣

Dennys is a corporate chain. It's consistently decent. 'Mom and Pop' diners can be hit or miss but the good ones are awesome.

Covid ruined 24hr establishments. Nice dive breakfast place by me use 2 be open 7am to 5am closed 2 hours to clean and restock. Now that close at 10 or 11pm. Who tf guna cook me country fried steak at 2am. O ya Dennys hour's changed as well.

Next time mom gets tea, confirm if it is ice tea or hot tea. The usually serve both, but ice tea is more popular and common in America.

And at a lot of places you can get sweetened ice tea and unsweetened ice tea, you just have to say which you want. A lot of people get the unsweetened and add their own sugar or sugar substitute to taste. In terms of hot tea, it's usually just a mug of boiling water with a tea bag tossed in so you'll probably need to request cream/milk as an addition.

Denny’s has all kinds of food for any time of day and I think the whole menu is available at any time. So if want breakfast for dinner at 9 pm you can get it. Their prices are great too!

Not the best in My opinion not the worst either. Honestly for breakfast waffle House or I Hop is better. As far as lunch and supper any steak/hibachi/Mexican/Sea food restaurant is going to be better. For southern food cracker barrel would be the best for a southern dinner. I say that while living in Georgia all my life.

I lived in the San Diego area California for 20 years and Denny's was always my breakfast choice. I moved back east to Virginia. Just in time to watch the last 2 Denny's along interstate 81 near where we lived close. I haven't eaten at a Denny's in about 6 years. the closest ones now are in Virginia Beach or North carolina.

I prefer IHOP. I've been to some Denny's that weren't that great and that kind of ruins you for the others. So I would rather go to IHOP or Waffle House - although not the one near me. I went there once when some of the town had a power outage (including me) and the restaurant was filthy. So it may not have been totally their fault.

Denny’s is the go-to if you have a Thanksgiving dinner date with your girl at a fancy restaurant, but you don’t realize the kitchen closes early and you get there too late to eat; and so you do Thanksgiving at Denny’s because it’s the only place still open. Not that that’s ever happened to me.

i find it fascinating watching you guys document your trip because everyone i know have different go to breakfast restaurants. and i love that you guys always give an honest and unbiased opinion and are very open minded + respectful. from people in my life, it seems like more people lean towards ihop more. it can be because of a bad experience at a certain restaurant location, food not good or customer service, etc. and be influenced by one experience. i haven’t been to a denny’s in about a decade and i kind of want to go to one now that i’m watching this 😂

You’re right that it’s not fast food. Denny’s falls into its own category we call Diners. They usually serve breakfast all day, sometimes 24 hours a day, but they also serve lunch and dinner…. Maybe also at any hour! Just know that Denny’s can be great at one location and really awful at the next. So finding good one on vacation is gold! So glad you enjoyed it!

Steak and eggs in the morning is a traditional American thing. That's what we call an English muffin, a regular muffin is much bigger and sweet (corn, blueberry, oat, etc) with a big top and small bottom.

I am 64 years old and I have only been to a Denny's maybe 5 times in my life. I only went at 3 or 4 am after a night of drinking, because most of the time they were the only place open to eat that late. I put salt and ketchup on my hashbrowns, hot sauce and pepper on my cheesy eggs, and I put butter and jelly on my muffins.

The gravy looks like white country gravy. Which is essentially the same as sausage gravy without the sausage. So it’ll have a similar taste, but not identical. ETA: The gravy name may be regional. I live in the PNW and we call it Country Gravy.

Pro tip for Chicken Fried Steak. Have to have eggs over easy or medium. You have to dip the Steak in the egg yolk. Also, you don't eat each item individually, you have to mix everything together.

A Chicken/Country Fried Steak is a cheap, tough Flank Steak, that has had the crap beaten out of it to make it tender. Then it is dipped in fried chicken batter, and deep fried. It's usually served with either White Gravy or Sausage Gravy. It was a "poor people" meal it the old days. I personally love it.

A little tip, when you get a strawberry lemonade at a sit-down restaurant and it isn't a fountain drink, if it is too sweet, you can ask them to cut the syrup in half.

It's not sausage gravy, it's country gravy. For country gravy one adds a roux to milk and seasons with salt and pepper they heats to thicken. There is no sausage involved although bacon fat may be used to make the roux. Sausage gravy is made by coking breakfast sausage crumbles, using that fat to make a roux, adding milk,salt, and pepper and bring to a simmer to thicken. It's like a country gravy with sausage added. So, for chicken fried steak, chicken fried chicken, etc. one uses country gravy, but for biscuits and gravy, one uses sausage gravy. Two different gravies based on the same concept.

I haven't been to a Denny's since the 80's; about 1986 or '87. While traveling we stopped at one and, when inside, asked for a high-chair for our baby boy. Waited a long time and finally someone came back to us to take our order. I mentioned having "asked for the chair almost thirty minutes ago"...and our order was taken with the promise the chair is coming. It took another ten minutes or so before the chair came. Then when our food arrived, my wife's plate had a giant hairball sitting on top of her food. As though someone cleaned their hairbrush and place it there like a cherry on top. I asked for the manager and showed it to him, and we left and never returned to any Denny's again. This happened in San Antonio TX.

My go to at 2:00am is a side of hash browns and coffee so I am awake driving home from a concert. When my dad was still with us I would meet him at the local Denny's for Sunday dinner. He had the chicken fried steak off the Senior Menu and I would have the hamburger and fries. We did this routine until he died. I still go there sometimes but it's still hard to sit where we always sat. But Denny's is a classic and open 24hrs.

the gravy on chicken fried steak is called country gravy and is basically a bechamel sauce made with pork fat and heavily seasoned with black pepper. the only difference between country gravy and sausage gravy that you get on biscuits and gravy is that sausage gravy has actual bits of sausage mince in it.

Gravy with coffee in it is called red-eye gravy and is a dark color.

They are called English muffins because a British guy invented them I believe in New York City over 100 years ago and I think his last name was Thomas

As someone who has worked at a Dennys for several years I will just say I am glad you enjoyed yourself. This is probably the only Dennys I've seen that looks so clean and elegant. Most likely a corporate owned store as the private Franchises are the ones to stay away from.

The Denny's across the highway from our house, (maybe one mile away), used to have the most marvelous breakfasts ever. Their banquet room burned down. We were told they would remodel, but they tore it down to put on a motel instead. Another Denny's about three miles away didn't match the food quality so we stopped going. I guess a single chef makes all the difference.

You're not apt to find a chef in Denny's or other major chain restaurants. But yes the cook will make a huge difference in the taste quality of the food that's served.

In the south US, all iced tea is sweet tea. You have to ask for unsweetened tea specifically and then the restaurant may or may not have it. In the north US, unsweetened iced tea is more common.

Country gravy has a much wider definition…for some, it’s just a bechamel with pepper. For others, if you say, “country gravy,” you mean fried chicken gravy. Like all your subscribers, my wife and I love you guys. But I will have to admit. We were a bit disappointed to see you guys. Go into Denny's and that's because it's not a bad place. But it's not exceptional and it's extremely low on America's choices when they go out for breakfast. Certainly like everything in America. Is many people that like Denny's? But from the most part, they are only in the mid-range of mediocre. And they are not A diner. Well, not a true diner, especially when true diners are so awesome. Denny's doesn't come close. What they are though is huge is Denny's everywhere. But as far as my. Wife and I are concerned. We will only go to the Denny's when we're somewhere where there was nothing else to choose from. For if you guys liked Denny's, you would love an actual real diner.

Tip for you, when you visit a new city/town ask the locals where they love to eat and what they order. Ask your hotel staff, Uber drivers, store clerks, or just anyone who you have an opportunity to visit with. Americans love helping tourists optimize their vacation experiences.you will find the true gems in each location by letting the locals help you. Ask several people and pick the places that are most recommended.

Which usually the best are from farms where the hens gets some corn, and are allowed out of the chicken house. Along with where they have a large area to roam around. Then they'll pluck and eat grass or other plants, along with whatever bugs they can catch.
