Ranch dressing mix and seasoning comes in a powdered form as well as already mixed in bottles. Those little triangles were probably cream cheese with the seasoning mixed in and possibly some sour cream or mayonnaise mixed in. The sauce looks like sweet chile sauce but even if it wasn't, I think sweet chili sauce would be delicious on those. I use the powdered seasoning in several ways including in a mixture that I toss on popcorn. The Pork Belly looked amazing, I would definitely have gotten that if I was at that fair. A twinkie is a vanilla sponge with a ceam filling. I have never been a fan but deep fried, I do sort of like them but once was enough for me. On the challenge, I think I would skip both of them. The drink seems too sweet though the idea of corn and cola while weird, probably doesn't taste bad. The sandwich is just weird. I love potato chips so I probably wouldn't hate it but I probably would not eat it a second time either. So the potato chip sandwich I will say was the weirdest one.

It is different than Salt Water Taffe and you can only buy it there once a year during fair time in all types of flavors. I like the Green Apple flavor while the regular plain honey is good too. They make great great hard candy as well if you freeze them in the freezer and then take them out to suck on them as they thaw till they get chewy again, they last longer that way. You can eat your way through a portion bag of those real fast.

The way to survive the Minnesota State Fair is to share practically everything, and to not to feel you must finish every single bite. We go every single year on opening day, fully aware it's expensive. But you save a fortune when you share it all. (We get our own bottomless milk, and know some favorites that only 1 of us like. We only eat this way once a year. Cheese Curd Tacos are our favorite. Pro Tip You should have gotten 2 different flavors so you could try more than 1 in a single order. My godson worked RC BBQ making ribs and that Bacon Crunch this year. 😋 He ROCKED it. We're not huge fans of Nordic waffles. If we do get them we stick with sweet rather than savory. Deep fried ranch is easy put in bread or freeze it, coat it in batter and fry the hell out it. They likely froze ranch dressing solid, battered it and fried it as it was the easiest thing to do. It’s the same idea with deep fried butter. As they froze a stick of butter and covered it in batter and fried it. Somebody actually deep fried coke before. It’s little doughnuts mixed with coke syrup in the batter, fried, then topped with even more coke syrup. It literally reeks of coke and tastes like coke, but it’s not really drinking a coke

I hope you got some actual straight-up fried cheese curds while you were there. You don't usually commonly find them outside of dairy-producing areas because they haven't been processed into actual cheese yet and don't have a shelf-life like cheese does. My best description for people who haven't had them is that they have a taste similar to cheddar but melt like mozzarella when cooked. Uncooked have the texture of fresh paneer. They degrade in quality fast if they aren't eaten relatively soon after being made, but eaten fresh they are amazing.

Hey there, y'all! Glad you had such a good time in my home state. • The logistics of the deep-fried ranch dressing: They mix ranch seasoning and buttermilk powder into cream cheese, chill it, shape it, then panee it. • The weirdest thing is the pickle pizza. Which you didn't get to. At least, not in this video. • Of the two choices at the end, I'd keep the float, skip the sandwich, and the sandwich is the weirder of the two. And on the topic of weird foods, I keep waiting for the Koreans in Minnesota to come out with deep-fried kimchi. Personally, I think deep-fried radish kimchi or lotus kimchi would be the bomb.

The main trick for deep frying things that aren't completely solid, is to freeze them, then coat them in batter while they're frozen. The batter has to be just the right consistency, so that when fried it quickly hardens into a crispy shell that holds the molten interior in place. You keep it the whole thing frozen until you're ready to drop it into the frying vat, and the size of the middle part is calibrated so that it melts all the way to the center just about the time you have to take the thing out of the vat so the batter doesn't get too overdone. This method can be used to create all manner of abominations: deep fried peanut butter, deep fried honey, deep fried maple syrup, deep fried molasses, deep fried tapioca pudding, deep fried Cool Whip, deep fried ketchup, deep fried mayonnaise, deep fried honey mustard, deep fried butter, deep fried honey butter, deep fried sour cream, deep fried Dr. Pepper, deep fried root beer, deep fried lemonade, deep fried pickle juice, deep fried Dave's Insanity Sauce, ... Some of these have to be made bite-sized so you can eat the entire thing in one mouthful, because once you bite into the shell, the contents will all spill out. Others are thick enough to be a bit more forgiving. Deep fried buckeyes would be great, but I'm surprised they had them that far away from Ohio.

Like the fried ranch says it might be sickly after too much, same with all fried fair food. Banana/honey fried thingie - Ah the old 'Pad the profits by giving them the dough ploy' (said with my best Inspector Clouseau accent}. Unfortunately, you drink a float with a spoon. Not sucked through a straw. A few of these appeared to be a rip off compared to other state fairs.

I haven't been down to the State in years now, but I was there every year of my life until I was 23 - I lived right on the fairgrounds & worked as an usher at the Grandstand & Colosseum shows in my teens/early 20s. It was a program for 4-H & FFA teens - it ended in the 1990s. I remember when Sweet Martha's Cookies were new! I lived on Sweet Martha's Cookies, Hawaiian Shaved Ice, World's Greatest French Fries, Roasted Corn on the Cob & Roasted Turkey Legs 😂 the food wasn't really very good at our dorm on Machinery Hill. I also lived on the Fairgrounds a couple other weeks through the summers in my teens for different 4-H camps at the 4-H Building. I'm very glad that it was never as hot in the 1980s & 1990s as it was this year!!

Wow, it sounds like you have some incredible memories from your time at the fair! Those food staples are truly iconic. It’s amazing how certain experiences stick with us over the years!

to deep fry ranch simply freeze little discs of it then batter and fry. by the time the ranch becomes a liquid again, the outer crust will have formed on the fried breading, keeping the liquid ranch contained until you break into it.

For our 25th anniversary, my husband bought a commemorative bench for us at the MN State Fair. You're welcome to come back and use it any time!

What a beautiful gesture for your anniversary! Your bench will surely be a lovely spot for many memories at the fair. Next time we will have to search it out... Thanks for watching.

105 degrees is even too hot for the swimming pool. I'd stay indoors with the air conditioning turned up.

There used to be a water ride by the entrance, we'd always go get soaked and then walk around some more!

I haven't been to the state fair for years. I have enjoyed watching folks eat the food on Utube! I'll be having a pronto pup, corn on the cob , other classics before I spend any cash on the new foods next year. I might be able to save some money if I start my savings for the fair food now! Haha.

You are very brave! When I go to the Fair I usually limit my choices to a Pork Chop on a Stick, Mini Doughnuts, a Foot Long Hot Dog, Egg Rolls, Sweet Martha's Cookies, Ice Tea, Milk Shake (from the Dairy Barn) and Fresh Fruit (I don't have them all, those are just my choices) opting out of many deep fried offerings. You went above and beyond!
