I'm just thinking: the highest numbers in DV 23 are 35xxx in EU and 65xxx in AF. There are 50-55k visas available, there are approximately 120k winners (+ -). If so, there are large holes between case numbers and 60-70k of DV24 in EU may be like 35k in DV23. Can it be this way?...

Hello @BritSimon - I think that a video on the reason why a case may be disqualified and hence generate a hole/gap ahead of the announcement may be a good idea. It may have the added benefit of getting people to do a better job during the submission phase in October/November. It would be good!

2024 EU 33200 I just heard today about the case no. predictions and got devastated- I applied from North Macedonia, and that’s part of Europe… and people are telling me it’s one of the last numbers to be called for interview (if ever). I only started panicking when I saw 2023 bulletin delegating 32000 as last number for September… But hope dies last, so I’ll be waiting for the September 2024 bulletin to give up 😄

Lots of people "won" their DV lottery this year because of two things happening at the same time: applying without a passport and huge fee increase this summer. The fee increase will have a severe impact on the number of applicants willing to proceed. Especially in Africa. The family of 4 has to be ready to pay 10+k.

@BritSimon how and when are the case numbers generated. Some confuse it with the confirmation numbers and how it impacts one’s chances of being selected.

The case number is randomly assigned to every case in the early part of the draw process. In fact that is how the draw process works. Every entry within each region gets a case number (rank order) and the system then sorts the entries lowest case numbers first. The lowest case numbers are the initial selectees, then holes are created and eventually the remaining selectees are announced.

Does that mean that a lot of people will not get chance to go to interview because of the high case numbers? THe VB number is controlled by region. So you cannot get interviewed before your case number is current, even if your embassy is not busy.

Hello Britaimon! I have a question please. My friend got selected and when she applied she included her husband and kids which one of them had turned 21 like almost 2 months before the lottery started. She thought it was 21 and under. Now when she enter to fill up the ds260 her daughter’s name is there with all of them. Should she just ignore it and not complete it or she needs to remove it from her list and if so how she can do that. If the selectee has a high school diploma equivalent, then the degrees don't matter. If they don't have that, then there's no guarantee the degree(s) will be accepted instead, although they might be. You're supposed to have 2 years of professional work experience if you don't have the high school diploma. But proving the work experience thing is tricky and almost everyone who has a college degree has a high school diploma equivalent too, so it's best to just get a copy of that and use it for DV cases.

Wow - 26 years of trying - awesome you kept at it. It is too soon to know when you would be interviewed, although your number seems pretty good. However, it's a fairly safe assumption that you would not be current until very late 2023, or perhaps early 2024.

Some numbers for very small countries do not seem to make sense. The visa lottery is something you must keep tabs on year by year, or else that small window of opportunity escapes you. To imagine almost a 1000 persons from some small island waiting around for this particular window raises interesting questions. And added to that not everyone has constant access to computers (personally I find mobiles a pain to do any serious work). Plus there is need to make sure that photos are done professionally or else it does not upload.. I see numbers like 600 pretty high for populations of 100,000 plus people. This raises a lot of questions.

The numbers are not seperate by country, they are within a region. So a person from a small country in AF region could have number 2024AF1 or number 2024AF110000.

Many people do aos in the US, if you have never been out of status nor worked illegally you should be fine. However you can't submit right now and it has its own timeline of submission

(2) Once you receive the green card is there any limit of time to enter to the us without losing the green card?

You can enter as soon as you have the visa, and MUST enter before the visa expires (6 months after the medical).
