@JJLarkin Жыл бұрын
When he says "but folks just called him Yella' " it refers to the fact that they thought he wasn't brave. Derived from "yellow-bellied" which means to be cowardly. I know you love a story and Kenny never fails to paint one. Enjoyed this reaction along with all the others!

Kenny was truly one of our greatest storytellers. You would love Daytime Friends (about a woman having an affair with her husband’s best friend) and Ruby Don’t Take Your Love To Town (about a paralyzed vet whose wife is out whoring around), both songs with really memorable tunes. I also recommend his duet with Dolly Parton (his favorite duet partner and true friend) Islands In The Stream, also covered very successfully by The Bee Gees.
@kendallcarstens9194 Жыл бұрын
Bee Gee's may have recorded it at one time, but Bee Gee's (Barry Gibb) actually wrote Island's in the Stream for Kenny to record.

Yes, Kenny and Dolly were great friends but I don't think she was his favorite singing partner. There is a video where Dolly was being honored or something like that and Kenny was there. Since he was right there next to her, he pretty much HAD to say she was his favorite but you can see him hesitate before saying it. I remember at least 2 occasions where he said he liked singing with Dotty West the best and Dottie West wasn't even there when he said it. PS Kenny actually guest hosted The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Omgoodness, he looked so shy and nervous. He had Dottie West as a guest so I think they were great friends and wouldn't be surprised if they had a fling. He just really seemed to be attracted to her and really like her a lot.
@ConansHair1972 Жыл бұрын
The song wasn't covered by the Bee Gee's, it's THEIR song, they wrote it...
@Paladin70 Жыл бұрын
@@ConansHair1972 It is true that The Bee Gees wrote the song for Kenny to record, which he did with Dolly Parton in 1983. Then, fifteen years later in 1998 The Bee Gees recorded and released it. A cover generally refers to a new release of a previously recorded song, so a song released fifteen years after the original version could, in a sense, be considered a cover even though they wrote but never previously recorded it.

SUGGESTION: When I'm gone (music video) by joey and Rory. BACKSTORY: This song was written to cope with a loved one dying and joey and Rory wanted to include it on their album. When I'm gone was released in 2012, not knowing that 2 years later she would give birth to a beautiful child who has down syndrome & a few months later getting diagnosed with cancer and then die from it in 2016. She was beautiful on the inside and on the outside. She had a beautiful heart and a beautiful voice. May she R.I.P.

I think the first and last times the line "Everyone considered him the coward of the county" are used, it has entirely different meanings. The first time, it established that nobody who wasn't close to him had any reason to suspect that Tommy had any substantial courage or potential for conflict in him. The last time, it can be interpreted to mean that they USED to think he was a coward, but they know better after his conflict with the Gatlin boys.
