Heads up. The reason you see people dancing off beat, is that a lot of the time, they're dancing to no music...especially when there's dialogue in the scene. They add the music in post production. Not every time, but most of the time when you see club/dancing scenes

I worked in video post production, at one point working on dailies. It's pretty weird to watch. When they add the music in post, it looks like no one has any sense of rhythm. The dancers at a prom at a school for the deaf would stick closer to the beat. And watching dailies, you realize how boring the process is. Watching grass grow is just as interesting.

And a lot of times they really are dancing to a different sound. I had a scene in one of my films where there was an exotic dancer.... she is dancing to Deadman's Party by Oingo Boingo... when the product refused to pay the 10k for the rights and made me use a library track I had to cut the scene to match the beat and song style (Much different song). The dialog, I shot completely solo, no background action as I didn't want to deal with continuity errors

The reason why they aren't dancing to the same music is usually because they either didn't have the rights yet to play the music they wanted, they didn't get the rights to play what they're dancing to, or the song that's in the movie hasn't been written yet. So, they play something else, hopefully that sounds close.

It really shouldn't even be that hard, all you need is a song with the right tempo. Sure, in post you might not get the rights to a song you want with that tempo, but you should at least know the tempo you're _planning_ to use when you film the scene.

most DJs especially at clubs have boxs with like half walls the protect & hide the equipment so you usually just see the dj's hands as he said moving around but often blocked by the partial wall. In movies in some cases it's because the equipment isn't really there & the "dj" is just expected to fake it.... Saves on costs & if as in this case the DJ set up isn't really a big part of the scene why spend money you don't need to.

Yeah my manger wanted me to audition for a biker movie in the 80s I didn't want to but my manger won't take no for a answer I guess he's 6ft5 he looks like a biker. But music was all I wanted. But i showed up been parting all after a gig haven't been to bed. They gave me some lines too read I vaguely read them. One if the little dudes said that was horrible he said read it like a tough biker. All Remember was, F You snot rag I'll brake you in half. Walked out got my hog and peeled out.
