At the start, it wasn't alcohol he poured on his head, it's peroxide... it bleaches your hair. He did it to look like Eminem. I know because my brother would use it when he was really into Blink 182, and he wanted that super blonde spiky hair that a lot of their fans seemed to love. It would burn extremely bad if it got in your eyes though, so yeah, he's crazy rubbing it all over his face.

I firmly believe Eminem to be one of the biggest drivers of change in talking about mental health and considering the effects of mental illness. I'm a psychologist, currently training to be a psychotherapist and to me, his portrayals of mental health issues are often as educational as they are entertaining. One of the first tasks I was asked to carry out when I started studying psychology at university was 'Define Intelligence, and do not turn the page until you have a concrete definition'. After about half an hour of wracking my brains coming up with a 'catch-all' definition, I turned the page.... and discovered there is no unanimously agreed upon definition. I say that to say this: IQ tests, while they are a reliable predictor of self-reported and objectively apparent lifetime success, are not necessarily a measure of intelligence (in terms of how 'smart' somebody is). Eminem, academically was an underachiever. I'm not sure what he'd score on an IQ test but I would guess it would fall short of genius level (roughly 142+). When you juxtapose this with his undeniably brilliant artistry, in words, acting, storytelling, communication marketing, poetry, philosophy, culture shaping and composition (among many other things), the only conclusion is that he is one of the greatest minds to ever grace the earth. So my point is that Eminem is probably the best example I've come across (and I do look for these things) of the invalidity of IQ tests in measuring what is colloquially referred to as 'intelligence'. While it may seem comedic to some to suggest it, I place Eminem's effect on his contemporary culture to be similar to other great historical philosophers, T.S. Elliot, Cicero, Plato etc. - and while it may seem comedic to some to place a 'rapper' in this company, take heed of the argument I made above and answer honestly: is this a collection of three geniuses and a 'rapper'? Or is this simply a collection of four geniuses? I rest my case.

first, you are right about pronouncing Dido's name. *Fun fact* the course of this song is a sample of Dido's song "Thank you." that Eminem heard on the radio and then coalbed with her for "Stan". Bonnie has a few references. Bonnie (of Bonnie & Clyde) was a couple that was notorious bank robbers. Eminem has a son called 97' Bonnie & Clyde. Eminem has called his daughter Bonnie because he would do anything to protect and take care of her. The Ronnie that"stan referenced in this song was Eminem's uncle whom both introduced Em to rap and took his life. Both EM and Ronnie were close in age and had a relationship almost like they were brothers. The death of Em's uncle's suicide greatly affected him in a way that was the fuel to really pursue rap seriously. Rawkus was a record label called rawkus records, which Eminem was a part of before he met Dre. In the uncensored version of stan's last verse, the screaming is from a 9-1-1 call of a woman being murdered. the kid that play's Matthew(Stan's bother) is Nathan, Eminems real life brother.

There was loads of bands outside of hiphop talking about mental health during and way before that, country, heavy metal, indie. You could go back to the 40s with hank Williams, the 60s with the beatles, the 70s with the who, the 80s with Metallica, the 90s with pearl jam... the list goes on and on.

Fun Fact Dido's part was actually sampled from her original song "Thank You" and believe it or not it's actually more of a positive song so Em was able to take one lyric of that original and turn it into a depressing story, and Dido was on board with it so it turned into a feature even though it was really sampled

He is a great storyteller, but there are lots of rappers out there that are just as good. Slick Rick, Gift of Gab, Aceyalone (check Book of Human Language), Chali 2na, to name a few, and there are loads more. Also, rap was very much storytelling back in the late 80s. Beastie Boys with Paul Revere. Fresh Prince told loads of stories with his raps. Young MC. They were all about the stories. Eminem is top tier for sure, don't get me wrong, but there are a lot of others up there with him.

I agree he did a phenomenal job as "Stan" in this video and dido was great as well and her singing and lending this hook to this song when it was part of another song of hers. Im 45 now so i grew up in the glory years of hip hop and im so thankful for all the amazing artists that changed my life and inspired me in healthy ways , well healthier then Stanley here that's for sure. My two favorite artists are Nas and Eminem but I have a long list of amazing rappers from 90s ans early 2000s hip hop when it was selling more records then any music. Bone thugs N Harmony broke a very long beatles record for most singles sold with Crossroads. This was before the internet downloading and streaming days where you had to save your money and head to sam the record man or sunrise or hmv to get your favorite cassettes then came CDs and i got into hip hop still in cassette stage but CDs were creeping in and N.w.A albums and ice cube when he went solo albums were like 45.99 labelled imports lol. I miss those days just blazing and listening to bone thugs or Mobb Deep, Big L and may many others. But great reaction to a timeless song that actually got the term stan in the dictionary

Stan was played by Devon Sawa. He was a teen heartthrob actor back in the late 90s-early 00s. First thing I remember seeing him in was Casper. He played the human Casper at the end of the movie.

If im not mistaken, the "bonnie" reference was because in eminems song "just the 2 of us" eminem called him and his daughter bonnie and clyde as they were dumping kims body off a bridge(brutal song tbh) i could be mistaken but it just adds up considering stan did something similar to himself

The cycle did in fact continue you’re smart enough to realize that’s even a possibility. The song Bad Guy is the continuation when your ready to see the next part.

I have watched quite a few of your videos. Your singing voice is really good. You may just sing some examples but from what I have heard it is almost perfect pitch. I am absolutely no expert, but I have played violin for 15 years and people say that is an instrument that reps the human voice the best. This may mean nothing to you, which I understand especially from a random person, but your singing voice is just so good! Its so on key!

Eminem had an old son, Bonnie and Clyde '97, and he used Bonnie a couple of times in his lyrics that is why Stan refers to that name. It shows us, Stan loves Slim Shady, not Eminem, but his character he created. He created this bad, evil alter ego when he used these crazy imagery back in the day. His name is Marshall Mathers where he got the nickname M&M = Eminem, so .. I think Em first used Slim with a hockey mask and chainsaw, etc. And he made these disturbing imagery like when he askes : do you want to see me put needles into my eyelids? Did I mentioned he asked that from fictional children? yeap! He did :D Because of this there was a protest against Em, just like they have for politicians, it was that big of a deal back then. And Em was saying, why do you let your child listen to his music? For him it was sort of expression, not really catering for others.

Definitely one of the best songs ever written. Too bad that half the words are censored. And not even just curse words. Sometimes the whole line.
@VelkanAngels

Yeah, they seemingly censored everything relating to suicide, in addition to all words that aren't considered polite... which makes no sense in a song where the suicide is a big aspect of the song's meaning. It's like taking Harry Potter and censoring everything magical. I'm so happy to have grown up in a country without censorship. We were "allowed" the full experience of things and if something was inappropriate for our age, we were just kept from it all-together. This isn't a children's song, so it makes no sense to censor it from adults to be child-friendly when the content itself is inherently not.
