The French are very sensitive and particular about their art and many Frenchman who reacted to Angelina's performance raved about her voice and artistic abilities and at the same time said the English translation left something to be desired. The song tells a story of artists whose devotion to bringing human emotion to people through art would never diminish even though the rewards they received were less evident then one would believe. That Angelina interpreted the meaning of the song and told the story so well and 'somehow' kept the melody going so smoothly despite lyrics that were piled so high it's hard to imagine anyone being able to do it, much less an 11 year old girl, wise beyond her years, Angelina Jordan.

As I explained in the description this was an attempt to reveal more of AJs nuanced voice control. The backing track is substantially reduced. I’ve done a few from this album in the same way. ‘Cry Me A River’ is one example.

Hi Britt 👋. That was an absolutely amazing reaction and comments to 11 Angie. I'm so glad you pointed out how difficult this song is to sing. Not many could pull it of, especially if they're 11 or if English is not there primarily 1st language. This is a French song from the mid 60s. You should really react to another song from Angelina. This song was written for Angelina "Song for A" by Nico Cartosio and is the only vocals on his album "Melting". She was 12 turning 13 when recorded in the studio. He really wanted Angelina's voice for the song. 😀👍❤ God bless you sweetie 🙏.

This is my favorite song by Ms Jordan. Yes, I have seen and heard the original many, many times over the years ( I'm 71 ), as well as many covers and translations. The snobs and purists all get to fondle their self-conceived sense of superiority by their haughty criticisms, but if you ignore the naysayers and listen to the *ART,* it’s beautiful, and transcends their little, narrow concepts about culture and meaning. *_True art always does._* Bravo to her, and bravo to YOU for your excellent reaction. I'm going to share it with my home Bible study group on Wednesday. I've shown them several of your reactions (but not any where you talk about “panty dropping”-unfortunately, those are ruined), and they agree that you are impressive for your age. The group has been going for almost 20 years now, and ranges in age from 17 to 71. Once again, thank you for sharing this with us!
@robertwhitney9084 Жыл бұрын
Some reasons why I like your reactions, especially the way you handle reactions to Angelina. One is you don't try to use adjectives to describe her, it doesn't take long to run out of words. But instead you paint word pictures from her performance that fit each unique song and performance and the pictures highlight her array and combination of skills and character. That enables you to react to her often without being repetitive or boring, and that in turn allows you to satisfy Angelina fans, which is not an easy task. And I bet many of them tune into your other videos more than to other reactors. By the way, what kinds of music are you familiar? I've been surprised by what you are not familiar with! 😉

You definitely should watch the practice video where Angelina sings this to her sister. Very refreshing. Someone left you the link. This performance is an example of Angelina choosing songs that test her in some manner, usually iconic, emotional, etc. (this one technical and with challenging lyrics and rhythm). She chooses this over and over to hone her craft. She is fearless.
@pietersbart Жыл бұрын
The original is by Charles Aznavour lyrics by Jacques Plante. Charles also released the versions in other languages such as English. It is about a painter looking back on his life in Paris Monmatre. La Boheme is simply someone from the Bohemen region. Many artists have sung this song as well and I don’t those well enough to figure out by whom Angelina is inspired the most here. But yes she sings this so beautifully and so nice to dream away while listening to her.
@reddevil3387 Жыл бұрын
La Boheme (French) translates to "The Bohemian" which at the time referred to free spirited, artsy people we would later call "beatniks" and "hippies". People who didn't follow convention, made their own rules, and lived the life they pleased.
@elmarwinkler6335 Жыл бұрын
Britt, Dear, this song is originally a French chanson, translated in English. The French have so beautifull songs (chansons). The story tells about the young and carefree artists, who never thought of the future. Angelina does this song and the artists before her (one is Charles Aznavour) justice and honor. Be safe and sound. Elmar from Germany.

Fantastic, smart comments on this rarely reviewed AJ song. Her soft straight tone in a movie type song can be heard in “Song for A” written for her specifically. You will not believe that a young girl could sing with the sound she exhibits.
@johnshea9526 Жыл бұрын
This why I'm so scared that the wrong people are going to try to make her sing the wrong kind of music like pop Stars we already have enough of them. She is something majorly different and needs to remain this way . Now I don't know what or if she wants to be a pop star but I believe that would be a great mistake. With her voice I believe everyone will enjoy it as is. I like some of the pop music but it's all the same and to much technology, dancers, lights, and instruments playing so loud you really can't hear the singer but it has a nice beat that is not music. She is the real deal as is. God bless
@JaapFilius Жыл бұрын
I am not really scared for that: Angelina has said herself in an interview that when there had not been Billie Holiday in the past, there would not have been a singer Angelina Jordan today. So, even when she probably will produce 'modern' music in the future she will also get on reviving this beautiful 'old school' music, including jazz/blues/soul, which we almost all had forgotten. And for me there is no doubt that her current label does recognize this unique chance to do just that.

This is one of the highlights from her album, It's Magic, guaranteed to raise a tear. Her voice has such strength yet is so sensitive, subtle and vulnerable. Nice one, Britt! By the way, in French the 'h' is silent, but it's a minor matter. I do recommend watching Charles Aznavour's performance of it. He wrote the music and does a neat enactment of the lyrics as he sings.

La Bohème is a song written by French lyricist Jacques Plante and Armenian-French musician Charles Aznavour. It is Aznavour's signature song, as well as one of the most popular French-language songs and a staple of French chanson. A painter, recalling his younger years in Montmartre, remembers his artistic life and the years when he was hungry but happy. According to Aznavour, this song is a farewell to the last days of bohemian Montmartre. He also recorded Italian, Spanish, English, and German versions, as well as a rare Portuguese recording. It was performed at virtually every one of his concerts. The song was first recorded by Aznavour in 1965. It became an international hit song.
