I have been waiting for you to check out Angelina! As you can already tell from just 2 videos, Angelina is a very special singer. "Singer" is not really a big enough word... I think "vocal artist" is more appropriate. If anyone here is seeing her for the fist time, I encourage you to search her name and take a dive down this rabbit hole. She has so much more to hear. This is a legend in the making. And I always try to leave this little bio for those just discovering Angelina, so that you can learn a little more about her background and her kind and caring soul....... *Angelina Jordan* - Angelina Jordan was born Jan 10 2006 in Oslo, Norway. She is currently 16 - She began singing at the age of one and a half - At 2 or 3 she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and started studying all the greats from Jazz history with youtube videos. - *Why Angelina always sings barefoot* - When Angelina was 6 years old, she was traveling with her grandmother and met a poor girl with no shoes trying to make money on the streets. They talked for a while and discussed their dreams. It was cold and the girl had scars on her feet. Seeing this, Angelina took off her shoes and gave them to the girl. The girl thanked her and told Angelina she would pray for her every day. That day Angelina made a vow to always sing barefoot until all the children of the world could have shoes. To this day, whenever Angelina is performing in public, she sings barefoot as a way to remember that little girl and to remind us that there are less fortunate people in the world that could use our help. Angelina holds so true to this promise that she has sung outdoors in Norway, in december... barefoot. She has sung at a dinner with ex-pres Obama... barefoot. She went on AGT (possibly the biggest stage in the world)...barefoot. She made a promise at 6 years old, and has stuck strong to it for years. That takes a special kind of person. - She has always been the driving force behind her own singing career. It was her that asked her mother to take her to Norways Got Talent, where she auditioned at 7 years old and went on to win the whole show at just 8 years old. - In an interview after the show, when asked what she was going to do with the prize money, the 8 year old replied, "I would like to give it to orphans that need clothes and shoes" - When Angelina was 9 years old she became the youngest published author in Norway, when she wrote a book about the story of why she doesn't wear shoes when she sings. She donated proceeds from the sales of the book to help children in need. - The reason you may not have heard of her is because her parents are very protective of her childhood. After she won NGT, they did not want her to be thrust into stardom before she had a chance to grow up as a normal child, and get her education. They allowed her to do a few select shows (mainly private and charity events) with a couple public shows every year when she is out of school. Her mother said in an interview that they have turned down 90% of the offers that came in. Over the years since NGT, they have turned down offers from many major record labels and even disney. - Angelina has covered more than 130 songs and over 65 artists in the last 6 years. She always selects the songs herself... everything ranging from old classic jazz to modern pop. She is able to change her voice to match any song she sings and make it her own. (she can cover Amy Winehouse and Lana del Rey like nobody else) - Angelina has collaborated with some very big names over the last few years... Quincy Jones, Mark Ronson, David Foster, Alan Walker and many more. All of which heard her and were blown away by her talent. - Angelina has written five of her own original songs: "What is Life", "Shield", "Oslo", "Million Miles", and 7th Heaven" (all are amazing...all can be found on youtube) In summary, Angelina Jordan is destined to be one of the greatest singers to have ever lived. This is just my opinion, but if you listen closely to any of her stuff you will hear the greatness. She sings with a natural style. There is no acting, no showing off, there are no unnecessary runs, or big belty notes just for the purpose of saying "hey look at me sing". She once said "when I sing I go into a beautiful world in my head", and you can always hear the results of that. When Angelina sings it is pure soul, pure emotion, pure music. - Updates: On Aug 26, 2020 Angelina's Manager/Uncle announced in an interview that they have decided on Republic Records as the best fit for Angelina and she is now signed with them as their "highest priority new artist". On Nov 6 she released her first single under Republic... "Million Miles"! On March 19 2021 Angelina released her latest single "7th Heaven" She has done so much already, but at 16 she is just getting started!!!

I discovered Angelina 4 years ago & can't stop listening to her. I have never seen anyone like her, she not only has total control of her instrument, she writes & arranges her own songs & she re-arranges classic, iconic songs (like this) to make them "new." But I think her "magic" is her emoting skills, that are unmatched, IMO. As many say, if you want to listen to good music there are many great singers, but if you want to feel good music, listen to Angelina. Liked & subed for more Angelina reactions.

Every time I hear Angelina sing covers in her own way, I come to the conclusion that she is channeling an old soul like Patsy Cline, etc. She is a gem and the world will be amazed by her talent and creativity. Your mind is now blown wide open because she did, in fact, do the arrangement for this performance! You know, she also had to consolidate the song into the time allotted for her to perform on a Talent Show. She chooses not to be a 'belter' and, instead, focuses on the soulfulness of her voice along with a hint of jazz and the blues. What you might want to listen to is her singing the Righteous Bros version of 'Unchained Melody' at, I believe 12 years old. Also. when she sings Whitney Houston songs she controls her 'belting' and doesn't want to harm her voice in any way. What's interesting is the way she does it, the listener still gets the full impact, the sensation of her voice at those moments. Her voice is magic and artistically she is, well, I'll let you describe it. (Many people in the trade suggest she is an artistic genius. She does play several instruments and when she does some of her rearrangements with a band she understands exactly what each instrument is capable of doing to make her arrangement what she wants. Btw, band members have been quoted as saying she is a pleasure to work with. Oh, since she was 8 years old!)

Welcome to Angelina's world. She is an extraordinary young artist with over 150 covers and other videos that she has recorded between the ages of 6 and 16 which is her current age. She won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8 and has already established herself as an accomplished Jazz artist. Her preferred genre is Jazz but she has done covers of about every genre you can name. Bohemian Rhapsody cover was the most mesmerizing performance I have ever seen on a talent show ❤️ I kinda lost interest in music a while ago, because it is so much bad out there... but this girl brought me back, I startet to feel music again and her talent and all the tools she has in her vocals is insane for a teenager ❤️ Her own song Million Miles, about her grandpa passing away is an emotional and amazing song which hit me right in the feels ❤️ Have a nice day 👍

Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on KZbin. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was considered a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. *Why Angelina always performs barefoot* At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. When asked what she would like to do with the prize money she won (500,000 kroner or about $80,000), Angelina replied, “I want to give it to the poor children”. Angelina had become a star in her native Norway and her videos on KZbin went viral. She gave a few concerts during the summer of 2014 while 8 years old. In December 2014, Angelina realized a life-long desire to sing at the Save the Children's Peace Prize Celebration which is part of the Noble Peace Prize celebration. Angelina’s family took her to United States, Brazil, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Russia, South Korea, Singapore among other corners of Earth, to perform for heads of state and to help raise money for charity. All before Angelina turned 14. At age 9, Angelina recorded a music video covering the 1956 Jay Hawkin’s classic, “I Put a Spell On You”. The video begins by showing Angelina writing her “wishes” for how she wants to perform the song. Angelina has always created her own arrangements for her cover songs. At age 10 and just a week before her 11th birthday, Angelina recorded a demo of “I’m Still Holding Out for You”. Her family never pursued having that recording officially released but someone leaked it on a KZbin video. Thankfully, everyone involved with that song is now ok with the leaked version. Many angels (fans) believe this is one of Angelina’s best performances. When Angelina was 11, she performed a number of concerts in Norway with a jazz/rock band. Those concerts included up to 14 songs, each remarkably performed. Angelina seems to be at her best when on stage, never nervous, only 100% confident. On June 27, 2018, at age 12, Jordan performed “Fly Me to the Moon” for Quincy Jones in The O2 Arena in London. She has said that was the high point of her young career which was already in it’s 6th year. During 2018, Angelina lost her paternal grandfather, her friend Avicii and one of her idols, Aretha Franklin. She did a moving tribute for each. In 2019, Angelina accepted an invitation to compete in the 2nd season of America’s Got Talent (AGT), The Champions. She had, since age 3, wanted to perform for Simon Cowell and she earned his praise with her genius arrangement of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter. Angelina was eliminated after covering Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT. Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on KZbin. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. On KZbin, search on The Complete Works of Angelina Jordan as Rusty Shackleford has put all songs in one file and has a complete playlist in the description of that video. The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Her family agreed to a contract with Republic Records in August 2020. Republic Records declared Angelina Jordan their highest priority new artist. Reportedly her family requested Republic to allow her as normal a childhood as possible and therefore have yet to fully promote her. During the pandemic, Angelina was often seen buying meals for the homeless on the streets of Los Angeles. In November 2020, Angelina released “Million Miles” which she wrote after the passing of her beloved maternal grandfather. She dedicated the song to anyone who has ever lost a loved one. Angelina had previously released, 3 other original songs: “What is Life”, “Oslo” and “Shield” In April 2021, her original “7th Heaven” was released. A jazzy, danceable, inspiring song. Angelina has posted numerous short performances on Tik Tok and Instagram. Angelina has concerts scheduled in Norway in July 2022. Personally, Angelina as a great human being and her music came into my life when I needed it most. Her music has improved the quality of my life more than I can express. I now introduce her to as many people as I can, with the hope her music will do the same for others. We know once her family believes the time is right and allows Republic Records to fully promote her, she will become the superstar she has always dreamt and believed she would be. As you noted she uses her voice to serve the music- if it calls for a full open belt, she does it, if a whisper, she does it. She never shows off or oversings anything. Same for every technique at her disposal. Her cover of Adele’s “All I Ask” has a little of what you’re looking for as does “Easy On Me”. She has a version of “I Have Nothing” with a lot of belting, but she was near the very top of her range at the time and was challenging herself. For some vocal pyrotechnics try “It’s A Man’s World” she sang at age 12. She has a lot out there from age 6 to 16 (and even something at 18months old!) For a jaw-dropping once in a life time masterpiece, try “I Put A Spell On You” - black and white version at age 9

Angelina did arrange this! In fact, Brian May reached out to her, to tell her how wonderful her version was, and gave her Queen's blessing, to copyright her arrangement. He also said that Freddie would have loved it! Angelina won Norway's Got talent in 2014, at the age of 7! Her B&W cover of 'I put a spell on you,at the age of 9 with Angelina doing her own arrangements, (since she was 7 years old) is just crazy. In the video, the page the gentleman is holding at the beginning, is actually her handwritten notes laying out what she expects from everyone. In studio, they playfully call her the "Little Boss". Only her grandmother is present, other than the studio crew. On the candle she holds up, is Screamin' Jay Hawkins. He wrote it, and performed it originally. Nina Simone later covered it. 😆💕 Angelina has sung barefoot, except for rehearsals, since age 6 in remembrance of an orphan girl near her age that she met on the street in the middle east. The girl was using bathroom scales and weighing people for money. It was cold, she was barefoot, and her feet were scarred. They chatted about their dreams, and she asked Angelina what her dream was. Of course, Angelina said she wanted to be a singer, and sing for the whole world, and asked the girl about her dream. The girl said she wanted to be a doctor, but that was not possible because she had siblings to care for, and she wished Angelina luck in becoming a singing star, and she told Angelina she would pray for her every day. Angelina, on the spot, gave her the sea green boots, her favorites, that she was wearing and told her to never give up on her dreams, called her a “princess” and that she would always remember her. Angelina wrote in her diary that day, “…to be able to do something for another human, it was such a big thing. Hard to describe really.” Angelina, at 9, became Norway's youngest author when she wrote a book about it, "Mellom to hjerter" ("Between Two Hearts"). Angelina promised herself never to wear shoes when performing again until there were no more children around the world without shoes, clothing, or family. In her book Angelina says, “In respect for you and all children like you, and that you prayed to God, today I walk barefoot on cold floors in front of so many people and sing. This book is for you little princess. You’re like sunshine! I remember and remember you every day.” Angelina has raised many millions of Euros and Dollars around the world performing at charity concerts since age 8. So, to this day, almost 9 years later, Angelina has always performed barefoot in public. NGT Judge Mia Gundersen called Angelia’s voice, “a gift from the universe.” To me, the true gift to us all is Angelina herself. From an interview with American Songwriter: As fans have come to know, Jordan likes to perform barefoot, in honor of a young girl she met when was 6 who didn’t have any shoes. Angelina is mainly a jazz singer and only belt when it suits the song. She is a storyteller. It seems like singing today is synonymous with belting. Every body does all the time. I can understand much of your analysis, since it is based on your first introduction to Angelina and only hearing a small sample of her work in these two songs. Many people are are tempted to dismiss Angelina as simply "parroting singing styles" without understanding that there is a huge difference between imitating a musical style and understanding the techniques, nuance, and characteristics of a musical genre in order to re-create it at will. The more you listen to Angleina's music, the more you will understand that this young artist could teach a master level class in vocal technique and performance. This was her own personal arrangement of Bohemian Rhapsody at the age of 13, which was acknowledged by the remaining members of Queen in a twitter post. They also granted Angelina the copywrite permissions for her unique version of their song so that she is free to record and release it under her own label, which she did.

I loved your reactions and insights to Angelina - as you can see from the comments you will have a lot to read and learn. One comment about belting. Angelina certainly can belt but she only does it when it fits her musical interpretation of the song. And in many cases, especially songs like these and tributes to artists and family members who have passed on, Angelina's belting is more of a painful, soulful plea or cry. In those cases I don't even hear a belt, rather, raw emotion.

Also I appreciate that you made the effort to react to Bohemian Rhapsody after that short TikTok of "Crazy" with just a cell phone! It's difficult for a vocal coach to react to Angelina because it's hard to find little things to criticize. She has been listening to and singing jazz since 3 years old and you will finds hints of jazz in many if not most of her performances. She has been arranging the songs she performs since her appearances on Norway's Got Talent and I can say that because there are many videos of her showing the musicians how she wants the song played. Angelina is a musical genius. In this arrangement of BR she needed to impress an American audience on AGT in only 2 minutes and in America runs, riffs and vibrato are highly regarded, hence this arrangement. Angelina usually only gives the song what is required to make the song the star, not her over use of unnecessary riffs and belting. Many singers can belt. Many singers can hit extraordinary high notes. Angelina can do both but only if the song requires it. It is rare to find an artist who can deliver a song that conveys the emotion to the listener and Angelina does that time and again. IMO, the best performance for a "newbie" is Angelina's 10 year old, on stage performance of the jazz classic "FEELING GOOD"with a great band. Keep in mind that this is her arrangement. Frank Sinatra's drummer, and sun in-law of the late Henry Mancini, Greg Field, and bass player, Chuck Berghofer accompanied AJ on her Christmas Show that aired Dec 23 of 21, and they stated that she had the "storytelling ability of the greats, Streisand, Fitzgerald, Vaughan, including Sinatra. The main pianist, a three-time Grammy Winner, Shelly Berg, stated in all his years working with the greatest vocalist, he had never encountered a talent like AJ. Did I forget to mention Jimmy Z, the famous Sax Player who worked with Rod Steward, Etta James, and the Eurythmics was part of the band for the show? Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. Well all this analysis for saying that she has a style of her own that’s all she has a wonderful voice for sure but restrained also by her voice she cannot sings all genre of music she can’t sing opera for example she does not have enough power in her voice and the high that goes with that style of music it’s just and example and that’s ok my point is that she is a wonderful singer but not an exceptional singer

Yes Angelina has been arranging her performances since she was 7. I have been following her for years and what is strange to me is when she was younger doing a lot of charitable events all over the world she took a tutor with her for school work but I’m not aware if she’s ever had a voice teacher other than when she was in school in Norway I’ve watched hundreds of videos of her including interviews and she never mentions a voice coach. An interesting fact English is her third language she is fluent in English, Norwegian, Farsi and Japanese she plays 4 instruments piano, guitar, flute and I can’t remember the other. She has performed all over the world for celebrities including royalty, prime ministers, former presidents. Has helped raise millions of Euros for charities. She has over 2 1/2 Billion views on Facebook and over 1 Billion on KZbin I guess she doing something right. At 16 now she is a well seasoned performer and will be around for a long time especially with her signing with Republic Records last year.

The answer to your astonishment of how she can play with her voice in such a way is simple, an enormous talent. And yes, she makes her own arrangements, changes lyrics, removes, adds, changes runs and belts, perfectly mimics the original singer's style, but making it her own, you'll even find reviews that say she improves it. This girl has astounded me with every new song she's released on her KZbin channels and social media. First of all because of her selection of songs to perform, secondly because of her musicality and the way she interprets some of the old _standards_ - songs you've heard thousands of times and by hundreds of artists, but never really listened to: _"yeah, it's that old song again",_ but Angelina adds that something special to them that makes them interesting. My third reason for this continuous astonishment is the way she's able to improve her voice from one month to the next, She's been on a steady incline since I heard her first time at as a 7-year-old. Who but Angelina could have arranged it. Immediately after broadcast, the surviving members of the band Queen tweeted out their approval of Angelina's rendition. They subsequently gave Angelina copyrights to her version of Bohemian Rhapsody. You can count on the fingers of one finger how often that has occurred in one of these talent competition. Simply a 2 minute and 9 second masterpiece. ... You hit the nail on the head in many of your other comments, "blues and jazzy style" (Angelina grew up soaking up jazz from birth thanks to her grandmothers love of the genre) Angelina won Norway's Got Talent (Norske Talenter) at age 8, auditioning at age 7, singing jazz. Check out her audition performing 'Gloomy Sunday.' She literally channels the spirit of Billie Holiday. She did her first studio performance at 6 and now has more than 160 songs on YT. First and foremost her love is jazz, soul and R&B but she can sing anything and ALWAYS makes her own arrangement of the song she is covering. She IS a prodigy without doubt but she is only 16 now and is still spreading her wings. I have seen over 100 performances from 6 to 16 and all of her originals and have yet to see a bad performance. Her musicality is off the charts and by the age of 12 she had already raised over 20 million for children's charities not to mention donating her winnings from Norway's Got Talent to a charity. She is truly a remarkable young woman as you will find in future reactions to her. Her recent version of My Funny Valentine she explores more of these little near trills. She’s taking more jazz liberties with her voice now. Its more of a studio sound w her experimenting with the direction of the video. I think-it shows the direction her adult voice is going. At six feet tall her physical capacity w a larger larynx n pharynx gives her a very broad pallet to choose from. Thanks for this, i hope you enjoy more of her. It’s been quite an experience watching her record from the age of six years old until now. It brings an unusual familiarity who she is as a singer whereas pop is more about the product. Having a few years of support and viewing for more than 140 videos build an audience unlike any other marketing tool ever has. Her fans have a deep emotional investment.

Linor, my darling, yes, Angelina arranged this version of the classic song. And, I listened to and appreciated everything you have been saying but I can see it's too early for you to understand you are listening to a master artist. Please enjoy listening to these two songs by yourself and see what happens. First of all, when people see her and hear her for the first time they are stunned by the poise and confidence she exhibits in front of an audience, particularly on a Talent Show! And then when people listen to her for the first time they are drawn in to where they almost become hypnotized! Their heads have no idea what is going on but their hearts knew immediately what was going on. Her soulful tones originate deep within her and her voice becomes pure love. And, Linor, this has been going on since she was 7 years old. What!? She was singing Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald songs at 7 and 8 years old. And, believe me, she didn't sound like a 7 or 8 year old kid. Anyway, I could go on for hours. You haven't heard about her yet because she hasn't been officially marketed to the world yet (family decision) but she has signed with Republic Records and they are adhering to the wishes of her family and are not rushing things. They understand who she is and what she will become and they are very patient waiting for her to finish her education and enjoy life as a teenager before she commits herself to her career full time. Yes, I know this must be on your mind: Her family is a beautiful loving family and has guided her wonderfully through these remarkable years of her life. In fact, Angelina is so appreciative she wrote a song called 'Shield' thanking them for all their love and help along the way.

For a first time listen she did very well and I tried to "nicely" tell her to hold onto her hat because she will begin to realize Angelina is at another level regardless of her age. And, I knew she would be concerned that perhaps, like so many other child phenoms Angelina would get eaten up by the industry and disappear.
