Im at minute 25 and still baffled by purple spots as 4th pick to settle all brick with no 3:1 or the brick 2:1. I think it would have been better to give up the 11 ore and go for 5/6/12 to secure brick port at least. Also , setling all best ore with no wheat and sheep feels brutal to just dump 3 ore on a 7 roll later. GG , at the end he finished last.

yeah it was an interesting pick by them. The way their game progressed they got close, i wonder if the free road to the brick port might have just been straight up better for them

I think a lot of people do honor their deals for long term reputation. I don’t have an idea of the percentage but my gut says it’s high

I’ve seen videos where someone has the win in hand but in their trade they agreed they would use the cards a certain way and they honor it by not taking the win. There was a great game davbav posted a while ago where a player had only one possible settlement spot (and all devs had been bought so no chance to pull a VP) many roads away from them, and they made a deal where another player would help them build roads to that settlement spot under the condition that they never take longest road. I believe at one point they had the win in hand with road (or had winning rolls can’t remember) but they didn’t break the deal

@@ddddddbingbong Some do and some don't, but not honoring deals is for sure something that happens in high level games, perhaps even more frequently. Personally, I believe that deals should be binding, but I'm probably in a minority opinion on that.

I should have specified that it’s obviously not a blanket statement. It’s part of the game to non bind. The pro scene isn’t susceptible to the same lack of consequences for non binding a rather straightforward or transactional deal as strangers on the internet playing each other.

@@catanace1741 I think it would be interesting to have deals be binding, in a way it’s just a slightly different game depending on if they are or aren’t. Would be cool to watch

20 mins in, no devs bought. Either due to the high level or to the board makeup. You've got what it takes to commentate, no pauses yet never any filler and always engagement. Snappy video title too. It must be difficult to not identify with one position, as per usual in a game, but continuously put yourself in the shoes of every on of the four players. They seem to be working in 2 teams (black and purple, the brick port alliance, and gold and white, the city boys), which i always thought was the natural setup in a catan game. If you team up and the other two stay solitary, your team will win a lot more than 50% of the time, and then you can fight it out among teammates for the win, and get an individual win rate of about half that 'a lot more than 50%'. You start out by saying the brick is superabundant. For brick standards, I agree, but there's only one more pip of brick on the board than of wood. Many commentators seem to assess such boards as plentiful on brick, but i've never understood why they don't say the same of the wood in cases where it has as many pips as an abundant brick board, since wood and brick are two exact sides of the same coin. As purple, i'd've taken the 5612 point to the brick port.

Good game! I think the most puzzling move is KellyC trading yellow to 9 points (and soon after the win) at 50:10. I'm curious what the voice chat behind that was.

I'm wondering if the dice went their way if they could have won on their turn with that trade. must have needed a 9 to roll, might have been a straight up gamble!

This was an interesting concept and would enjoy seeing more, but only if you were in the VC listening or they were communicating via chat. It was harder to watch as we were guessing on the deals. There is a lot going on that we are missing context of.
