As a casual painter of 1/700 and 1/3000 scale, the less the better! I used to paint 1/700 military vehicles with a medium green. Then dry brush in two lighter colors. Some details in a brighter color and done. It is a wonderful way to paint small scale!

Just a tip, using some jewelery crafting headsets (mega nerd glasses version if you like with swappable magnification lenses and built in LED lighting) is a good idea to look into - even GW folks use such things I gather and it's a must as you start to *cough* get a bit older and you no longer have the eagle vision you had as a 13 year old spass marine fanboi or girl.

Just a suggestion Ciara when you are painting smaller models you should affix them to popsicle sticks with just a tiny bit of white glue (non extra strength). That way you can hold the stick and get access to all the miniatures.

Exactly how I did it with my Space Marine (pre Epic 40K) Eldar; I still have some Fire Dragons and Guardians on the sticks, almost 30 years later.

GW actually produced multipart epic space marines at one point... Building them was a bit of a challenge. I've got a fairly large force from E:A for the Imperial Guard, all fully painted.

In my experience, 6mm scale (which is slightly smaller than this) is easier to paint already based. Applying a wash directly after the greyscale undercoat allows you to actually see the detail that's there - and with some models (such as landsknechts from Microworld), the detail goes as far as having room to paint eyes. Furthermore, most "people in power armour" at 6mm scale are about 8mm tall, and not 9.81mm tall, so these might look out of place with pre-existing manufacturers. Lastly, GW itself is not entirely sure about the scale they are using: the doors on their official buildings are 6mm high - while humans they now produced are around 8mm.

As you said, just not my thing. I'm only about the art when it comes to Warhammer. I never played a game of Warhammer and never wil be. I love the lore and the fact that I can bring a little piece of grey plastic to a almost lifelike piece of art (even when my work is far away from lifelike and I myself never whould call my ugly paint smearing art). This little ones have just to less details and possibilities for me to live out my creativity or bringing my skills to a new level. Thats also the reason I hate speedpaints. I don't want to make things easier, I want the hard way so I can aquire new skills and learn new stuff. Easy is not the way to learn things.

Yeah. Amateurs all. It makes me laugh too when these "veteran" players have their mind blown. The Dunning-Kreuger scale at it's best example!
@GreyhawkGrognard11 ай бұрын
@@giantlobsterboy644 Oh I wouldn't dismiss them as amateurs. But sticking with a single scale has its disadvantages, like this sort of "culture shock". Just wait 'till they get a load of Age of Sail minis, or 1:4800 ancient triremes and biremes! 🙂 I admit I find it really liberating to start painting 15mm figures after doing a batch of 6mm. It's like they're giants!

It is amusing when people think small scales are tiny. This is not small. This scale (10mm or 15mm) is the safe scale for gamers who are not used to smaller models. Contrast paints are awful. They created the same "marks" for whoever paints them. They are a tool on your workbench. I think the base cost and wash is far more aesthetically pleasing. Painting at smaller scales is less about details and more about embelleshing. You can fudge far more and still make a convincing model. Battle scarring and rust is easier to do. There is less surface area to cover. An effective composition is attainable more quickly. 28mm is all about the banners - faces - bases trinity. Smaller scales focuses on the overall appearance of the unit and story telling. You can add lots of cool details that are too complicated or involved at 28mm+ scales. This is a great introduction. One can easily paint this box over a long weekend. However, there is a fascinating world of modelling, kit bashing and playable dioramas to explore.
