But seriously though. No one thought to check for props? Or made sure she HAD one?
@Skittl1321 Жыл бұрын
I feel like If/Then had some weird problems. When I saw it, poor Idina started choking on oatmeal, right before she needed to sing. A water bottle slowly came up from the pit for her to get a drink, but she couldn't stop coughing, so the guy starts reading the paper to the audience, telling us about a sale at Macy's- "nope, sorry, this paper's a prop, that sale is way over" then finally calling over to her "You know, we are doing a show- are you ready yet?" But just like Sam said- the audience feels like it is such a "moment" to get to be a part of. And once she was able to clear the food out of her throat, man did she sound amazing. (That same week there was also a set fail at Matilda that took a 30+ minute reset, because they have to get all the kids off the stage if there is a malfunction, as opposed to something like Wicked where the adults just continue around the piece as though it had gone off stage like it was supposed to. The man who played Matilda's father came out and juggled to entertain the audience.) In retrospect, I've seen a lot of mistakes on broadway. Live theater is the best.

Speaking of theater fails, last year when I was in seventh grade, we did Into the Woods. (I was Jack’s Mother!) The girl playing the steward was supposed to say “shut up,” but she was so nervous that she accidentally said “shit up” instead. Our audience was about 95% kindergarteners.😂 That night we had another performance, and she was so determined not to mess up her line again that she kept repeating “shut up” over and over again. But when we got to the part where she was supposed to yell “stop!” from offstage, she yelled “shut up!” instead, which was funny. But then somebody told the girl's mother, and she got in trouble for saying “shit” in front of five-year-olds.

When my high school did Clue, on the last night our Wadsworth DROPPED THE GUN during the handoff, y'know, the thing that is the ENTIRE TWIST OF THE SHOW in center stage. And we're all just staring at him, like "wtf dude fix it fix it" and with blind panic in his eyes, he turns to the audience and goes, with all the finesse of a seasoned pro: "You didn't see that" and carries on like its NOTHING. It actually worked pretty well, because instead of being shocked at the "twist" that was spoiled, the audience felt like they were in on the joke.

My Mom was in the audience and she says a grandmother leaned over and asked super confused "What does a pineapple have anything to do with this?" In this scene the dad is showing Junie how to juggle and Junie is so impressed and tells her dad how amazing he is. But as you may of guessed my brother kept on messing up so I had to ad lib saying things like, “Wow daddy you’re… doing great!” (In a sarcastic voice.) Also at the end of the scene Junie tries juggling but messes up and says, “Maybe I need a little more practice.” But instead I said, “At least I’m better than daddy.” In a whisper type voice and my hand covering my mouth on the side my brother was on. Also later in the show Junie is writing in her journal and says, “Also dad got me a juggling book so I can learn how to juggle!” But instead I said, “Also dad got me a juggling book so I can ACTUALLY learn how to juggle.” All in all the audience had a great time and it was one of my proudest moments. My very first school musical was Mary Poppins JR. and I remember the fact that on the VERY LAST SHOW my voice was so destroyed that in my scene, while I was singing, my voice cracked to the point that I started bursting out laughing. I literally laughed all the way through the scene and had to finish my song in between my snickers because of how terrible my voice sounded. The fun part is right after, there was another scene with a different actor and they were CRYING LAUGHING as the curtains opened for the scene. The sad part is that no one was recording, so I have no physical evidence of it, lol. Another fun memory from this production is that I played the mother, Winifred, and the kid who played my son hit me with his kite EVERY TIME HE HELD IT. IT ALWAYS HIT ME IN THE FACE. I had a little theater mishap myself. So there was this summer children's theater program and in 2014 we performed "You're a Grand Old Flag" which is a jukebox musical for songs by George Cohan (Give My Regards to Broadway, Yankee Doodle Dandy). The story of this play involves the US constitution going on a national tour and at one of the stops, it is stolen by Bad guys, rendering the nation lawless. I was a deputy sherif. At one point my police uniform is stolen and I wear a Hawaiian shirt, pink sweatpants, and panther slippers. The mishap happened when we, the good guys, are chased off stage by the bad guys. Me and one of the bad guys are the last ones to leave and as I'm running my slippers slips off and goes flying behind me. I try to play it off as being a planned joke and I turn around to grab it. Little did I know the bad guy had grabbed it has he was still running full speed behind me and we slam right into each other. We are both dazed for a second but then he hands me my slipper, I tell him "thank you", and look up at him. Realizing who it is, I scream, turn around, and run off stage with the bad guy in tow.

During the scene after Nessarose gets crushed and the witches are fighting, Elphaba raises her hand to slap Glinda, Kristin pointed to her neck as if to say “you can’t hit me, I’m injured”. The audience went crazy. Don’t know if it was ad-libbed or if it was written in to accommodate the injury, but it worked

theatre (kinda) fail: in 7th grade, our class did a robin hood play. i was playing a minor character and was backstage, waiting to hear the line cue to go onstage with a few other classmates, one who was playing king richard. i believe one or two classmates that were supposed to deliver lines before king richard showed up forgot it, and for a moment there was just awkward silence. then, one of the classmates onstage improvs, “i wish king richard were here right now!” and our little entourage with king richard went on stage. it was towards the end, though, so it turned out okay. the whole class laughed about it afterwards, and apparently the parents watching didn’t really notice. side note: there was a scene where i was “jousting” with a classmate on stage with pool noodles and i almost tripped on my dress. good times.

One time I was in a play where my character had her hand wrapped due to an injury and she was a servant. I went to go serve something and my "wrap" got caught on my workstation. So, in pure improvisation, I just screamed in pain (not real), rewrapped my hand, met with the people who had called me over and just calmly, in character, said, "Sorry about that. What did you need?" Which was great, because my character was already basically comedic relief. Then, when the scene was over, I went backstage and my castmates came swarming asking if I was okay. They thought the scream was real, so that boosted my confidence in my acting!

It's honestly so funny that you say that with kids (or actors in general) you either don't care or you never forget. I still remember my first on stage theatre fail in detail and it's been 15 years by now. There was nothing I could do, but I remember it so vividly (lighting and music failed and we just had to deal with it in a scene with only kids on stage). That did teach me the importance of improv and I made sure that I could account for anything and everything from that moment on if things do go wrong. Luckily it rarely happened that I needed it and with getting a muscle disease I likely won't need it again, as my body just no longer can keep up with theatre demands. I'll never forget my first theatre fail, though (nor what theatre gave me).

during the closing night of my senior show i was sitting on a piano bench, in front of a fake piano, while wearing a hoop skirt (the platform was barely wider than the piano bench). about 30 seconds into the song i had to get up and start dancing. since i couldn’t sit properly the hoop skirt was bent weird. when i stood up and walked forward the skirt got stuck in the bench and the bench fell on my ankle. i looked at my scene partner and we finished the scene. she later told me that if i had laughed or even giggled she wouldn’t have been able to finish the scene without laughing through it (we’ve been friends since preschool so it was a “i’m going to laugh then ask if you’re ok” situation). not only did i finish the scene while in some pain and not laughing. i also had to run to the other side of the stage, down a flight of stairs back stage and make my quick change, then get back onstage. definitely hurt. definitely bruised. and no one recorded it. show was Little Women btw

I don't know if this counts as a fail but last year my school was doing The Lion King and the drama teacher had created her own choreography for The Circle Of Life and we had been practicing it for months. On the day of the performance I was so stressed out that my brain totally blanked and I couldn't remember the choreography. The teacher had taught us all the same moves so it was obvious that I had forgotten it, so while everyone else was doing the dance I was doing these really awkward movements just trying to copy them. I was so freaking embarrassed.

Once when I was doing a small production at my local theatre camp, we were all supposed to run backstage, and I ran onstage and sat there for a good minute till I saw a castmate waving me back. Was so embarrassed 😭

I was recently in my first ever musical. (A seventh grade production of Moana jr.) I was cast only in ensemble (at first, then the original Sina had a dance comp on the second and last day of the musical) and I think the only parts everyone messed up on was Moana and Maui saying dude while improvising Maui’s grass skirt falling constantly Our Pua and Hei Hei actually falling off the boat Mauis voice cracks in the “Chee-hoos” Me constantly tripping over my dress because im 5 feet tall, original Sina is 5’6 Me and Chief Tui fighting over the mic, which we were instructed to do (we almost dropped it) And the almighty, the mithic bitch: EVRYBODY LOSING THEIR SHIT AT GRAMMA TALAS FUNERAL

I have a couple of theatre mess up stories myself. So my first production on like a real stage outside of school was A Midsummer Night's Dream. I played Philostrate, who, if you know the show, only comes in at the end of the show. So at the time my director had added 7 different dance numbers to the show to keep it entertaining. However, we spent so long in rehearsals working on the dance numbers and cleaning them that never made it all the way to the end of the show, where my character was had this long monologue. I got to run my part 3 times and that was during tech week. So , here's where I made a mistake. Like I said, this was my first show outside of school so I was already anxious AF. So we get through the first act without a problem and now we're nearing the end of the show where i'm supposed to deliver my line. We get going in the scene and my mind goes completely blank. SO trying to save it, I improvised the line "You see my lord. It's so bad, I can't even explain it." I think my brain just stopped working after that because I don't even remember saying any of my lines after that. 😂😂😂 The second time I messed up was in a production of the Wizard of Oz. I was in tap shoes because during the song Merry Ole Land of Oz, we had a little tap section I was apart of. SO in some of the choreography. before we got to that section there was a part where we had to do a three step turn while moving around this turn table that we were using. I get downstage center, go to do the turn and slip and fall right in front of the mayor of Plano. I live in Plano and the mayor actually lives in my neighborhood so I knew him. I had sold him Girl Scout cookies many times. Luckily I didn't hurt myself because this was also the show where I found out I had to have ankle surgery to repair damage from a pervious injury, but it was really, really embarrassing. And it was closing night so I didn't have a chance to redeem myself. It was the same director for both of these as well.😂😂😂

I have photographic evidence of one of my friends theatre fails. We were in our high schools production of The Music Man. He played Marcellus and in the middle of Shipoopi the choreo had them doing jump splits. This was the third night so his pants had gone through numerous jump splits but that night was the final straw. He went up for the jump split got half way through it and his legs snapped closed instantly. I was confused but still dancing around. When I chanced a peek, his trousers had split from ZIPPER TO BELT all the way. Now there is a part at the end where one of the girls jumps into his arms and he spins her around and his bright idea was to have HER catch HIM and swing him around. Unfortunately (or fortunately if he thought of it as a funny gag) that resulted in him flashing his lovely flamingo boxers to the ENTIRE crowd. 🤣

I mean the Pinocchio one, the fall of the nose, comedically seems intentional, I know it is not but it is too perfect. The timing of the fall to the slide whistle is *chef kiss*

Literally last week the media wall in our production of she kills monsters, went out during the show. The guy playing chuck improvised and created the pictures that were on the screen, and it was the funniest thing ever. The entire cast was trying their hardest not to laugh. 😂

I don't have a clip of it, but during my senior year of high school I was in my school's production of Saturday Night Fever. And on the last day, I was going down the stairs and onto the stage when I tripped on the stairs, fell down, lost one of my shoes, and scraped my knee a little bit. most embarrassing theatre moment for me

Great haircut, Ryan. Your Pinocchio therapy improv really made me think of and old times actors like Carey Grant or Humphrey Bogart. Great stuff! Your hair looks great too, Sam! Love the CB shirt! What show was the last clip from?

This is what live theatre is all about! Thank you both so much for another great video! I wonder... would you do a reaction video to Ryan's appearance as the Mad Hatter in Whitney Avalon's Dorothy vs Alice Princess Rap Battle? Maybe also include some Rap battles from EPIC RAP BATTLES OF HISTORY and see if you agree on who wins!!!! ? Can't wait to binge more of your videos soon!

I know a great, " The Show Must go on" Moment my Drama teacher told us, she knew someone doing a play and he did this thing with his leg in a dance number and he accidently broke his leg. He finished the song and when he got offstage, he went to the hospital immediately.

you talking about funding reminded me, so we had a really good workshop for the crew at my school but the canhging rooms for the cast were actual english classrooms above the theatre, so if the cast was up there being load during the show you could hear it fully from the theatre

As for the no fly system point Ryan made, I totally agree. My middle school once did Peter Pan and instead of having a fly system we had some high school boys dress in all black and lift the darlings and peter up. It actually looked rlly good.

Theatre fail story time, During a middle school production of a random play that I have long forgotten the name we all burst out in thunderous unstoppable laughter. My friend who was playing a family member said something about "oh, he's your fiancé😉" we all had trouble not laughing at this part but it just happened to be on stage. Wasn't too bad thankfully and we got our voices back, just took a little bit. Not to mention my line was next. Thanks for listennng

I (stage manager) this was a highschool play, an actor had a sizure just on stage, not currently in the scene, then about a few min later walked on stage and had a worderfull preformance. also they were on scafoling at the time on the sizure witch made in more scare on our end. same show, lights died and we lost all light cues for the second half and had to improv cues from memory.

My first play ever was last semester (I’m in college), and it was called Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom. Very interesting show. I was playing two characters, both moms, and one of them was named Joy. She gets beaten to death with a claw hammer by her son. Loved that scene. But… I had to stage fall with no experience. One time, my scene partner pushed me a little too hard (I had asked him to give me a slight shove to make the fall more realistic) and I ended up really hurting my arm. It hurt so bad to move it. And I still have two shows to do after that! We think it was just bad internal bruising or maybe even a small fracture, but it took some work to get through. Still really fun first show, though!

So in 1st grade I played a narwhal in a play. I had been sick with pneumonia the previous two weeks and was cleared well enough to do the play, but they hadn't sent the home nurse to remove my IV yet. So I literally was just up on stage in this elementary school preformance with my paper maché narwhal costume and an IV. Yes, I had lines.

In a production of School of Rock that my friends did there was no chalk for the scene where he writes his name on the board and so the guy playing Dewey licked his fingers and tried to use his saliva and continued even through the lightsaber scene. There was also a scene where because they played all the instruments live he just could not get the right notes and the boy playing Zack turned to him and said “do you need a tuner Mr Schneebly?” It was the best 😂

I was in my VERY FIRST stage production( it was Lost in Yonkers) and one actor was supposed to go briefly offstage to get me a glass, but didn’t place the prop, so me and another actor had to ad lib while we waited on stage. I hated every minute of it

I was a kid when two things happened to me - thankfully the first was in rehearsal. One of the spotlights shattered and rained glass down on me and another girl, and we were wearing ballet shoes and in a pose, so over the god mic you just heard “DONT. MOVE.” And they got some of the dads with work boots on to move us off stage by hooking us under the arms and lifting us whilst still in position, as if we moved we could have cut ourselves. Had to stay perfectly still for about 20 mins whilst people picked me clean! 2nd was on stage, Jack and the giant beanstalk, his mum grabs the beans (about and inch and a half long, made of papier mache and painted so basically like rocks) throws them off stage, except one hit a prop, slid up it, and shot straight into face at high speed. It was a panto, so the poor teen playing the mum was so mortified he’d hurt me, since I was bleeding everywhere!

This past summer I was in my community theaters production of Big Fish. And closing night we get news that our lead was in the ER cause he was fishing and ended up with a fish hook in his leg. He got through the show on painkillers and no one could tell at all.

I remember forgetting a prop on stage The thing is that one prop was like a part of my charater, a part of my costume and we fixed it by my friend saying "Isn't that your horse" I will never forget that.
