@Rude_i_Wredne5 жыл бұрын
Most of these are clearly reached with connected voice - thus belted (since belting means dragging the register higher than it normally wants to be - so in this case beyond the flip-to-falsetto point). Those which aren't in my opinion are: Alfie Boe's B4 - it's a beautiful operatic tone, but it feels like it was reached via shaping a very resonant falsetto. Matthew James Thomas C5 - classic example of a decent attempt to fake belting sound with reinforced falsetto. Lucas Steele's C#5 - it's so obvious reinforced falsetto. He tries to cover it up a bit with distortion, but he needs completely different shape for it to sound anywhere close. Josh Young's D5 on "please" - first and second D5's are belted, but this one has too painful of a consonant-vowel combo to be beltable that high (especially for Josh, since he has a baritone voice), I've never seen anyone belting this note and Josh is no exception - he reaches it with reinforced falsetto. Lucas Steele's E5 - I'm not completely sure with this one, since he starts the phrase with reinforced falsetto-like tone and ends in a belting quality. However him using reinforced falsetto to hit the highest notes from that riff is a pretty valid explanation of what's going on there.

@RedSpecial965 жыл бұрын
@@goodjobeli being a soprano doesn't necessarily mean being able to hit those higher notes. I just found out that I'm a tenor and I can barely hit an A4. My voice starts to get really loud around F4 and although I can hit a C2 (not fry), it does not make me a bass, not even baritone because I sound quiet in those lower ranges. Me not being able to hit a high C just means I don't have enough training. And you might not even be a contralto. Most singers think they are of a lower voice type. You gotta realize that basses and contraltos are really rare
@m13laball5 жыл бұрын
RedSpecial96 I love your comment! I’m a bass and before vocal training I could barely belt a Middle C (C4). Now I can get up to an F#4. The sad part is I’ve worked with SO many “basses” who are actually at the very least baritenors who don’t realize that they have the high notes in them.
@RedSpecial965 жыл бұрын
@@m13laball I think people get confused because of the voice classification system. That system is way too old to be relevant and it's used for choirs. I always thought that I was a baritone because of that system. How long have you been training if I may ask?
@m13laball5 жыл бұрын
@@RedSpecial96 Four years in a college setting. Voice classification systems truly have been confusing in my experience. For example, in a choral setting, I was shoved into the tenor section in high school because my voice wasn't "loud" in my lower range, but consequently, that meant I was singing predominantly falsetto because I couldn't sing higher than a middle C. Stepping into the musical theatre world, I've usually been a bass because in shows like Evita, my lower range actually stood out down in second octave. When I sing classical, I'm always given bass-baritone pieces; my voice teacher aiming to bring out that operatic quality in the fourth octave to make it easier for me to handle higher musical theatre roles (for example, now I'm in Rent, and the bass parts hover around the C4-F4 region). Then there's a lot of myths around voice classification and whether or not it's focused on how low you can go, or how high you are comfortable.

Plus the placement of "burg" is really awkward
@rebeccajay28175 жыл бұрын
Joseph Johnson It also depends on the vowel you place it on. He doesn't sing it on a pure vowel, making it a lot harder. Whereas a lot of other singers have chosen to place that held "burg" on more of an "ah" vowel, making it easier.
@anarchoshaggy-ism39255 жыл бұрын
Not really. In this video he briefly hits a B4 at 1:28. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2ndhHWXoblnecU And regularly for like events and things he sings "Goodbye" from catch me if you can which has a sustained Bb4.

Rebecca Jay that song is just impossible to sing because that last note comes out of nowhere. Speaking from experience lol

It’s amazing how different one note can sound from vocalist to vocalist. It’s all about how they treat it. Take the F#4: there’s Andrew Ranells hitting it at 2:50, vs Will Chace after him, vs Colm Wilkinson after that. They sound SO different - the first sounds fun but not phenomenal of emotional, mostly because it’s an “ee”. The Will Chase one at 3:05 is climactic, huge, and chill-inducing because of how it’s supported. The third with Colm at 3:12 is so sorrowful and soft despite how well it’s supported, which gives it emotional weight (perfect control). Amazing difference.
