What always stood out to me about Billy Jack was the social messages in his movies. Here he was a Dude with an explosive temper hanging out with pacifists. Like Billy said “I tried, I really did.” To accept the turn the other cheek method but he’d never just stand by and let people get victimized. Billy was the guy who would Womp Bullies and protect children, and maybe even have to kill a rapist. Billy Jack was like a Super hero of the highest order!

My guardian didn't want me to see "those hippy movies." So I snuck to go see it. These Movies had such a profound affect on me. I so wanted to make a freedom school. I tried to make one but couldn't do it. I found other ways to realize my conviction to carry on that idea of setting kids free of mind. In my own way I carried on their legacy, and "my kids" blossomed, learned to think and stand up for themselves and what they understood was right. They are one of my greatest accomplishments in this world and some of my greatest treasures. I know many others were moved to do the same. I have often wondered how big of ripples we all put in the pond of life because of Billy Jack movies!

The Billy Jack movies came out when I was in those awkward high school years and they changed my life. I had always tried to follow the doctrine of, “What Would Billy Jack Do?” And that had a lot to do with my growth as a person. To be fair though, the title of this clip should be “Billy Jack and Bong Soo Han to the Rescue.” Master Han stunt doubled for all the complex Hapkido kicks in the films. His technique was amazing, and he helped to make Billy Jack the bad ass that he was!

Sad day when Tom passed. I remember at 16 yrs old seeing the first Billy Jack, low budget film became a classic. Still watch it occassionally on the old vhs tape I have of it. The first movie was the best. Recently visited Prescott AZ where it was filmed, the court house area it was filmed still looks the same.

Actually the first Billy Jack movie was "Born Losers" where Billy takes on a motorcycle gang. You can get "Born Losers" "Billy Jack" "The Trial Of Billy Jack" & "Billy Jack Goes To Washington" all on dvd in one set. I have mine, & these movies REALLY hit home for me, as I myself am Native American & my sister is full Cherokee, & my mom was a full Shawnee. These movies weren't so much about race as they were about how the white man broke most if not all the treaty's they signed & they took away what WAS Indian land. But it was through the "Billy Jack" movies that got me to take an interest in not just the martial arts but Hapkido the same kind that was used in the "Billy Jack" movies.

WAYYYYYY back when. Mr Laughlin inspired me to study karate.. here we are in 2016.. and Im still training.. My school celebrated its 25th year in jan of 2016.. Now I dont know about you.. but I think things in this world have gotten worse.. Today I truly believe that in studying the martial arts.. we come to understand the potential we all have for violence and how to control it and how to be confident human beings in such a way that we all get along.. For me.. the Billy Jack series was the first encounters I saw as martial arts movies.. and I still love a good martial arts movie with a hero like him.. RIP Mr. Laughlin.. many thanks.

I remember seeing Billy Jack in a theater a year or two after I got out of the Army in 1970. The song from the movie "One Tin Soldier" got some airplay on radio at the time. I later saw one of his earlier films "Born Losers" which was a good film.
