Greetings and welcome back. It's a new year so let's do the checklist: 1. Health update - sounded boring which is good in medical matters (hope it stays that way) 2. Commissioned job - worked to get a mate out of trouble, excellent 3. Chips - suitable amount of metal sacrificed while extracting those part from stock, nice threads 4. Coolant - present and flowing well 5. Mistakes/complications - just enough for keeping the narrative interesting All up - well done, and carry on. Thanks 😉

G'day Matty, and Happy New Year to you and Becs. There's nothing wrong with the video! Plan B worked out ok mate, and it should do the job as you say for a good while. With that trouble with the trapezoidal thread, I would try a trick that I've done before is to grind up a parallel or just slightly tapered at no more than 20 degrees included, (and having a back rake on it so it will cut well) tool just under the tip width of the trapezoidal one and try running that through the bronze to just under full depth, then centre the trapezoidal tool in the groove and then try running it through to full depth. That gives it a lot better chance not to deflect so much as there's a lot less material to try to remove. I sincerely hope you get good news from your recent PET scan in the next few weeks mate. Cheers from England, Sam

Enjoyed the video Matty - another good result. An alternative that might have worked for the lead screw is a square thread. It is stronger and more wear resistant than a 60 degree thread form and the cutting tool is easier to grind than for an Acme thread. I had to make one when restoring my T&C grinder and it worked out ok - after I realised that the required thread pitch was 10TPI and not 2.5mm (they are very close)... Cheers.

Thanks for sharing this project with us! As usual for you, the result is outstanding, even with the material limitations and the threading setback. I don't know about everyone else, but I am always amazed at the finishes you achieve on your work. I must be some kind of idiot. Try as I might, I don't seem to be able to make anything that looks nearly as nice as your work. Would you consider making a video sharing what you do (and don't do) to turn out these first-class finishes? Materials, tool choices, feeds, speeds - Can you tell us about the magic you use?
