Love tip #1. I fully believe that taking ballet classes as an adult cured my balance problems that stemmed from an inner ear infection. It was rough at first, but now I'm used to being dizzy and my body has adapted to that feeling.

So true, the way we learn as adults is so different to the way we learn as children, and if we don't find the right teachers and support we might never learn ballet as adults... Learning to count music and choreography basics with you in class, was a life changer for me... I still remember before that, when I thought ballet teachers counted 5-6-7-8 just because... After, I suddenly started to be able to follow barre and center combos... And it's helped tremendously with artistry...💙💙💙

So much good advice here! In just one class on Friday I had to make myself be ok with dizziness, not let myself get distracted by my mistakes (or by the fact that the kids didn't seem to care that they were making so many mistakes), and not give up because of Pirouettes! I was exposed to / immersed in lots of types of music as a child (singing, informal dancing, playing an instrument), so that's the only one I haven't struggled with and in fact I would say I excel there. Oh and even as an adult I'm more inclined to move quickly than slowly, so not as much of a struggle for me there either :-D This was very useful for seeing myself and my dance journey even clearer! I'm gonna re-watch it right now!

Wonderful, Tammy! What a great example of all of these things in class. Also, that childhood musical background REALLY comes in handy when you do have it! I played instruments as a child too, and just started singing lessons for the first time a few weeks ago :) Keep dancing, and keep having fun! :)

I started dancing a little over three years ago, at age 41, shuffling, swing, house, popping, ballet, etc. This video just perfectly sums up everything I want to say to those who say "am I too old to dance" or "I could never be a dancer". The only thing that is missing is the people who say they can't dance because they don't have a "dancer's body". I'm bookmarking this and sending the link to all these people I encounter who think that they can't.

To be honest I already had this problems when I was a child. But as an adult, I feel I am more able to fix all of this. I know myself better, and I understand better what's going on. The things I have to take care of, as an 40 years adult dancer is the pain I feel while springing, the increasing probability of injuries and the fact that my weight icreased. I know, everyone should be able to dance whatever body they have, but in my case I feel it's not easy to progress ; anyway I need more strenght to move my body :). But anyway I am very happy to be able to dance as an adult. The thing is that we need to have special teachers. Because we cannot do the same things as a child does : a child needs to be told that a "tour attitude" is not correct if the back leg is not perpandicular, but few adults are able to do it. So if they are told that they have to stay beginner forever because of things they cannot change, it can be very discouraging. But I had the chance to find good teacher :), and this youtube channel. Also, I had to stop working on my turn out because of my knees. And since I am accepting to be more "en-dedans" I have more strenght. But it's still hard to face the reality that my moves are not perfect, are not correct, that what I'm doing cannot be true classical ballet :). Have a good day and thank you for your channel !

I'm so glad to hear that you've found a good supportive teacher. There is a challenge with leveling adult dancers, where we are often ready for higher levels before our body will achieve the "perfect" positions. But, often levels can be tied to perfect turnout. So it's really important to find an environment that understands and supports adult dancers!
