Broke down for 4hrs…Are sign on bonuses red flags 🚩 in trucking?

In today’s video, I’ll be sharing with you guys how my week started out with a break down. Break downs are never fun but unfortunately it’s apart of trucking. I’m also curious to know whether or not you guys think sign on bonuses are red flags in trucking?

Any breakdown is horrible but the worse is when you have completed your route and now you can’t get back to the yard and I’m speaking from experience 😂. I think a sign on bonus is good for recruitment and doesn’t necessarily mean the company is a “horrible” company looking to hire quickly but to express gratitude and retain drivers at least long enough to get fully staffed. Turnover is trucking is going to always be high so why not position yourself to beef up the staffing even it does mean paying out a bonus, although not every driver stays long enough to get the full bonus. Over ride engine shutdown button in the cascadia resets your 60 seconds.

With the serpentine belt snapping it was best to shut it down asap anyway to avoid further damage. Appreciate the info though.

From my experiences, companies use the sign on bonuses due to high turnover/ candidates backing out of the offer. 2 years ago i was hired with a union LTL carrier for a city position, however in the interview the Terminal Manager told me I'd also have to work linehaul (at night) and some times be on call or dont work at all due to me having no seniority "but the sign on bonus should hold you over" they said.. long story short i declined the offer due to the instability.

Sign on bonus with great pay is a good thing but usually it's mostly the opposite!! Its made to keep you longer!! Focus on great pay only!! When applying to a job ! Because it's guaranteed from the beginning! Instead of having your money hostage!!!!

Domino’s is sweet now with the new system. They got going on how to load the trucks we no longer have to build our stack anymore. Each store has cages built with their product in them. Compared to other food services it’s like pallet drops. Hardest part is picking up empty’s

Man I trying to get into dominos in crown point Indiana, but they never hiring it's kind of what I do now driving for panera bread delivering fresh dough. But they are about to end that division of the company in favor of frozen dough, I need the plug help a brother out😅

I used to believe that sign on bonuses were a bad sign. My current company has been pretty good and I've been with them for going on 3 years. So it depends on the company. Just do your research.

If it’s just a sensor. You can press the override button till you get to a nearby shop. It’ll keep resetting the 60sec timer.

Man I hate to hear that you broke down again. There’s nothing worse than that especially when you have a good day going. I work for Eagle Transport Corporation up here in Tennessee and we run the same tractors as y’all do and they’re constantly breaking down on us. The one I drive is a 2017 Cascadia and it’s went down twice in less than a week. To the sign on bonus it’s been my experience up here that if a company is offering one there’s usually a bad reason. More often than not there’s been something wrong with the position or the company itself. I had a phone interview with Linde the other day for a local cytogenetic driver, and it had a $10k sign on bonus. The interviewer was awesome and was upfront about the bonus. The reason for theirs was the schedule was not the greatest and they was wanting someone like me with several years of tanker experience.

Yeah man, it’s crazy. That’s a nice sign on bonus with Linde. It sounds like a valid reason in my opinion. An undesirable shift is definitely another reason why a company would offer an incentive.

I just came to Us foods after one year OTR. They offered me 15k sign on bonus. They started me with $30/h ot after 40. Up here in Minnesota I have to bump stairs starting out. Bonus is nice but they do spread it out over two year period which is a bit long.

I swear breakdowns always happen when you're or early, or after you knock out one or two stops. That's why I'm glad I don't drive OTR. Some of those guys are stuck all day on a shoulder.

According to the gfs.com/careers website. It states that depending on the volume of applications, an invitation may come within a day or up to two weeks. Applicants applying early get their attention first.

Was he PFG or PFG Customized? Our drop yard covers pretty much the same routes you are on. Both your old route and your new route. I layover right across the street from your 4th stop on Mondays.
