I spent 10 months solo on my first trip to SEA. 6 months Thailand, 2.5 months Cambodia, a month in Laos, 3 weeks Taiwan. Magic start to finish. Just returned 2 weeks ago from another trip to Taiwan, Cambodia and Thailand. I've spent over 5 months in Cambodia in past 2 years. Mostly in Phnom Penh. Traveling solo is the way to go. Alot of power in leaping into the void alone.

I can't wait for Part 2. Had my doubts if I could sit out this one having trouble with his accent but Richard is a great story teller and very self aware and honest to himself which makes it fun to listen apart from being interested in the story. 👌

Be careful, know yourself, have a plan, know your limits, exit when obviously necessary. I've had similar experiences. Trust me, you do NOT want to lose your health or your life abroad.

I like this guy, very honest and can identify with him. Reminded me of my first trip to Asia in 98. Make the most of every moment, get chatting to the locals, have adventure! Part 2 , I’m looking forward to it

I've travelled around Thailand for afew years now, in the beginning of my travels I always went with friends, but I soon realised that the best way to travel, is to travel alone, made so many plans with others in the past, but things and thoughts can change on quite literally afew minutes, at least travelling alone you can think about yourself , without having to think about anyone else, now afew years down the line I wouldn't travel again with anyone. Great story , enjoyed this video

Good interview (you seem to have the best interviewer technique Pete where you have guests who just talk without your lead). Looking forward to part 2.

Fascinating interview. I love Cambodia and can't wait to move there full time but I'm not brave enough to do it without a financial safety net. I lived in SIhanoukville for a while from 2015 to 2018 and left during the Chinese invasion. I'll be back. I can't wait for Part 2

Interesting interview. Travelled alone for 2 years through Britain, Europe, Russia, Middle East and Asia. Visited 30 countries and hooked up with many other like minded travellers along the journey. I'd imagine arranging to meet someone I didn't know at all to travel with would make it very difficult.

Why would he not know that most likely the main reason none of the many schools to which he applied for a teaching position was his lack of even a HS degree, and no college degree, either.
