"There is no catch".... There is always a catch and with this the catch is they are guide prices which means they are gong to auction and they put a stupidly low guide price to gather interest... If you look at sold prices for Elizabeth Street in Goldthorpe what you actually find is they are £35-50k, still very cheap but not £15-20k, the ones that are £5k will need £20-30k in renovations which will after they are renovated will be worth about what you put into it which is why there are so many.. It is a good example though that there are cheap houses available but not quite as cheap as this video makes out..

I'm from a town in the County Durham coalfield (Washington)..... When I first started primary school, there was 4 pits in the town. F-Pit, Usworth Colliery, the Glebe Pit, where me dad worked, and Harraton Colliery. By the time I left school, 11 years later, THERE WAS NONE..... Oh, BTW.... The Tories closed one, and LABOUR CLOSED THREE. So let's not get carried away with the lazy 'Maggie closed all the pits' tropes. Harold Wilson (Labour), in one parliament, closed more than twice as Maggie did in 3 parliaments. (And I'm not a Tory, Reform all the way for me).

@edwardoleyba3075Ай бұрын
Yes, it’s a great shame that the country couldn’t produce coal cost effectively. It became cheaper to import it from Poland. It was a salient message about government trying to run industries. When it became cheaper to import coal that was the death knell for the pits. I’m given to understand that there is 400 years worth of coal still under our feet! If this mad dash for nett zero goes awry we may need that resource, as well as the oil and gas in the North Sea, but at what cost? We’re already importing oil and gas anyway, so all we’ve achieved so far is to move the CO2 emissions abroad. Still, at least the Environment Secretary can say; “it wasn’t us”. How lovely. Meanwhile we’re going to spend billions on short term solutions, and on equipment that is environmentally unfriendly, has a finite lifespan, is produced in countries that are pumping out most of the world’s carbon but, Hey - it wasn’t us!

@radoslawjocz2976Ай бұрын
@AbroadYorkshire I was glad that two buildings in town centre was knocked in last couple of years including Goldthrope Hotel and the other one was near the library. But regarding the new houses this Iris development is crazy expensive and gardens are very small and proximity to the road. Barnburgh View and Bella Wood View are better and cheaper. Margaret Thatcher deserved respect but I do understand people frustration, this place was neglected for many years. There will be new industrial estate too near the new roundabout.
@AbroadYorkshireАй бұрын
@@radoslawjocz2976 yeah, they knocked down the Horse and Groom pub opposite the Police Station and its like a little park type thing now with benches etc, the little market stalls set up there a couple of times a week. Quite nice.

As a dual citizen of both the UK (by descent) and Canada (by birth), I'll say "thanks, but no thanks." You couldn't pay me enough to live in the UK. Even if the house was free and you offered me £500k to live there, I still wouldn't move. I value my freedom too much to be able to say (and write) what I want to say online whenever I want to say it. I don't like the idea of being locked up just for speaking the truth online. Britain has gone full Hitler/Stalin (take your pick - they're both cut from the same Far Left cloth). The high taxes, high inflation, terrible weather -- no thanks! Don't get me wrong ... I don't live in Canada either. I love in a tropical country where I can express myself freely online without the threat of being thrown in jail because of it.

I was raised in Goldthorpe up to been about 7, and my mother is from there too. From Jackson street. Back in her day in the 50s 60s and 70s she didn't consider it to be rough. Its only post 80s when its taken a tumble. Honestly, great community though. Ive still got memories of how fantastic some of the people are from the area. In one sense, its a shame they are regenerating because new builds have no character. They take the personality out of a place

Spent a lot of my youth in Goldthorpe(Nora St.) where my Nan nan lived, was always a vibrant friendly community & that cancer Thatcher obliterated that community. The Tories & Thatcher ripped the heart & soul out of Barnsley, not just Barnsley but massive parts of Britain. There is still that community but it's not like it used to be. My uncle Alan owned Elmurst butchers when he was alive. As for B.M.B.C I think they have been brilliant trying to keep our communities afloat.
