The car was actually made in Australia. It is a Holden Monaro and was exported to the US to be sold as the last Pontiac GTO. Very cool car and don't ever sell it!!! My first car (from 1969) was a 56 MGA that had seen better days. I loved it but it pooped out and became a parts car for someone else. I currently have a 77 MGB roadster that is getting sorted out for some summer road trips. Hopefully everything will work out OK!

It's great that you've had Roxy that long. Some cars you just can't get rit of of no matter what happens in life. They can alway put a smile on your face every time you get behind the wheel. I've been the care taker of a 70 Cuda for over 50 years... Keep treating her right ♦

The GTO struts are fairly easy to work on. As recommended by Pedders - Justice Pete videos back in the day, you can leave the wheels on the car and use the car's weight to your advantage, unbolt the top of the struts, then jack up the car and remove the struts. Then after reinstalling the struts, drop back on tires and let the vehicle weight compress the struts. This also helps prevent the strut from spinning when you tighten the top. Good to see the old girl continuing to rack up the miles!

Yep, they were branded down here as a Holden Pontiac. The engines were built in Melbourne, and the car itself built in Adelaide. The left hand drive midels were called SS Chevy, and many were sold to the middle east. They were LS engines, but built here.

The GTO was originally a Holden from Australia. They moved the wheel to the left side and had a hotrod. We love it. I wish they would have done the same for the elcamino style car they have.
@peterdoyle3205 Жыл бұрын
The “Elcamino” style was called a Ute, short for utility in Australia. The hotted up models were called Malloo. The Ute was actually invented in Australia in the early 20th century when a farmer told Ford Australia that there was a need for a vehicle that he could use on the farm during the week but good enough to take his wife to church on Sundays. It predates what you Americans call a pickup.

Love to see another Roxy episode. I'm surprised the rotors came off fairly easily. I changed the original rotors on my girlfriend's 100k mile GTO and it took a sledgehammer. Also I don't know if you've ever done it but polyurethane radius rod bushings are an easy job to do and make driving and stopping the car feel better. Easier to do than an oil change. I actually replaced all my girlfriend's suspension/control arm bushings, ball joints and tie rods, and her 120k mile GTO drives way better than my 60k mile GTO. Both on the same coilovers.

I had a Black 2004 that I bought new. I got a discount because a tornado had brought down part of their dealership sign and scuff the front bumper and cracked the passenger headlamp assembly. Unfortunately mine was a lemon and it spent weeks in and out of the repair center in the first year for freeze plugs leaking and gauge cluster issues where the speedo would go back down when speed was decreased and keep increasing until it hit the max mph and then flip flop all over the place for a few seconds and reset back to zero and start the process all over again. The fuel gauge would not show properly. And finally the whole gauge cluster would flip out and flash lights and the dials would go back and forth. It was a mess. I got rid of it after I got a settlement from GM for it being a lemon. Those model year GTOs are quite rare. I rarely see them.

On a thirdgen fbody you take that top nut off (the one and only nut) with no weight on the suspension it all comes apart with the full force of the spring as it is the only thing that holds the spring force. There was a video a few years ago where a guy narrowly missed his leg and foot when the a-arm slammed into the ground and the strut flipped outward.
@earlbrown Жыл бұрын
An easier trick with your oil filters is to just jab a hole in the bottom with a bucket on the ground. Let it drain while you pop the main plug out. Then, when it's time to unscrew the filter, all the oil in there and the threaded neck had the chance to drain out.
@ralfie8801 Жыл бұрын
I always drop the oil filter first, if the oil is hot, that just means a lot less splashing of hot oil, no mess to clean up, and almost no risk of getting burned by hot oil.

For best stopping, the brakes need to be proportioned with the weight on each axle, and you have to adjust for weight shift during deceleration. Assuming it was designed correctly, if the Baer brakes are better than stock, then your balance will be off, and the car will not stop as quickly.
