Thank you for you honesty by adding up all real costs. I have a P-Line and only added weight to it for security and convenience reasons. Final weight 10.7 kg or 23.6 lbs. It still makes me smile when I ride and look at it. Maybe a little hint for you: As your bike is now 7.03 kg just shave of these 31g and make it 6.999kg. That is much easier than to reach 15 lbs. I recently got my H&H tensioner & derailleur combo for my C-Line superlight. I agree with you in your previous video that the tension on the H&H tensioners is relatively weak. This was causing chain slaps and loss of tension when backpedalling. To solve this, I took the tensioner apart and gave it one full wind before putting it back together. This gave it additional tension, and it is now a lot stronger. My chain slap and tension issues are gone.

In 2019 I bought a new flame painted, SuperlightM6LXBrompton here in Denmark, of course with Mudguards(!), as a "Rainy Dane". And it was delivered as Scandinavian Standard with a "long seat post" (Which can't go into my expensive, German B&W travel box, without being removed as a first!). Since then I have modified much, also several of the standard brake parts, saddle pin, the axle in front and security items into titanium and carbon parts (Brackets holding the original - titanium stays and the holders on the mudguards into carbon and aluminum (Actually "Heavy Metal" from the Factory, still on a former Top Superlight!)), for now 9,35 kilo, but with an ordered, lighter and Printed saddle, from the standard Superlight saddle and a little extra parts changed ( - standard handlebar), I expect to come below 9 kilo soon! Not so far above a T line + mudguards, and hardly worth the double pay I should think? It is still a "Horrible Bike" with the - heavy rolling, small wheels!! You are able to do what an ordinary bike does, but with much more effort, which is mostly felt during longer rides! It is a tool for special circumstances and for this it is brilliant, but as a "bike" it is a punishment! Finn. Denmark

I didn't weigh my bike, but it's a dahon which was their lightest model at one point, got it on ebay and bought some cheap used carbon crank arms, light seat post and saddle, but put drop handlebars on rotating clamps and shimano sora shifters modified a capreo cog set to fit the light back wheel and put a really big central crank wheel. It weighs around 10kg I think but rides like a full sized racing bike, and the cost was around $350 all in. Great for travelling and I can fit loads on the rack and handle bars. It's crazy how useful a lightweight folding bike is, I can't believe there isn't more in the way of good products on the market. Everything is either crazy expensive or pretty heavy. A new company needs to enter the market. But that Brompton looks great fun and I'm sure that weight saving feels great.

Agreed that replacing the headset with Chis King is a waste. There are others that cost a fraction of CK, which reduces more weight. As for ee brake, there are some weight saving there and they look great. A Union Jack calliper weight a little less and cost only 1/3 of ee Brake, and they look great, too. Just my opinion.

@BromptonFamilyTime I am surprise to hear that the brake calipers didn't improve anything for you. Did you try to ride your SMC rims with stock calipers? Carbon rims are notoriously more slippery. For light weight quality pedals, I think the Tiparts Workshop makes the smoothest pedals. They have little studs on them to provide extra grip. MKS makes good pedals but can be slipper if you ride in the rain. Also, make check the sizes if you have big feet. The smaller pedals may not be good for you even though they may be lighter.

Thanks so much for all your great videos and ideas. I have a T line -- upgraded from a 2008 Brompton with P type handlebars -- and while I have not made many modifications in my T line, I did change a few things. I followed your advice about pedals, and purchased Ti Works removable pedals (both left and right). I also swapped out the stock saddle with a Selle Italia SLR Boost TM Superflow, which is pretty light and (for me) a lot more comfortable than the stock saddle. My only remaining issue is the handlebars. I have the flat bars, but would like to find some compatible bars that will allow me to ride with a bit more of an upright stance. As a temporary solution, I purchased a Richey flat bar (steel), cut it down to 500 mm, and added ergon GS-5s. I think my bike weighs in at about 19 pounds, which is a full 10 pounds lighter than my old Brompton!! Enjoy your Brompton and your family and keep making videos.

Hello, does it worth buy a T model then changing/upgrading all parts rather than get a C line then changing part until you reach the 7kg?
@BromptonFamilyTime Жыл бұрын
The T and C are totally different bikes. I would not recommend modifying a C line more than the basic upgrades. It will not be as light as the T Line. The T Line is a modern bike that has better components and a better design than the steel frame (which is why it is a lot more expensive). It does not need to be upgraded at all so you can upgrade it over time when parts wear out (or use OEM parts).

@@BromptonFamilyTime thank you for answer. So if we can afford it we should make this choice ;-). I’ll consider.

Hi. Great video and awesome upgrades! I wanted to ask what you placed in place of the eezy wheels? Are those things that stabilize the bike when folded? Also I saw you removed the fenders. Does fender removal affect the folding of the T line? Do you have to buy anything else to keep the fold tight if the fenders are removed? Thanks!

I am using titanium stands. I never roll my bike so I wanted something that prevented my bike from rolling when folded on the train. Removing the fender on any Brompton makes it lean alittle so you have to make sure your leaning it towards a wall so it doesn't tip over. H&H make a hook that was suppose to solve this lean problem, but it did not work on my Brompton (I wasted $40 buying it).

Ok thanks for the info! Do you have a link for those titanium stands? 😊
For the city It's perfect for me. If you are younger and ride longer I would get the 12 speed.

Each to his/her own. But $9,000 for a Brompton?! I'd rather have 3-nice Bromptons. I am not clear why so many Brompton riders make such an expensive fuss about 5-6 pounds. Heck, it's not heavy.

Three nice P lines sound nice too. The T Line is not just lighter, but more responsive with the new gearing system.

do you wax your chains?
@BromptonFamilyTime7 ай бұрын
Yes, wax is great for my T-Line and Swytch bike. It's nice having a clean chain. The superlight (my commuter bike) is also waxed but I may switch back to oil. Wax comes off and gets rusty during the winter with all of the salt they lay on the roads.
@billhemingway55587 ай бұрын
good to know but i wonder if a liquid wax could be used after a wet ride? I'm going to try waxing.@@BromptonFamilyTime
@BromptonFamilyTime7 ай бұрын
After a wet ride, you can relube it with liquid wax, but once salt gets on the chain, the wax doesn't help. I replace my chain once I know the salt is no longer on the road. It looks really rusty at the end of the winter.

I have heard in London they have this problem since Bromptons are known as expensive bike.

I'm happy for you that everything finally comes to fruition, but using a "light weight" carbon brake levers just does not make sense to me. Spending extra $$$ on parts that could compromise your safety. And it's puzzling why Brampton would go with an easily worn out Carbon chain ring as well. Hope you will have fun and enjoy the bike, but not at the cost of

There is a lot of belly noise, is it possible to get rid of it?
@BromptonFamilyTime Жыл бұрын
Check out Brompton's KZbin channel. They just released a video about fixing noise problems on the T Line. This may help. I find all bikes will make noise and it you need to constantly do maintenance.
