My heart aches for that little boy, alone, scared all by himself for no one to help or comfort him. I'm devastated to hear this news. No child should suffer such a sentence it's tragic and heartbreaking. My condolences are with the family.

@@simonhill9553do you say that from a position of knowledge? There could be a good reason why she couldn't be near the father given social services were involved. On the other hand, her just being a useless mother wouldn't be enough to spark SC involvement. My child's father was useless but we never needed social services involvement because he cba with his child. That's just not a valid reason for sc involvement if there is at least one fully present and functional adult.

In the old ways that communities used to look after each other this would have been a very rare occurrence. we need to get back to this and look after our family, friends and neighbours. Take back our responsibilities to each other. Do no harm and be kind and caring to all.

This happens a lot but usually it's an old person or someone who has no family. People are more selfish now and don't think about those who are alone or vulnerable, like they used to. Our school used to take us out to the neighbourhood in winter snow to door knock checking on older people running errands digging snow out and shopping for them. Showing them respect and care. Now people have their kids run wild and a lot of elderly are stuck home as they can't get out or too scared to go out. Values have changed for the worse

On more than one occasion I have raised concerns if one of my customers has milk left outside etc. Are you in a position where u could rent a room for example? It would be company for you and help someone who is in need. Also don’t be afraid to ask for help via charities, Church etc, you may find a group who could pick u up for a social day etc. I hope this is a good year for you and we all need to care more and start being ‘nosey neighbours’ ❤

I don't think people have any idea of the daily stress and worry of a single parent. I've lost count of the amount of times a single parent has said "what would happen if something happens to me" to me whilst I was working at a charity. People have no clue. The lack of compassion in society is shocking! Anyone who thinks people intentionally become single parents for benefits is so delusional.

Here in the US, social workers are overwhelmed with the shear quantity of work. Also, that career field doesn't attract the best and brightest as a general rule of thumb. Rather than suggest even more government involvement and funding, I would start with asking, why is the need for social workers greater than ever? Something is inherently wrong with modern society. It's like humans weren't made to be anonymous cogs in an endless sea of people. That's how humans lose their way and their sanity. We had an interesting thing happen here in the US back in the settler days. When white people were either captured or interacted with American Indians, they chose to stay even when they could leave. But the opposite - Indians choosing to stay in white European society - almost never happened. People think the US has a gun problem and the UK a knife problem. No. We have a people problem. Do we think this father and son would have ended up this way had they been a part of a small social or family group looking after each other? Government involvement is just a bandaid for the real problem, and that's why there's no real government fix to be had. We need a societal fix.

Shame on us all as neighbours but that's the world in which we live, unfortunately - only interested in our own personal issues, rather than to look out for our vulnerable neighbours too. In my humble view, if Lincs Social Services had reason to be involved with this man and his toddler then it was reason good enough, and when they got no response on 27th December, (despite it being Twixmas) they should have acted with urgency and without delay, especially given the shameful history of other cases where social services failed in their duty of care to venerable children. Starvation and dehydration is a painful death and I hope those responsible will reflect on this every time they remember knocking on that door and got no rely; that there was a 2 year old infant who was in a distressing state, desperate to be saved. Shame on all of us, but especially those paid to protect such innocent lives. But this won't be last case - there will be many more in the future because it seems we never learn from our mistakes, despite promises to learn lessons.

They told me to use a hammer through a piece of carpet to bend it down tighter to the floor. As soon as I started, next door messaged me about the knocking which was a bit muffled as it was through carpet - not to complain, but to check I was OK and wasnt knocking for help. I also fetched shopping a few times they needed extra during the pandemic. They also look out of the upstairs if they hear my van - again, not to spy, but to check no-one is breaking in it which I appreciate. I keep an eye/ear out for their house if they're ever away overnight. Its nice to have people who check on each other.

It's the cold hearted Britain. Compared to other cultures, where families are tight knit and care for each other and check on each other, British culture is all about "minding my own business and only caring about myself". I remembered several people I've encountered who don't talk to their families anymore even if they just live across each other. It's sad to see.

Your commentary is inaccurate..the social worker called the police repeatedly to report that they were concerned about the father and child and the lack of contact and the fact they were unable to get an answer or gain access to the property..the police did absolutely nothing..and it was the social worker and landlord of the property who eventually gained access and found the deceased father and child.. Lincolnshire police have been referred over this tragic matter..

This is a sad reflection of today’s society - on the street I grew up on that had about 30 houses in the 1970s-80s everyone knew each other, people talked, baby sat peoples kids, there was a community. Now most people don’t even speak to the people who live directly next door to them, very sad.

Tragic & avoidable. Lone parents are exhausted, resilient but judged. We often escape a deceptive abuser who's played on our kind nature. We do not choose to be alone, we flee for our lives and the lives of our children, at hreat cost because we have no option! You don't escape a "safe" man or woman depending who the perpetrator is. Lone parent status needs to be added to the Equality Act of protected characteristics. No net to catch us when we are close to the edge... see the film "About A Boy" This poor innocent child 🙏

Lone parent status needs to be added to the Equality Act of protected characteristics to stop prejudice and let policy weave a safety net. All things new, 2024 🇬🇧 Educate men not to abuse their wives and children and of course stop women who are also abusive, its an entitled societal problem.

While this was horrific for the boy it was no picnic for the Dad either and I hope he is not forgotten. The 'social Worker' that kept calling is at fault to some degree as they could of prevented the boys death at least. I know they are underfunded like most are nowadays but perhaps where a social worker is involved they could have a key to the property to be used when they get no answer? I bet many deaths could be prevented if that was the case. The key could be returned when their presence is no longer needed? As a father myself my heart goes out to both of them and to the family who have to pick up the pieces now.
