Just for anyone who's curious about the Manhunt Rule (which I totally understand why they didn't go over), it works like this: If the Fugitive places card 42 AND the highest revealed card is 30 or lower, the game isn't over yet (but normal turns are). A Manhunt begins and the Marshal gets to, uninterrupted and ONE AT A TIME, guess hideouts. The marshal does NOT get to draw cards though, simply keep saying numbers and as soon as ONE of the guesses is wrong the Fugitive wins. But if you manage to guess eeeevery single remaining hideout you as a Marshal 1. win and 2. are an absolute legend. I think the purpose of the rule (besides being fun and tense) is so the Fugitive can't just do one big "maximally extended sprint" towards the end and win, even tough that would tell the Marshal exactly what came before it
@driftwisp27972 жыл бұрын
That rule seems like it would make it very difficult for the fugitive to win. At first glance I thought an optimal strategy might be for the marshal to guess conservatively while drawing exclusively from the 29-41 pile. If the fugitive drew from the earlier piles as normal then the 29-41 pile would be exhausted by the time they got there forcing them to pass repeatedly and making it easy to catch them. If they drew from 29-41 before they were ready then they'd have a harder time getting there efficiently and wouldn't want to use those cards for sprints, making it hard to shake off the Marshal's guesses and still ending up in a difficult end game. As I thought about it more I figured that a big sprint at the end spending your entire hand to get from 28 to 42 would be the counter to that. It would mean that you couldn't do many sprints before that, but even if the Marshal could follow your trail with conservative guesses they'd risk suddenly losing unless they guessed multiple numbers at a time, and since the fugitive would be skipping the are the Marshal had information on, it'd be very hard to land any multi-guesses. But if there's a special rule to prevent that suddenly loss, I don't know how to properly deal with that.
@metallsnubben2 жыл бұрын
@@driftwisp2797 I feel like this is something that came up in playtesting and this was the biggest potential silly case so they added this one exception, but didn't drill down to the increasingly unlikely further edge cases Kinda like how the biggest idea with leap years are how they come every 4 years... except when it's an even multiple of 100 - except when that's also an even multiple of 400, and so on Though I feel like the head start + starting hand is enough of an edge to not get fully trapped by the "exit wall-off" strategy. You get to build up a lot of hideouts and you can't really be stopped from making it to 28 before the final pile is _empty_ even if it's very thin (and if those couple of remaining cards in the last pile are used as hideouts and you guess them "for free", it doesn't necessarily make them useless as it could still have let you save a bit of sprint resources) It's definitely cutting it close though, but I feel like it's kinda mathed out to be close almost whatever you do

Fantastic game! Had never heard of this before this episode (other than its previous appearance in your top ten list) but it's an absolutely tense game! Enough to make the fugitive unravel before they even play their first card! Seeing this mostly from the agent's perspective also made the end of each game feel like an absolute stand-up-from-your-chair-cheering-and-clapping moment! This series has been nothing short of amazing, major props to the winner, and I can't wait for the showdown to end all showdowns in the grand finale! I am gussing Dom meta Brooke in the second game. You can see she took the 3 card in. Given him the 3. Leaving him just 4,5,6,7,8. You can resonable assumptions (unless brook was bluffing). That it will only be 7,8 since these would be only ones needing the sprint. He could have pick up one of these give him really good gusse. Even with out assuming she only sprint since she need to, he could have pick up one or two of second set of cards leaving him with 1/4 or 1/3 of win game out right. Additional prood was Dom select his first cards below the table on the first turn when he was Fugitive indicating he was aware of this potential tell.

I have a bit of a niche behind-the-scenes question since I enjoy learning about production and such- I'd imagine at least some of the quarters and semis were filmed in batches for scheduling's sake and to get the most footage in the can as possible in one go, but were the quarters and semis recorded in the order they're going up on the channel or was it one side of the bracket and then the other before getting to the final? Or somewhere in between?
