Such wonderful videos. It's like vicariously being a New Yorker.

This reminds me of a show that used to be on MuchMusic (canada's equivalent more or less to MTV), where there used to be a booth with a camera and you could record random thoughts or opinions which would be presented in a show on the channel. It was called Speaker's Corner, pretty popular back in the mid 90s.

@therealEmpyre --- Thanks for noticing! I really love the RAVEN as told by James Earl Jones (which appeared on the simpsons). Very memorable and should have been incorporated by George Lucas as a monologue in those crappy star wars prequels after Vader ends up trapped in his Sith-Suit. I recently read 'the Domain of Arnheim' by POE and was completely blown away. Renee Magritte paid homage to that short by doing a suberb painting - which I recreated as a ultra huge canvas. Really sublime stuff...

@jengelele Wow! That sounds like such an awesome show! Are there any clips out there of the show? Like any KZbin videos or other websites with clips from the show? I'd very much be interested in checking this out. Such a shame something so cool got shut down.

@Silveryback ----- I have put an old Speakers Corner clip on my KZbin Channel Page ----- it should be easy find as I have put it at the Number 1 position. (It's a clip of a dude who is a regular contributor ranting about the USofA during the good ol' Bush years...). You can search KZbin for 'speakers corner toronto' and get some small and disjointed clips here and there -- which doesn't really do the 1/2hour show much justice.

@OhNoItsGojira i think it was roughly 60 days out on the street over the course of a little over a year. so on average it was about one day a week for 3 hours. All self funded and i spent much more money on it that i earned. Mostly i make my living from contract/freelance work in engineering and art installations. But I do hope that someday there is actually a sustainable business of this sort. Always a work in progress! ;)

@garwig888 Okay man, I can dig it. Dan takes his booth out around downtown Brooklyn, sticking mostly to Flatbush Avenue and occasionally heading to the Brooklyn Bridge. The neighborhood is more business than residential, and has a lot of workers passing through as well as people hanging out on the street. Cops haven't bothered him. He did need to get a permit in order to collect money. He has to file tax on his earnings. Work-wise he is an artist and engineer. There. Dug.

LENORE: Toronto used to have a video booth called 'SPEAKERS CORNER' PERCHED in a hub in a vibrant downtown district. The recording haul was edited into weekly TV show that was great to watch and gave a great feel to the City. Having all those Stoners, Hockey Moms(?!), Tourists, Drunks, the WEAK & WEARY, Homeless folk, folk with grievances, musicians, teenagers, and the maladjusted just letting loose. It was shut down after being bought out by a conservative media conglomerate - AND NOTHING MORE.

@1acroyear1 I've had many New Yorkers who've lived with me who've just done some terrible things to me and my family. And because of these people I suppose I have a hatred toward the whole place
