Locked On Nets

In the first day of a new Brooklyn Nets era, the team brings back Nic Claxton on a 4 year, $100 million dollar contract. It was a move that makes sense for the team even with Mikal Bridges now headed across town to the Knicks.
Locked on Nets discuss the Claxton signing, why they did it and why it still fits with the current build. Plus, the Nets didn’t get into the first round of the draft? Why might that have been a difficult thing to pull off.

I've been a Nets fan since 1990 and this is one of my proudest moments. Claxton is my favorite player and I've been wanting them to build around him, Cam Thomas & Clowney. I've also been begging for them to trade Bridges and not build around him and they did and also got a great haul in return. Now just trade Cam Johnson & DFS at the least please.

Exactly!!! That’s exactly what us real fans wanted!! A real organic rebuild!! Man if we can finally get the first pick in 25/26 and get cooper Flagg I’ll be so gd happy!!! Clax, Flagg, Clowney, Thomas, Wilson, Whitehead and some other pieces would be a great team to build on!! I don’t wanna get superstars I want us to BUILD SUPER STARS/ ALL STARS⭐️

Sounds good to me, the only thing I really want to see is for the Nets to get a 7 foot physical center to play next to Claxton to dominate the paint and let Cam Thomas be like Iverson back when they went to the finals. Protect the rim rebound and get more opportunities. They also need to get a player through the draft or the open market. that can play with their back to the basket you cannot fast break on every play. You need to throw it into the post every once in a while.

I mean come on it’s an exciting time but when we got KD and Kyrie that was incredible. Obviously now it was a sh** show but at the time it was like yoooo we about to win a title and we would’ve if it wasn’t for covid and injuries I do agree this is a great 36hrs 😂 We’re finally gonna have a direction and we can build a contender organically!! If we can get the first pick in 25/26 and get Cooper Flagg we’re golden!!! Clax, Flagg, Clowney, Thomas that’s a nice team and all home grown!!!

Watched nba since 2010, didnt really have a team till nets moved to brooklyn, i just gravitated toward knicks cause hometown initially, and i gravitated towards the nets immediately, honestly the Nets starting a full rebuild now is probably the happiest I have ever been as a Nets fan. Do wish we made at least one trade into the 24 draft though.

I'm really happy we paid Claxton. It's a great optic and cultural tone-setter that we take care of our own. I can't remember the last player we drafted, groomed and extended.

Great pod dude! No problem with the Clax deal, happy for him and doesnt hurt anything with our current situation now. Plus the little glimpses we got at a Clax/Clowney frontcourt with the twitchy block party looked really fun to watch- maybe its one of those good things we can hang on to while its a down year. I think youre right about the FO wanting to reward homegrown Clax and that does indicate a bit of that culture regaining rebuilding etc. I can respect and appreciate that. Feel the same way about Bridges and the situation - it has been somewhat surprising and a little cringe seeing how much nets discussion online is so aggressively emotionally entitled about him as fans. but everyone has their own way of following a team lol. Looking fwd - can we pls request a monthly Rafael Barlowe guest spot/check in once the season starts? We're going to be looking so closely at the upcoming draft, would be awesome having his voice in the mix! Have been a big fan of the big board pod and its exciting to finally deep dive into the bulk of a draft (not just pick 20+) for the first time in awhile.

I’m glad that Claxton is back and even though we couldn’t get into the draft, that’s fine. We already have Dariq Whitehead who hasn’t played much and now will get an opportunity this upcoming season. I hope they still can trade Cam Johnson, DFS, and “hopefully” Simmons but I doubt that.

I agree with you Doug. It's hard to have any hard feelings towards Bridges. He's not the kind of guy you have bad feelings for. Plus, he retained his value around the league in spite of a tough year. Also agree that it's easy to say trade DFS and CJ for picks but incredibly difficult to do. I love my Nets podcast. Even solo you guys show up and rock.

Hope we get rid of some Of those vets for some picks too. I can’t wait to see Cam and Claxton grow. I hope Claxton gets to show some of his offensive abilities and get more touches. I know he can shoot the 3 too. It’ll be nice if he gets a nice mid range jumper
