I don't know what happened in the last couple decades but your kind of story wasn't uncommon when I was young (40ish years ago). Society recognized ethnic differences but there were less prominent cultural differences. Not to mention it's crazy how when I was young, we generally saw black folks more often than not as being solid Christians. Heroes of faith in Christ. I don't know how the public perception has changed so rapidly to the point that now when I think of the perception of the black community, I think of rap and twerking and etc instead of Jesus lovers. Something bad happened to the culture and I don't know what it was.

I love you brother. That teared me up. I grew up next to retirement apartments. Many who lived there would call me to take out their trash and give me a nickel, dime, or sometimes even a quarter...sometimes a snack for me or my dog. They would talk and talk. I loved it. Didn't care about the money. I loved the stories and the genuine connections. Needless to say; I grieved a lot of deaths but it was worth it. The memories are golden. I'd do it all again.

He was the only one not hit from the blast. He spent the rest of his life raising a family, a crop, and cattle. He spoke few words and the words he did speak were kind and humble. He loved singing old hymns at church. He taught me how to love the Lord with a humble heart. That's my Mr. Wrigley ❤️

Also, I love the reference to "the words written in red." The song is referencing the words in the Bible spoken by Jesus. I'm sure most of y'all know, but I wanted to mention it. I LOVE this journey that you are on with country music. Real country music isn't short shorts beer and tailgates. It is music that touches the soul. Music like what you just listened to. Chris Stapleton, Jamey Johsnon, Merle Haggard (my all-time favorite). Real country music will move you, touch you, male you feel. Short of Stapleton, I can't tell you the last time I heard a real country song played on country radio. I thank the good Lord for other formats to find the real stuff!

This is the first time I’ve heard this song. Brooks (or Dunn) did a great job singing it. You may not know that there are a whole lot of Christians in the world of Country music. Watch their awards show sometime, and you will hear them praising their Lord all over the place! If you are a born again Christian, and I think you are, then don’t hesitate to say so. We can’t worry about stepping on other religion’s toes when it comes to sharing our faith. Who knows, something you say may very well bring light to that other person who is still in the dark. Honestly, my daddy is my Old Man Wrigley. He could fix anything, he was my protector, my role model. When he got to the point where Alzheimer's took every memory it could, it couldn't shake the faith out of him. He might not remember who I was on a given day, couldn't necessarily hold a conversation that made sense to us, but the man could still send up a prayer like a preacher, every word made sense and every person he came in contact with got prayed for (whether they wanted it or not. Lol). I love this song and while of course I find it sad, I also find it so hopeful. Old Man Wrigley went on home to be reunited with his wife and his baby and eventually I'll see my dad again. Thanks for the react on this. Btw, you mentioned that you liked storytelling, which is why you're getting country suggestions out the wazoo. Lol. I'm an atheist and one of the hardest parts of that is not having the hope to see people that have passed away again. My dad passed in 2014 and it is the hardest thing going through life believing that he is no longer able to see what i do with my life. Songs like this make me wish for the days when i was Christian or even as a kid being Mormon. But on the other side of that coin i think it makes me cherish each day i have with people more than i would if i thought that death was not the end.

My "Mr. Wrigley" was our older neighbor, his name was Gilbert. He was there the day I was born. So many hours, afternoons (that turned into evenings) talking about space, math, science, women, life, kids, EVERYTHING. He'd always say, "come in, getcha something to eat", and I did. I was never unwelcome in that house. I was never asked to leave, even when the hours got late. He, or his wife would say, "you're more than welcome to stay here, but we're going to bed". I had a neighbor, Mr. Whit, that I spent several days, hours, minutes every chance I could listening to his stories and learning life lessons from when I was a teenager. He was 86 years old, still tended his garden every day, raised and slaughtered his own chickens for food and would lend me tools when I had chores to do outside. This song hits me like a ton of bricks right in my feels every time. I can’t help but think of Mr. Whit and my fondest memories of that sweet old man. Thanks for reacting to this song!

This always makes my throat burn every time I hear it. This right here is what being American is, believing. And being there, for each other, regardless of color or creed. That old man was an absolute angel on earth in Dunn’s life. Only hope we can all aspire to be like him. He left the picture of his wife and son behind in the bible for him to find to show him he was finally with them , Ronnie Dunn was a youth pastor growing up , this was a true story .

One of my favorite songs of Brooks and Dunn.. I’m 71 and have listened to Country and Motown Soul, I don’t care for the new Country but, can listen to these songs over and over.. this actually reminds me of my great grandmother!🙏🏻😓

I like all music but, traditional country is my favorite. I know you have said in other videos that you hear blues in it. You don't have country without the blues. Country is a strong mix of blues, gospel and folk music. Enjoy finding the artists you like.

That’s why new country music is trash. It lost the blues

Just found your channel about an hour ago. First you did randy travis, then Jamey jhonson, then this one, brooks and dunn. It's nice seeing you react to these sad country songs. I had forgotten about some of the better songs from just a few years ago. Just here to tell you, keep doing what your doing.

Good country touches the heart. Something we all need from time to time. Thanks for the reactions. I believe every young man, kid, needs someone they can talk to and know its safe to do so. I can't seem to get into the site you suggest for songs we would like you to react to, one I believe you'll enjoy is David Phelps Hello Beautiful.

It's a splendid song. I have always loved it, always. I had a few older mentors, one was a teacher, who always encouraged me.😊
