Being born in Liverpool and living there until aged 14 the Brookside theme tune will forever be in my heart... I actually lived not far from the Brookside set. For those not familiar, Brookside was a soap opera that ran from 1982 until 2003 and featured many controversial and realistic storylines that pretty much summed up life in Liverpool at the time.
The Brookside theme tune became known as the "Scouse national anthem", probably due to how scousers were portrayed to the rest of the country through this programme.
I always loved the theme tune to Brookside for its use of nice analogue synths, simple synth horn and string sounds and the distinctive synth percussion hit. The first version of the theme tune ran from 1982 to 1990. I am not sure what exactly local composer David Roylance used on this recording but I am guessing it may have been a Prophet 5 or possibly even a Jupiter 4... maybe someone knows ?
UPDATE: Since creating this I have learnt that it was indeed a Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 that was used on the original recording.
I have tried to re-create the sounds as best I can. My version is a cross between the intro tune and the ending tune and doesn't have the electronic toms (a bit similar to the version that was released on vinyl).
