How refreshing to see a coach actually talking sense. You wouldn't believe how many coaches are actually saying that we should force the right elbow forward - I tried it and immediately it was apparent that you couldn't even make contact with the ball if you did this (without installing half a dozen extra joints in your arms). I agree when you say it's horse poo.

I’ve literally watched thousands of golf instructional videos on KZbin and this is the best instructional video I’ve ever seen. I’ve seen some really good stuff, but nothing better than this to teach swing path and face orientation. If you feel that handle being pulled in to the body like Stu is teaching in this video…say goodbye to over the top. Say goodbye to slicing and an out to in swing path. Feel what it’s like to hit a draw…and how to manipulate the ball flight with just slight movement and orientation of the pull left. For real… this is the golf secret for 95% of golfers. The circle goes around you, people! Not out to in, or out to out. In to in! Feel that circle around you! I’d be shocked if someone who shoots in the 80s and 90s or above doesn’t improve by 10 to 20 strokes with this instruction. It’s that good people!

Stuart, this video is indeed your finest moment. So many pearls of wisdom to support your quite differentiated approach to swinging the club & consistently striking the golf ball. What I find intriguing is your philosophy is quite unique in a few critical areas and yet so in alignment in others. Your move away is 100% in alignment with other leading modern golf swing coaching. A fabulous pivot away blending wrist hinge / set, with the hand path moving inside as you rotate hips and shoulders. It’s classic and spot on. What works classically down the ages doesn’t need to be changed and you don’t. I find it really interesting the way you call out the moves many traditional coaches include in their portfolio as “ garbage”. The most obvious one being the tucking in of the trail elbow coupled with excessive side bend. This broom drill in my opinion starts to illuminate/ call out the differentiation of your philosophy around the release pattern. Many really excellent coaches have attempted to explain why you should not flip the hands and roll the forearms through impact. Your broom drill illustrates what you should be doing based on a perfect blend of body rotation and a natural release pattern derived from hand path and wrist re-hinging in the follow through. Some US observers have mentioned aspects that Mike Malaska. I think these observations are mainly in respect to allowing the wrists to hinge & release naturally through impact avoidance of active rolling the forearms through impact. In my opinion, this video is your Mona Lisa. Myles

this really is probably one of the best explanations I've ever seen. I have had a golf club in my hands since I was 8 years old, i played college golf and have always searched for better more consistent ball striking. They way he describes what the handle is doing in relation to what the club head is doing and how they DO NOT take the same path is such great information and probably a real revelation for a lot of people. Thanks for putting this out there!!! Wish you were in the states...would love to have lesson time with you!!!!

Hi Stuart. You are my now go to coach for the golf swing on KZbin. Club heads and shafts are designed for specific reason and to perform a certain way. The golfer is the driver of the club. Most amateurs' swing counteract the design of a golf club thus making this game harder. Poor golf instruction hasn't helped also, but many instructors believe in the in-to-out or the one plane swings. They've developed ways to swing a club to backup their theory. Your videos have pieced together the missing pieces of the puzzle to the swing for me. Your broom series videos are all great! Going around to the left (right handed) during the through swing and how that squares the club face. Thank you for that! I have a coach locally that is adamant that every golfer should swing differently because of their physical make up. Some players have longer or shorter arms, tall or short in height...etc. I believe in that also. Same reason people shouldn't buy a set of clubs off the rack, especially a putter. I like your view on how one's physical attributes will dictates one's way to swing a club. Look forward to watching your next video. Keep up the good work!

I had a lesson years ago at a range in Marietta, Geogia from Sam Snead's nephew, JC on the Monday after The Masters weekend. He just happened to be on the range prepping for The Tradition in Tucson, AZ. I walked up to him and asked if i could watch him and ended up getting a lesson. The first thing he had me do was go back to the clubhouse and get a broom. He taught me to use the broom with my left hand/side and let the right hand/side go along for the ride. This simple method completely transformed my golf swing and score card forever. So you definitely are in select company with your broom series. Cheers Mate!! Any thoughts or comments?

Seeing how the broom handle and brushes move is eye opening. Never knew how important the butt end of the club was and how it affects the club face, thanks for the education. The visual is shocking. No wonder whenever I try to swing out to the right I slice big time. With trial and error, I learned that for me to hit a draw, whatever is my target, I aim just slightly to the right of that target, place the ball a little farther back in my stance and make my normal swing; and for a fade, I aim slightly left of my target, place the ball a little more forward in my stance, use a slightly less strong grip, and make my normal swing. I tried fiddling with other ways to do it, but I’m most comfortable doing it this way and it works the best for me. Cheers.

You're a great coach. I've always hit the ball pretty straight, but I believe I've chased the draw in the wrong manner with inside out and standing the handle up. I'm watching all of your content (especially the shot making), and it is so in line with what i feel when i am hitting shots (vs playing make a pretty golf swing). Keep up the good work, and thank you. Do you happen to do online lessons?

Hi DSC - hugely appreciate the kind feedback Sir, and I am equally as happy that the insights I am providing resonate with you my friend. I do indeed offer online lessons via the Skillest app, which you can find the link to me in some of my most recent descriptions or simply search for me on Skillest. Look forward to hearing from you. This is great. The amoung the handle needs to come into you to swing through is easy to see and feel with the boom. This making a lot of sense to me along with my re-discovering Jim Waldron's Arm Swing Illusion. I'd love to see you talk about that a little bit and how it all fits. I think this will really help with my thin/no divot and either push or hook miss, especially with irons.
@GoodGolfCoaching Жыл бұрын
Yes it will Robin.. Sadly I am not familiar with Waldron's illusion but ill take a look. Thank you so much for the lovely comments and wish you well with your golf Sir. Best wishes Stu
Great video Stu. I think this is a similar technique that Mike malaska and Scott hogan teach which they call the flip out. I’ve started to use this technique recently as I was starting to get stuck trying to drive the elbow forward so much

Very well explained and great visuals. I know that I tend to slide my hips and lean backward as I start my downswing but wasn't aware what too much trying to pushing hands out opened the club face that badly.! I tend to struggle with the turn to finish but now watching that vid I can get that rubbish out of my head. (I'm guessing pros can get away with it via their expert hip movements, as some on YT really press home the issue.?) Now - wheres that broom... 👍

Thank you for this. I am going to work on it in the practice bay with launch monitor at the PGA Superstore in Rockville, Maryland that I go to several days a week. I have noticed that annoying tendency you illustrate of finding your strike point is behind the ball even when you think you have applied swing corrections you have been learning. It takes a lot of forward shifting of the hips, getting the weight on the left foot starting early before the top of the backswing. Point number two, even then, I have found when I actually play a round that a lot of strikes that I thought were going to be good go high and straight to the right and miss the green. I double checked to be sure the bottom of my club face was aligned 90 degrees to the target line. I found that what I had to do was realign the bottom of the club face at address to be slightly closed or left of the target line. At least it seems like that. Now that I have watched this video I can see that what is happening to me is exactly what you are describing. Just one question. Many coaching videos by pros who seem to be very solid, and who the pro at my driving range agrees are good, place emphasis on that forward shift of weight starting early as you are still reaching the top of the backswing. They also stress that once your weight is on the left leg, rotating the hips comes easily, naturally. But if you start the forward shift late, as most of us duffers do, your weight is still distributed 50-50 or even a bit more on the trail leg near the bottom of the swing, so you cannot rotate and instead just spin the hips. I would like to know if you also make a forward shift on to the left or lead leg as part of the swing you are showing here? I could not see from the view from behind you.

Hi Stuart - love your videos and the broom analogy of a golf swing is very illuminating - you have a new subscriber. You lost me a little when you were showing the pulling of the club around the lead leg. Are you saying the pulling and downward pressure is the correct motion BUT that if you don’t have the correct grip THEN the face might open? Please could you tell me if that is correct then what grip do you recommend for this motion to work effectively and to be able to take divots.
@GoodGolfCoaching11 ай бұрын
Hi David, big thanks for subscribing my friend, and you absolutely understood correctly. Correct grip is essential. Best wishes Stu 😊

I took to golf at 25 and after a bunch of years struggling, settled into a self taught swing with what you would call, a freakishly strong grip. It worked for me though, and I could smash the bloody cover off the ball. I once drove a 400 yard par 4 all carry and would regularly be on or near the fringes of 345+ par 4's. I tried to qualify for the LDT in the 90's but could never keep it in the grid with a gallery watching. I played to a 2.35 for about a year but was CONSTANTLY told... "you can't play golf holding a club like that" you need lessons. I finally gave in and went to a pro who plays in 5 or so PGA events a year. He promptly changed everything and insisted that I needed to drop my hands towards my heels on the down and then rotate hard with right side bend. Since those lessons(that ruined me) I've never felt the power of SAMASHING a ball again. Occasionally I would get one out over 300 but could barely sniff 250 ever since. Until now that is!!! After stumbling onto your videos, I went to the basement and executed the broom drills over and over.(quite strange to not be bending in half to the right and dropping my hands like an ape) until I got the feel. Today, I went to the range on this cold 28 degree New England day. I hit 125 balls and right from the very first strike, I teared up! The wear in the center of my T 100's is now going to quickly catch up to the heel and toe wear!! Seriously, This was eye opening and AMAZING. I would say that out of the 125 hit, about 25 were not in my created fairway and only 5 of those 25 would I be searching for. The feeling coming off the club is phenomenal, the ball fight was a nice tight draw. At 64 years old my 3 iron(yup, still carry one) was flying 220 in the air. And swinging this way has absolutely no stress or adverse affects! It's comfortable! I'm freaking out here!, I'm back! Taking it to Pinehurst this Thursday. In my 64 years on this earth, I've not once ever even THOUGHT of kissing a bloke!! For you, I'll make an exception😘 Cheers mate!

@@GoodGolfCoaching I went back to the range today to see if yesterday was a fluke. It was not. It is about 10 degrees colder today(18f) and the wind is whipping right to left. I think I looked like an idiot to everyone, standing on the range mat in a t shirt but... first swing with a six iron and the ball took off like a bullet. A frozen bullet that went about 185 with a one yard draw! Pretty nice for having 20 mph right to left wind and snow blowing across the mat! I looked at the face and there were little whiskers of ball covering sticking out of the center grooves... here come those tears again. Subsequently, it was much like yesterdays session. A few pulls, a few pushes that did not come back even with the wind but for the majority of hits, just SMASHED! The point is, that swinging the way you explain, you pure it, and the wind has no effect. It's quite amazing how you explain the way the club travels and, SHOULD travel without manipulation.(something I struggled with since those lessons that ruined me) and your drills just light it up in the mind almost instantly. I am very excited about what years I have left in my golfing life. I watched and WILL DO more of your drills and soon they will be replacing Ben Hogan's and Moe Normans pictures with mine as the best ball striker of all time! LOL On a serious note, If people would just pay attention to what you are actually saying and REALLY do the drills, they would be amazed at the outcome. Hey, I've done what Pete Cowen and George Gankes and all the others preach. It didn't last, it was uncomfortable for me and inconsistent. I can tell right from the get go, because of how hard, fast , and comfortably I can whip the club through now and, get quality, strikes and flight, I'll be back to a single digit in no time. Like to say it's all me but, I give credit where credit is due and that is you. Cheers

@@GoodGolfCoaching My good man, I just returned from my golf trip to Pinehurst. We played 7 days straight and I am STILL excited for the future! A bit difficult to bring the ideas to the course at first but not awful... Second day I broke 80 for the first time since my 2.3 handicap swing was taught right out of me, A looooong time ago! 79 on the Pine Wild Holly course! Was striking the tee ball and irons magnificently! Short game was firing on all cylinders! All subsequent rounds, the short game had cracks in 7 of the 8 cylinders LOL. Just kind of tells me where I really need practice🙄 Still, I was incredibly surprised at how far and accurate I was able to hit all clubs through the bag. Probably hit 80% of fairways off the tee on some NOT SO EASY courses!! I started out on Pine needles(women's US open course) with a bogey then 5 pars and a birdie, followed by, how the hell do you swing this thing? for the rest of the round?? I guess I let the damn brain get in the way. This just solidifies that your videos, when truly watched with intent and purpose are second to NONE my boy. I think the only issue I have is trying to keep cup in the left wrist through strike but, BLOODY HELL! My wife wants to take another trip to Ireland but I think I'm going to put my foot down!!! WE'RE FLYING TO THE UK AND I'M GOING TO SURREY!!! Cheers mate
