I have an old walking stick gathered from a family friend's land many years ago that my dad had wood burned for me. He died earlier this year and I would love to turn it into a broom now! I look forward to using this knowledge to do that! Thank you.

@@Sheepdog1314 the only person that I know that teaches birch bark is Vladimir from Russia. He co-wrote a book with Flo Hoppe and Jim Widess. If you can find a copy there might be information on how to do so. www.amazon.com/Plaited-Basketry-Birch-Vladimir-Yarish/dp/1402748094

Nice project, great looking broom. I've been growing a small patch of broom corn in my back garden for the last three years. I have a bit more than a kilo of tops saved-up and would love to start making a few brooms. I've seen many videos on KZbin but think your brooms look the best. I have holly wood to use for the stick handle bit, but don't know what type of twine to use for the webbing/tie-off bit. what is the red twine you used? Thank you

Waxed linen for the sewing and nylon twine for the actual tying on of the broom

Do we need to use dry wood for the stick always or green is ok?
@jchoatebasketry
@jchoatebasketry 3 жыл бұрын
Green sticks will shrink as they lose water. That may make your braid loosen up. I'd stick with non-green.
