I think it's weird how the first combo they teach you, it's to just activate heat and heat smash, something that you generally don't want to do and can only do once per round.

Facts. I was doing that combo in the demo. Once I realized it was sub optimal I stopped using it. I guess it is for the absolute beginner.

I do find it interesting that Broski is still looking at this at the mentality that Arcade Quest does need to fully teach people everything right away, because casual players simply can't handle even the smallest bunches of info for fighters and keep it all together and then just say "This is too hard" so Arcade Quest is teaching people what they only need in that moment and time, and is going to very slowly have you learn new things overtime so the other stuff you learn has time to sync in. That's what World Tour does in SF6 very well. It doesn't even give you Drive Rush, Parry, or Impact until like Chapter 6. They want you to learn slow because most people aren't like Broski and are willing to only play online and in tournaments because they have knowledge from over many years, when most people might be trying to genuinely learn Tekken from square one with absolutely no prior fighting game experience. Just something I wanted to mention
@matthewshaw1577
@matthewshaw1577 Жыл бұрын
I think his problem is more that it just doesnt seem to teach the right stuff, like for the first area they only tech you like 2 combos, one of which activates heat and immediatly wastes it, so you are using the new tekken 8 exclusive mechanics without even really knowing how to move from side to side in a 3d fighter, and asside from that combo you can only use once per round, you just have to spam buttons
@gaminglakitu
@gaminglakitu Жыл бұрын
@@matthewshaw1577 Well that's the thing, that's what most casuals are going to do. Most people just are going to try and mash buttons not knowing how to do anything, so Arcade Quest is teaching the bare essentials of what casuals want first and foremost, and then most likely rolling the rest of the mechanics and movement overtime. Like the average casual player isn't going to care about the movement, they're just going to care about the attacks and doing combos, because that's the most marketable thing about fighters

Have you played the Arcade Quest yourself? The WHOLE tutorial teaches you: - Basic controls (what is in the video) - Rage Art - Universal mechanics of Heat system - Some simple combos - How to do low attacks and throws - What is Tornado - Some basics about punishing minus moves - Only a text explanation of how to recover grey health and that some moves can catch side steps Now tell me if it's enough information for a true beginner to start playing the game. It doesn't even teach you how to break throws...
@matthewshaw1577
@matthewshaw1577 Жыл бұрын
I have played the arcade quest. Im currently on the third arcade before i stopped. It has not told me how to do a throw yet, only that i can block throws by crouching. it has NOT taught me all the basic controls as it has still not taught me how to move around, so if i diddnt know any better i would be playing it like a 2d fighter. The first combo it taught was single button spam which any player would have fighured out the second they get put in a fight, the 2nd was how to activate heat and immediatly waste it (which thats another thing, getting taught a series of moves that are actively detrimental to good play is not a good way to teach a fighting game). The third combo it taught was i believe combo trial 3 for the character i was playing which acted as the tornado tutorial which was genuinly useful, however at this point it has STILL not explained to me what all my buttons do @@uty_eh

I feel like the complaints that the tutorial didn’t teach you everything from the start is a bit unwarranted. The arcade quest gives you a tutorial and says go us it in some matches. After you successfully use those tools, the game gives you another assignment to go use. It’s a much more effective way of teaching than dumping all the info on you in a tutorial and never having you play an actual match.

There is a big difference between "not teaching everything from the start" and not explaining basic movement of all things. Noone is asking to perform just frames during the introduction but the very basic concepts should be explained early, and this is also super easy to tutorialize (do 1 sidestep, do a run, do a dash)

it's way too long-winded when i just want some basic ass information like "how do i tech a throw in this game"
@uty_eh
@uty_eh Жыл бұрын
Except the game never teaches you how to tech throws even in later tutorial sections. Or how to utilize side steps to avoid certain attacks. Or what does wall splat give you. And probably a lot of other things. Also the bots in the later stages start dashing like crazy, but the game never tells you about dash canceling. Overall, a very disappointing tutorial

Id recommend Massive Zug for Tekken tutorials. Also just immerse yourself in the content. Watch Tekken gameplay and naturally you will understand it over time. At the beginner level it can be played like a 2D game and you’ll still have fun. Sidestepping and teching grabs is more intermediate-advanced once you have more time under your belt.

Considering they had nothing to improve or anything from T7, personally I am woefully disappointed in the combo challenges for each character. They barely even scratch the surface let alone teach you any fundamentals about the character. Yoshimitsu is one of the biggest culprits of this, they don't even touch any of the other stances but Dragonfly and they pretty much only teach you 3 different combo routes with different steps between those 3 combos, but don't teach you a thing about Yoshi's other 3 or so other stances.
