Her rant about doing the bare minimum at work really hits home. As someone who was doing the work of 2 people because I was good at my job, guess what I got from it? Laid off.. (this also happened like 2.5 weeks ago, so it's still fresh). Being Brittany's age, to anyone who is younger, please listen to her lol
@melanova5
@melanova5 6 ай бұрын
Came to the comments to say something similar! I'm currently at a job where I'm doing the work of 2 people and also doing work that nobody else at my job can do, at a pay rate even cheaper than the last woman that was doing it and also doing more than she was. All the while my boss continues to give me extra assignments and projects to work on without the help or support of anyone else. While also accommodating the men who are weaponizing incompetence at a significantly higher pay than me. I keep getting the carrot of a promotion with a raise dangled in front of me, but I doubt it's gonna be what I would even want. At this point, I have to make my peace with it because I have to pay my bills I literally don't have any other options except to be homeless again, and just continue skilling up, and just hope that putting all of it on my resume will get me somewhere better Tldr; LISTEN TO BRITTANY don't work as hard as you can, do the bare minimum, and if you have support from friends or family NEVER put up with a toxic work environment, leave first and figure out the rest later

I just read the bell jar this last summer and I’ve never before felt so seen not only as a woman but as someone who struggles with their mental health. When I read the Bell Jar I was shocked how deeply related to something written that long. It made me so sad, but at the same time it made me feel less alone and isolated in my mental health struggles. I love that book deeply and Sylvia’s tragic story adds to the weight of it. Also, the stealing company time rant was a total work of art 🤌

The Bell Jar is the book that got me back into reading as an adult (and also kind of sent me spiraling into my own deep depression but worth it?) The analogy she uses of sitting in a fig tree and not being able to pick which fruit to eat first, so she simply tries none… was the most understood I’ve ever felt. Ugggh so good, go fing read it if u haven’t but be ready. ❤️

The Bell Jar is Plath’s only novel! It is fantastic though and I wish she was still around to see how many people relate to her and how she was not alone in the way she was feeling. As a side note, an English professor I had had a theory that all of her work was set in a post-apocalyptic landscape as a response to the cold war tensions of her era

loving the part about working less and setting boundaries because its SO important. ive learned this the hard way! its difficult especially if youre a people pleaser but PLEASE put yor mental health first. you dont owe your job anything other than doing what you are hired for, and they are not entitled to your free time! it gets tricky when you actually like the people you work with but there still needs to be a hard line

Sylvia Plath had a big impact me as a teenager. Her journals are also incredible for the reasons you talked about. As to reading her poetry, it is really good, but just heads up there are some of the kinds of biases of that time period present in some of her work. She wasn’t immune to the prejudices of the culture she lived in so just like be prepared to put some of her poetry in that context. Worth the read though, for sure.

Doing my due diligence by liking and commenting on every single one of these episodes of Broski Report to feed the algorithm machine. I will be copy pasting this on every episode and liking every video. Ots an honor to do the bare minimum for our queen Brittany.

Hell yeah Summerfest shout out! Fr it’s an amazing festival. Literally you buy one ticket to enter the grounds and there are like 20+ free stages all throughout with new groups playing every two hours until midnight. Each stage has a genre and theme. It also lasts for two weeks. You can also get an additional ticket to see really big artists in a huge stadium. If you’re ever in the Milwaukee area during summer check it out!

i genuinely love when you talk about books - if u want more of plath i highly recommend three martini afternoons at the ritz which is about plath and her friend anne sexton (another poet!)
