I used to own this typewriter from the late 80's into the 90's before I got my first Apple Macintosh computer with a printer, so I thought I would check eBay to see if any were for sale.Indeed there was and several suppliers of ribbons and correction tape to fit this model.
In this video I have a bit of a play with my new toy and chat about the old days when women enjoyed a slap on the bottom and gifts from the boss.

the sound of a typewriter is so pleasing. I took Typing and Office Studies at school. So so different now. Loved typing. Learned how to touch type, which comes in handy now, but when I think back to Office Studies. The equipment I learned to use is all probably in a museum now. I also learned how to correctly answer the telephone, how to take messages etc. The teacher then would be boggled to think how offices are now!

I had the same typewriter in the late 80s. I used to type my husbands invoices on it all the time. I also have 1925 manual typewriter that my dad brought home from work for me. It has a dual ribbon in black and red. Those were the days lol

i can't remember the last time I heard that sound. I used one frequently long ago and hearing it again is like hearing an old friend.

I still own my Panasonic KXW1000 I bought in 1989. The floppy drive malfunctioned several years ago. Watching this video has spawned my interest to get the drive repaired…as perhaps I shall use my typewriter for journal entries. I’ve already researched a shop to call on Monday to see if they have the wherewithal to take it on! Oh Roger…how you complete me!

I learned to type on Typewriters, had a couple Brother AX variants and Smith Corona, also had word processors too, I still have a very old Brother Deluxe manual Typewriter my late mum bought me when I was in my teens wanting to learn to type… sentimental value that one, I used to have different Daisy wheels to change the type style.

Really interesting. Regarding the roller the official term is a “platen”. As for the flaps, no idea but flap sounds good! Ha. I find it amazing the amount of support for such old tech still out there. I have a dot matrix printer of the same age, by Epson, Epson themselves still sell the ink ribbon cassettes for it! You can buy compatibles too.

I think your typewriter font is Pica. Back in the day, most typewriters were either Pica (10 letters per inch) or Elite (12 letters per inch). Pica was my favourite. I learnt to type banging away on those old manual typewriters and I’m still too heavy handed when I type on my iPad or the PC, I can’t help it! If you made a mistake, you could either try to rub it out (usually just made a hole in the paper) or use Tippex. We made extra copies of letters using carbon paper in between the sheets of paper (be sure to place it the right way round!) Carbon paper came in a slim, flat box with tissue in between the sheets - a new sheet was lovely and gave crisp copies. The carbon copies would often be on different coloured paper for filing in different places. Some ribbons had a red ink stripe and by holding down a key you could change the colour of your typing. There was always one key that stuck!

Pica and Elite are not fonts but just the spacing. As you said, Pica is 10 cpi and Elite is 12 cpi, however not the style of font. For example, Times New Roman can be either Pica or Elite. We always used Elite when learning at school 40 odd years ago.

Taught to use a manual typewriter in college. Always preferred them as i seemed to make too many mistakes on an electric typewriter.

I love your eclecticism, since these types of videos tend to be boring as hell. Please don't be afraid to be 'weird'. Most people are too scared to be themselves. Or they are just very generic. Keep being you. Loved that part about our attachment to material items and afterlife. I always think about whatever material (vinyl records) i love, i always tend to think about death and how you can;t take it with ya. Like Nas (the rapper) said ' whats it all worth cant take it with you under this erf, rich men died and tried but none of it worked, they just rob your grave' As a young kid that line always stuck with me. And my deep belief in a soul and how we are just in one plane and how ridiculous man can be in the certainty of their tiny scope /paradigm on life. Ps. A tv show tip you might looooove is : The Leftovers (HBO). Much love, salaam ou haleikoum from a dude in Amsterdam.

This video randomly popped up on my feed. I think KZbin knows I like stationery. So I went on ebay and bought a Brother AX-15 of my own - for five times the 3 pounds you got yours for! Going through the rest of your videos I see a dog. I've got an idea...

CTR centers the text, as for a title. RFM is right margin flush, it right-justifies the text, as for a heading or date in the right corner.
