One minor correction: when you are using line by line mode, you do not need to wait for the line to be printed before composing the next line. You can just keep typing and a buffer will hold your text in memory. This can really speed up typing drafts, once you get used to typing is independent of printing. Think of it as the same as computer inputting on the keyboard. And remember, daisy wheel typewriters play a very important part of typewriter history. Thanks, Joe. Makes me want to get mine out and learn to use it again. And search for some print wheels. Would love to get a script instead of spending money for a whole new Typewriter! It does put out beautiful Copy. I bought mine so I would stop spending an hour a night looking at them on the Internet. Like when I was a kid and spent an hour at night looking at the Montgomery ward or Sears catalog the month before Christmas. All best to you.

I have a brother gx-8250 electric typewriter. The spacing between each word is a double space. How do I correct it to where it is a single space between words?

If you center the paper on the platen, move the carrier (using the space bar) to where you want the left margin, then set left margin there (CODE + LMAR). Do the same for the right margin.

Hello everyone, does anyone know how to RESET the Brother AX-440 electric typewriter? It seems to write but it doesn't print anything and I've changed the ribbon etc.

Make sure the ribbon is between the print wheel and the paper when you mount the cartridge. When you type, does the ribbon rise up? It will be brief, but it should rise. Also, obviously, make sure you have a print wheel installed, with the type face toward the paper. When you type, does it make the “clack” sound? This is the solenoid striking the print wheel to make the impression. Try typing a line of text, then remove the cartridge and check the ribbon film, you should see the clear impressions where the letters were made.

Thanks for your help. I noticed that the part that should touch the print wheel when writing does not move, so if it does not touch the print wheel where the letters are, it does not print. if I tap the print wheel with my finger, I can see the print. You can call it a print head, but it doesn't move.

@@zacarias5630 The solenoid that hits the ribbon could be bad, or just gummed up. Try spraying some alcohol into the plunger, but take out the ribbon first.

Good morning friend. I've noticed that the "solenoid" doesn't move by itself, but if I touch it, it moves and marks the letter on the paper if I touch the WHEEL manually. It's possible that it's damaged or disabled by a combination of keys, which is why I asked how to do a factory RESET. I'll try cleaning it, but at the moment the "solenoid" moves manually.
